Wilson can probably tell you more about my current TWG handle than I can.
Most everyone's probably caught the reference to the David Eddings character Silk. Yes, that's who I'm named after (and no, I didn't actually know the character when I was first... ah...shall we say christened?).
A few other TWGers (I think it was Wilson, CthulhuKefka, and maybe GreenMonsta?) were trading snarky remarks over the then-incarnation of the Stupid Titles thread, and comments were made about my questionable morals. (Student of Deception, remember.) So, I am a Bad Person, and apparently I remind other people of Silk. Voila.
As for my actual username, which I use almost everywhere but here, Raethe was the protagonist of my very second attempt at a novel, and the very first that came anywhere near approaching the scope of an actual novel. It's one of those skeletons in the closet that I don't really like to talk about anymore, 'cuz while endless rewrites brought it respectably close to book length, they didn't make it good.
This was the Golden Idea. I came up with the character and her story - and wrote the first draft - at twelve, and did at least two complete rewrites through high school; trashed old drafts and rewrote it beginning to end. (Or perhaps not to end. I apparently didn't finish my latest draft of it, though I came close; but I don't remember if that was a complete rewrite, what number it was if so, or whether it was one of my many editing passes). I planned sequels. In fact, a friend of mine and I had plans to co-author at least two sequels, one focusing on each of our darlings' stories. We planned to switch POVs - and authors - every chapter. I think we got maybe three or four chapters in.
I was also starting to get into forum-based RP games at the time, and so the name - and often the character - started to wander online. I started using the name for pretty much everything online. Even when I go by a different handle, or in online conversations with people who know my real name, I still get addressed as Raethe most of the time. Again, except for here.
It's only been taken in a couple of instances, Skype being the only one I can remember at the moment. If you do a google search for it, you'll probably find me... but not just me. Apparently it's actually a somewhat popular boys' name in Germany... and here I thought I invented it!
I have no idea if this link is still there, but I also found a fantasy drawing of some character named Raethe, on a DevArt or something. Someone commented about how the artist had "really captured his soft soul", which some of my friends quoted at me nigh-constantly after that. It irked me, you see. Not only was I
not unique - imagine! - but my character was neither male nor particularly soft-souled.
Also, I used to spell it Reathe, not Raethe. I changed it because people kept mistakenly pronouncing it "Wreath", another thing which used to annoy me unreasonably. (It's pronounced like "wraith" if that statement makes you wonder. Which means I can't write stories about particular kinds of ghosts anymore. Habitual spelling gets in the way. Yes, I actually did write about howling Raethes once, or something along those lines. It was late.)
Well, this was ... incredibly boring. Sorry?
