Let me know what you've got coming, when.
-
Meh. You could have at least come up with a cooler name, like "Son of Call for Articles" or "the Return of Call for Articles" or even "It came from Planet Call for Articles".
-
Oh, we'll get to those
we use those after we finish with the "legitimate" names.
-
Legitimate? We're not the hurricane center here. Our threads are name alphabetically from random female names?
-
no, I just make an arbitrary decision over what's legitimate or not.
-
Someone appears to have uploaded an advertisement in Chinese to the articles section they wish to post to "Video Games".
That was fairly random, I must admit.
-
Eh not really. It's just a bot like the ones that post here in the forums. The best one was the new-age horoscope stuff we got about 2 years ago, it was like 2+ pages long. Anyway I went ahead and deleted it.
-
Fog of War is late -- let's switch it with the Ultimate Rifts 2 scheduled for tomorrow.
-
I'll do what I want
Or, if you don't like that response, you can take:
"And who's the stupid jerk responsible for that?"
-
Spriggan made me do it.
-
Dang straight I did, if I wasn't so lazy and still writing the Nerdery we wouldn't be expecting Mustard to do anything.
-
The Brothers Gibbs tell me they will have two reviews ready this Friday, on "North Country" and "Good Night, and Good Luck"
Prepare yourselves.
Skar rubs his hands together.
-
OK. The North Country review is in and waiting.
-
Sorry I wasn't around to do my proofing this week - I'm back in Montréal now, and had issues with internet for a bit. I'm back up and running now, though, so I'll get back on things.
-
Could we please post the review of "North Country" today, whether it's a double post or not?
-
already planning on it. It should be up in the next half hour or so.
-
Excellent. Thanks man.
On that note, the Brothers Gibbs have favored us with another review as well. Their Review of Good Night and Good Luck is up for admins right now. Could it please be posted tomorrow? It's in theaters so...
-
I've just received a review of the new Zorro from the Gibbs Brothers.
I'm planning on having it in the queue by tomorrow afternoon. Put it up As Soon As Convenient. ;D
-
I was thinking about writing something called "How to write a paranormal romance," basically making fun of the paranormal romance genre. That the kind of thing you guys would want? If so I'll actually write it, rather than just thinking about it.
-
Sounds interesting to me. Do it.
-
I've also written something...um...else...that I wonder if you'd be interested in. I'm not sure where to send it though, cause the submission form wants HTML and stuff and I'm not sure what to do with it. Help?
Never mind. I think I've got it covered.
Yeah, I figured it out and submitted it. It's an idea for a column. Let me know what you think.
-
e. I've got two movie reviews from the Gibbs sitting in my queue. I'm going to try to get them submitted today but can only be sure that they'll be ready by the end of the week. Sorry about the ambiguity, I'm slammed here at work.
Just so you know...
-
That would be good. Thursday, right now, has nothing, and the one we have on Friday is easily pushed to Monday, so I can rearrange things.
-
Sorry about the Fog of War. I sent it to Fell this morning, but he must not have posted it before he left the office.
-
Anyone planning on reviewing HP4?
If not, I can probably do one for Monday (since we don't post Saturday). Ari and I are going to see it in an IMAX on Friday.
-
I gave it to SE, and confirmed that he got it, so I expected it to be posted when I got back. I assume something dreadful happened to him, and he's dead.
-
The Gibbs Brothers have just promised me a review of HP4 by Thursday of this week. I think that should go in the Friday slot, e.
-
pfft. Doubters in my power. It is up.
-
There's a review of Jarhead in the queue. It would be a great Thursday piece. Yes?
-
Ok. And now there's a review of Zathura in there too.
Just to make things clear. I want Jarhead on Thursday, HP4 (to be submitted) on Friday and Zathura at your convenience after that.
-
How would you feel about Jarhead tomorrow, HP4 friday, and Zathura next wednesday or Monday?
-
totally OK. If you meant for Jarhead to go up on Wednesday.
-
that's exactly what I meant. It'll be up in the next little bit.
