New trailer today one that makes Troy look pretty good.
I particularly like the part where Achillies skewers some Trojan with a spear in mid air...

cool.

But it's going to be rated R, isn't it?

or at least, that portion of Utah that chooses to follow the counsel of the man who talks to God.

Wait, no, not too bad for them at all.

I dunno.  For me Troy is like Titanic- a story that I never particularly liked and I already know how it's going to end.

The whole thing would never have happened if some men knew how to keep their pants up, (or toga down?) and Helen wasn't a slut.

It's the same reason I hate Romeo and Juliet.  Bunch of stupid people doing stupid things gets people killed.  Heck I get enough of that in real life.  Give me a giant red demon with horns any day.

Hmm, yes.  Brad Pitt.  Hmmmmmm.
At least it's not Johnny Depp, then I'd really be conflicted.

just to clarify what I was saying:

I wasn't trying to judge anyone who goes to see it. I know enough of us here go, and I nip off for an R movie now and then (Though I usually feel guilty).  I'm the last person to be in a position to cast the first stone about slipping ideal standards.

However, is the pitying someone who chooses keeping high standards over watching something that ultimately won't be important. That kinda bugs me. it's like knowing you're doing something less noble, then reveling in it.

I don't really see the appeal of Brad Pitt OR Johnny Depp, but I am still looking forward to Troy, the best Sword & Sandal epic since Gladiator.

that bad huh?

I hated Gladiator. The cinematography was terrible, the directing worse, and the writing was flat.

It hard to say this early, but it looks to me as though Troy will just be a bad movie. It seems as though it will just be full of a lot of senselous violence with little story. In fact, there have been many attempts to tell the Illiad in the media of film and it has almost always bombed. So get ready to stop, drop and roll.

Thanks 42. Now I don't need to feel sad that I won't see it.
