A challenge ...Your own Superhero
« on: December 01, 2003, 10:26:15 PM »
Without the aid of a roleplaying game, write a 500 word synopsis on a superhero or villian of your own design. Please make them somewhat original, and include a brief backstory...
They can have any powers you can concieve, as long as they dont directly copy any published superhero out there.

Now what exactly do you mean, without the aid of a roleplaying game? Do you mean we can't post a superhero character we've played before? Even if they were original?

Secondly, how could anyone, Saint excepted, possibly know every superhero/villian out there and therefore avoid copying them?

MoD makes a good point--if you've created an original superhero, you should be able to use that one whether or not you used it previously in a game. But what I think Jeffe means (and correct me if I'm wrong) is that he doesn't just want people to go out and use an RPG as an idea generator.

exactly... I dont want people to go out and using a copy of say.... Palladiums Superhero RPG (whose name escapes me) which has a set of random tables for powers. I dont want people to feel constraned to RPG mechanics in their characters.
Secondly, by direct copying I really mean, leave Superman out! IE... if they have a super famous mirror image, come up with something else.

So no Kark Clent, Man-Bats, or Teper Rapker's folks.

But yes if you came up with the idea all on your own... I'll accept it.

If it becomes a contest, the winner will receive a free...well, I don't know. Oooh, I've got it! We could make it an official contest and have everybody submit their really cool superhero ideas. Everybody will pick their favorite, and the winner will have his or her forum title altered to Champion of Justice for one week. Then we have SE and Mr. P convert those ideas into Mutants and Masterminds stats and post them as a "look what you can do with this system" article.

That is, if you think it's a good idea.

One week? That's not much of a prize.

Well, your real life title will be Champion of Justice for at least a year, depending on how many villains you thwart.

Ok, then here are the rules.

1. Come up with an original superhero power or combination of powers.

2. Describe that hero's origin.

3. Explain why they fight Evil

4. Answer the quest of who they are on their off day.

You can use anywhere between 500 and a thousand words. You are on your honor to not use random superpower generators (as commonly found in RPG's).

I will also stake my copy of Champions Battlegrounds as a prize for the best Hero.

I think it's a good idea, Fell.  The title won't be hard to change--and, if I ever get around to the next stage of the forum game, we should be able to give awards and prizes virtually for people to use in dueling....

Oooh.  But it would be cooler if the winner got to be Champion of X, where X is whatever the winner wants it to be.  Like Democracy, or Virility, or Flowers, or Goats.