-
I want to submit another Book Review, but I have this perfectionism problem that says if I can't do it perfectly I shouldn't do it at all. I know it isn't a big deal--my life does not depend on whether I write a good book review or not. I'll try to get over that and get a book review done in the near future. :P
-
I'm giving you an assignment to have a book review turned in before Thanksgiving
-
Yech. A deadline.
Okay, now I have a goal. That's the positive way to view it, right? ;)
-
right. Whichever is the way that makes you do it faster. :D
-
e! I've got the Harry Potter review and it's in the queue.
-
Im working on a review of Terra Primate and a review of HackJammer though part of me thinks I need to loan you the book for that E so you can compare it w/ your old Spelljammer stuff
-
We can schedule that comparison to run right after I run my AU/UA comparison (y'know, the one that's I keep putting off ... since... oh,.... last August or so)
-
How far ahead do you want my articles? I submitted the next one last night, which was 9 days from when the last one posted...but it would be good for me to have a deadline, so I can be sure to get them written bi-weekly.
-
two days early, at least.
-
I'll try to do every other Monday, then. Monday is a good day for me to remember to submit it, and that's five days, if you plan on putting them up on fridays.
-
That's perfect then. I'll try to read it today so we can be ready for it.
-
There's an article in the movies section by the Brothers Gibbs "Twelve Days of Christmas Movies"
Use it to fill a gap in the next couple of weeks.
-
And of a rather more time-sensitive nature we have a review of "Walk the Line" by Paul Gibbs in there too.
-
excellent. I won't slack off so much on Friday then. Or I guess I could not slack off tomorrow. I don't really have a reason to do so.
-
Hey SE -- blurb my article. The game is being released today.
-
YOU DON'T OWN ME!
-
On the contrary, I won TWG from Fell in a game of MtG. As part of the deal, I own the characters of SE, EUOL and Tage. I won Spriggan outright -- not the character, but the man himself.
-
I was able to keep Entropy, but you know, what am I gonna do with him?
-
The Gibbs brothers have given me a review of Aeon Flux. I'm going to try and knock it into the queue tonight.
-
There is no SE. There is only EUOL.
-
There will always be SE in the world of magic, Joe.
-
The Aeon Flux review is in.
-
Hey, would y'all be interested in a review of Kitty and the Midnight Hour? I just finished reading it.
And I'm going to send the new Geek Girl column in a matter of minutes. I'm a day late to my self-imposed deadline. For shame.
-
You seem to be under the impression that you must get reviews cleared before you can submit them. That is because you haven't seen our vast, empty calendar, or our stream of unsolicited content (which includes a bunch of junk from people we don't even know, which we ought to post sometime just for giggles).
So in other words: any time you want to review something, we approve.
-
I mostly just want to be sure no one else is doing one, as I've never written a review before and don't want to put in the effort of figuring out how if I'm going to be pre-empted. But point taken. :)
-
You are not pre-empted.
You think you're bad with being late on a self imposed deadline? *I'm* late writing an article that was suposed to RUN two days ago.
-
I'm late writing an article that I said would be done 2 weeks ago.
-
I said I'd compare UA and AU 2 months ago, and I haven't even started it.
-
Okay, okay, so maybe I'm not *that* late.
My next column is supposed to be due the week of Christmas--are you guys going to be posting content that week? If you will I'll do a Christmas theme, but if not I won't bother. :)
Never mind, EUOL helped me flesh out an awesome idea for my Christmas themed column, so I'm going to write that one. :)
-
Well, then, just for the record, I will be posting articles that week. Y'know, as much as I do any week these days.
-
OK. I saw Narnia last night and am writing the review as we speak... I will have it in the queue tonight.
Pretty please can it be posted tomorrow without fail?
Edit: Ok. It's in the queue now.
-
Hey, guys. I'm not sure if this question goes here, but it seemed like as good a place as any short of starting a new thread.
So . . . I recently finished this paper for my publishing class, an in-depth profile of Tor. A lot of work, though it was a fun topic to write about. Turned out to be pretty good stuff, I think. 18 pgs (plus appendices.) It occured to me that it might be cool to post it so others can take a look. Do you think anyone might be interested?
-
Totally. Post it on the site as an article. I'd read it.
-
submit it. It sounds related.
-
Okay. Will do! I need to fiddle with a few things that I noticed when I was handing it in though . . .
But, anyway, I'll definitely submit it when I've done that. Thanks. :)
-
If you could, make sure it's proofread to perfection. Even if I weren't slacking off these days, I'd hate to have to run through an 18-page article hunting for typos.
-
Yep. That's one reason I needed more time. :P I hate finding errors in my own stuff! Besides, I wanted to beef up a section or two before I post it for all to see.
-
I would highly suggest either cutting the length, or posting it in installments. 18 pages is way too long to read in one web installment.
-
Good point. I actually wondered about that. I haven't seen many 18-page papers on TWG, after all. So I could certainly give a few sections at a time or something.
One other question for the powers-that-be: Can I submit it as a PDF so all my formatting doesn't get messed up?
-
Is your formatting that important?
PDF is pausible, but a little more resource intensive.
-
what sort of formatting do you HAVE? PDFs are much less practical than HTML, and there's usually not much that justifies the change.
-
the biggest PDF issue is compatability... sure you can download the most current Adobe Reader for free, but a lot of folks dont want to, or their verision of their OS wont let them or so on.
Plus it screws dialup folks out of reading the article (yes there are dialup folks in the world)
-
Whoops. Sorry, I didn't know about all the problematic aspects of PDFs. No biggie if the formatting isn't preserved, I suppose. Trouble is, I'm not an html whiz either. :-/ So I'm not sure what to do about that.
I'm guessing that if I just copy and paste the content from my Word doc into that text box on the TWG "submit" form, it won't look pretty but at least everyone will be able to read it (if they so desire). Whatever works, that's all I was trying to figure out.
-
email one of us, Me, E, Spriggan, Fell, ... a copy of the word doc and we'll format it in html to match. shouldn't be too hard. Actually, now that I think about it, doesn't Word have a "save as html" option?
-
Does it? Because if it does that would make my life easier. I'm sick of reformatting things. I'm sure I'm forgetting all sorts of tags.
-
it does, but it isnt very good at it...
-
I've got a Rich Text editor done in Java script that's attached to the submit/edit articles on the new version of TWG. Basically it means that you type it how you want it to look, like in any word processor, and then when you submit the article it'll automatically format the HTML for you.
-
Nifty!
Do I need to download a new version of TWG in order to get access to that program? Or can you give me a link to that rich text editor program? That'd be much appreciated. :)
-
Nope and Nope since the only way you (or anyone) will have access to it is when the new site is done and uploaded to this website. If I sent you the editor it wouldn't do you much good since it has to be on this web server to work.
-
Tease! *sigh*
So I guess I'll just hafta email it to you, Froskar, Fellenezer or one of the other powers-that-be this Christmas season (once I do a final edit of the thing ...)
-
e! There's a review of Syriana sitting in the queue.
I've got another one of "Rent" waiting for the editor's touch as well.
-
Skar, do you want me to review King Kong? I imagine the BRothers Gibb are going to do it, but I saw it last night and thus could have a review posted today or tomorrow, in time for the release. Let me know.
-
The Gibbs brothers have already said they were going to review it. They were going to see it last night but the prints didn’t arrive on time. I imagine we’ll get one from them pretty soon.
-
Groovy.
-
....
Is my column going to be posted sometime soon? Is it a problem that I'm still planning to do the Christmas one for next week?
-
SE is home with strep, and I only just found out today. We've missed a few days of posting becuse of it, but we'll get back on schedule today, and your Christmas article will be most appreciated.
-
I'm back at work, but have hours of catching up to do. I'm going to let Fell handle today. Did we forget your column last week? I'm sorry. I suck for that. Fell, can we run her other one some time this week as a late thing like I did with my last Page 33? We can double up since we've missed some days.
-
I'm going to post it today. Right now, in fact. And I'll post King Kong as soon as we get it.
-
Thanks guys. You're awesome.
-
Oh, you.
-
Ok. The King Kong review is up.
It's another 6 clocker Fell. I agree with them. On the strength of the review it deserves it. Sounded like you thought so too in your post on the thread.
I notice there's a review of an old 3-4 musketeers film up as well. It's good and should be used as filler whenever needed since it doesn't have time sensitivity.
So, ideally, Kong would go up today, instanter even. And Syriana would go up tomorrow.
Is that OK?
-
Had I written a review I would have gone with 5 clocks, maybe 5.5, just because the movie has some noticeable pacing problems (and a really jarring transition between Kong's capture and their sudden jump to New York). That said, I thought it was easily the best movie of the year, and a stunning accomplishment, so I will accept 6 clocks. I'll post it today.
-
Thanks man. Syriana tomorrow?
-
OK. The review of RENT is in the queue.
-
I here by request we put off posting any reviews with multiple scores until we get this whole situation settled. It's obvious we have lots of people that don't like the system, or apparently have been holding in rage against the 6 clocks for several years, that we should probably take a 2 week break from reviews until this mess gets sorted out.
-
I don't think that would be a remotely wise decision.
-
I agree with e. No one that I know is venting pent up rage.
A problem has come into the light and we have all the time in the world to solve it.
If/when we all come to an agreement about the rating system we can change the reviews that get put up during this time or apologize for the bobble in the FAQ.
Let's keep putting the reviews up.
-
Sorry my column isn't in yet, but I have to be on a plane in a couple hours. I'm still doing the holiday themed one, but it's not quite ready. I'll have it in tomorrow night, on my honor as a fish. ;D
-
You'll have to excuse MsFish. What she didn't mention was that the reason her column is delayed is because she was helping me--I'd reached crisis point and was entirely overwhelmed with packing and she swooped in like a super hero with the power to organize and saved the day!
She should get an award--and no razzing. ;D
-
geek girl goes packing
-
Exactly.
-
Friday's article is coming along really well, but we could really use something for today. Anyone got something they could bang out real quick?
-
I just sent in a review of <i>Identity Crisis</i>
Also, I've been thinking about taking up the Nerdery Writing Mantle if everyone is okay with it. I've written rough drafts for a few articles.
I was thinking they could run on the weeks that Geek Girl doesn't run.
-
Yeah, I just saw it and read it up. I'll probably run it on Wednesday, assuming I get something for Tuesday, which could possibly be Sprig's other clix article.
Monday is Page 33 day, so I don't want to do two comic days in a row.
I think alternate Fridays would be a fantastic time to run Nerderys. And I think you'd do a good job with it. So, consider yourself having editorial support on that idea.
-
Fell, why did we run 2 articles friday when we don't have enough to finish out this week?
Page 33 coming later today.
-
I bet Skar threatened him with bodily harm if the Gibbs' best of list didn't go up before the end of the year.
-
I would have if I'd seen the article before it was posted. Not sure what happened there. Either everyone lost my email address simultaneously or there's been a silent coup in the movie department.
-
The Gibbs sent me everything with a note saying that they'd already sent you everything and hadn't heard back; I suppose they assumed that you were out of town or otherwise unreachable. They sent me two movie reviews as well, but I'll let those go through you as normal.
-
If someone could come up with a superhero/comic related article for thursday, that would rock. Then we could make it a theme week.
-
Did anyone bother to write a review of Marvel 1602?
-
I don't think so.
-
Ok. Gibbs' review of Munich is in the queue. I found myself unable to wrap my head around the double scoring system so I just put their 4/4 star score at the bottom of the review.
What did we decide to do about all that?
-
I think *we* all had an opinion, but Fell hadn't finalized anything. All of you join with me in poking him so he makes a call on it
-
Poke -> Fell
-
I don't remember a consensus. Or maybe I just choose to forget a consensus I didn't like.
-
The concensus was that we should go with my plan. ;D
Which was make the standard scale out of 5, with the ability to tack on an extra, sixth, clock should a truly super-duper, work come along.
So, 5 out of 5, but if you check the right box on the submission form you get a 6th clock.
Frankly, it could still be 6 out of 6 with just the ability to add a 7th clock for those works that would be given a 6th clock by the current guidelines added on.
-
Actually the consensus was that you buy us all Tacos to keep quiet.
-
Yes. I distinctly remember free tacos as part of the package.
-
Memoirs of a Geisha review is in the queue.
-
And, Brokeback Mountain is now in there too. Memoirs should post before Brokeback.
-
I submitted the first of the new nerderies. Considering I wrote it weeks ago, I'm surprised it took me this long to submit it.
-
ok, looking it over. It should go up today.
-
" A New Year at the Movies" a column by the Gibbs Brothers looking at some of the interesting films slated to come out this year is in the queue.
-
Geek Girl is finally in--I'm abismally late again.
-
actually, you're in plenty of time.
Though since you are so often early, I was beginning to wonder
-
Yeah, I know. I'll try to be early again next time. ;D
-
There's a review of "The New World" in the queue. Sorry about the short notice but if it could go up tomorrow, that would be great.
-
Nerdery is in, sorry it's so late coming.
-
k, reading then posting.
-
Also, I might have something for the 14th. Something like my halloween article.
-
haloween on Valentine's. Nice (Ok, I know that might not be what you meant, but I like the thought).
-
I notice the schedule is blank for today. I just put a review from the Gibbs brothers in the queue.
-
Skar isn't subtle when it comes to hints. Even I can figure them out.
/me hops to it.
-
Geek girl will be up shortly. I know it's abismally late. I've been having a really hard time writing this one for some reason. But I haven't forgotten.
-
It's up. It's not the best thing I've ever written for sure, but it's in now.
Hopefully the next one will be better. I have a good story to use for it.
-
So is there going to be no article today?
-
Hmm. That's probably my fault for not getting my column up until this morning. Also, it's not all that great. Maybe it should be scrapped.
Or maybe no one should listen to me when I'm in a writing-loathing mood like I am today. Yes, that's probably it.
-
I was more trying to be passive agressive to get Fell to post it since SE forgot.
-
This is what happens when I don't check the main page.
-
So, um, how about if we just let that sorry excuse for a column that I submitted fade into forgotteness. What do you say?
*Fish looks hopeful
-
all I can say is that I spent most of last week retarded. I will post your column today, along with.... whatever the heck else is *supposed* to run today.
-
...
Just last week?
-
Zing!
-
oh, like any of you have any business calling me on that.
-
why are you beating up on Fell? :P
-
because he deserves it.
-
So much for it fading into forgottenness. :-/
-
oh, er.. Apparently JEffe has some foundation for calling me retarded still. Because I totally misread your previous post. lo siento. mea culpa.
-
Tizn't that bad fishy
-
Tizn't that *good* either.
That's okay, SE. It's probably better that it be posted anyway. I did write it. And I did submit it.
-
I liked it. It won't win awards, but not every column has to.
-
Thanks, Fell.
-
So I submitted another review...
I would like this picture to run with it.
-
I have a request.
When Geek Girl gets posted on the front page, could we run it with the full title: A Geek Girl's Survival Guide #__?
Would that be all right? I think it explains better what it is, and looks nicer than just Geek Girl.
-
sure. I'm just lazy.
-
Gaming chef sent...
any chance getting the Spider-Man Image linked to the Lacuna review?
-
There's a good chance. I just need to remember
-
So now is a good time to remind you.
-
No but it's a good time to remind me. Pic is up.
-
thanks, I think it sets the mood better.
-
So I submitted a nerdery yesterday to be posted today. But since it wasn't posted, could you just hold off on it?
I'll have a different one for valentines.
-
sorry, i spent the last two weeks retarded. Yeah, should we do a special edition of it tomorrow, then?
-
sorry, i spent the last two weeks retarded.
[insert generic reply about SE's retardedness here]
-
Difficult jokes to make, aren't they Sprig.
-
getting zinged by a retard... priceless. ;)
-
Difficult jokes to make, aren't they Sprig.
No, it's just that there were so many to choose from I couldn't make up my mind.
-
Review of "Firewall" is in the queue.
I should have a review of "Eight Below" up by Friday.
-
V-Day Nerdery is in.
-
Yay. Some good stuff this week. I've been looking forward to 42's V-day column. Plus, I've been very curious about Ford's new movie.
-
Geek Girl is in, but I messed up the title.
The title should read: The Geek Girl's Survival Guide #8
And the subtitle should read: A Geek Girl's Guide to Being the Damsel in Distress
Sorry! ;D
-
And I've just reread the column and it needs the following corrections. (Since it's so late I don't know if it'll get proofread.
"Still, I’m often taken BY surprise by chivalry."
"And what’s more, I have a group of protectors"
And then the sentence that starts
"Honestly, how sincere can you be about an apology"
doesn't actually end--whoops. It should read "for something that you persist in doing--with no further signs of remorse."
Sorry! I was kind of in a hurry.
-
Posted and edited.
just an FYI, on the message board we use square brackets []
but in HTML we use angle brackets <> for the tags.
-
Winter Assault review up. I can give you screenshots if you want. Also, the screenshots from the DoW review have gone down, probably due to SE changing hosts.
-
Immortal Cities: Children of the Nile review up. This one definitely needs screenshots, i'll pass some onto SE on IM.
-
Arr... i made a mistake in the WA review. Please change the line
The second is the Priest, who is a melee monster and can cause his squad to do much more damage for a short period of time.
to say 'The second is the Priest, who is a melee monster and can cause his squad to be invincible for a short period of time.'
-
Darwinia review up. Hooray 3 in a day, time to hibernate.
I've got a .zip file with screenshots and box art (the box art being for the blurb on the frontpage, like we do for films) for all 3 reviews sitting around. Ask and ye shall recieve.
-
send them to either me or SE and we'll get them added.
-
Posted and edited.
just an FYI, on the message board we use square brackets []
but in HTML we use angle brackets <> for the tags.
I'm sure I knew that. I think I usually do it the right way, but I've been sleep deprived lately.
And just FYI, that link that goes to the HTML tags on the submission page is no more, which makes me very sad, because I was using it to get the tags to do my articles. Can we fix that?
Also, do you want to give me the formatting for whatever you did to my links at the bottom of the article, so I can submit them that way in the future? I like what you did with them. (At least, I think the formatting was changed...I didn't do the HTML on those myself.)
Oh, and I wrote a review of Inkheart and submitted it. I've never done a review before, so let me know what y'all think of it.
-
Entropy, rock on. Thanks for the input
MsFish, going by memory because I'm too big a lazy sack of crap to look up what I did, I think I just used an unordered list:
<ul>
<li />First Item
<li />another item
<li />as many items as you want
</ul>
-
Just FYI, list tags aren't self terminating so <li/> is a no-no, and after looking at the article (I'm afraid I haven't read anything on TWG for almost a month) we should probably limit the number of articles listed at the end to 5.
I'm also going to be very grumpy when we move over to the new site since someone is going to have to go remove all the in article fixes we're doing, and that someone always ends up being me.
-
Why are we limiting it to five? That sucks. I've had a lot of complaints from people about not being able to find my articles, and there's really no other way for me to fix that.
-
Because in a few months your articles will be more links then actual content so we need to set a limit.
-
Um, no offense, but is that really your decision?
-
Actually yes it is, thanks for asking, I make design and layout descisions. Unless Fell says otherwise it's 5.
-
Well, do you have another suggestion to solve my problem then?
-
In fact I do, when I get Tage to upload the new staff page I'm going to have him upload a new sort page that will work cross deparment. Then we can generate a unique link that will display all your articles.
-
You could have said so to begin with.
-
everyone calm down. No one wants to be mean to anyone else.
New subject. The Holy Roman Empire was neither holy, nor Roman, nor an empire. Discuss.
-
I didn't think about doing it until after I made the original post. Sorry for the confusion.
-
No one wants to be mean to anyone else.
Sure.
-
I want to be mean, but I'm not allowed to. I can be mena to Mustard, though: Hey Mustard! You suck!
-
Review of "Eight Below" is up.
-
and yet no one has posted a new article.
-
that's because you suck.
-
Let me repeat something that I said to Ent privately already.
THe pictures are much more likely to get into a review if you email them to ME. The guy who actually reads the submissions and decides when/if they will be published. Skar is the only other person who does anything like that, and he only does it for movies. If you have pictures for any other category, send them to *me*. My email is in my profile and publically viewable, so there is no excuse for not knowing how to get them to me.
Maybe I'm just a little flustered at the work I have to do (here and at my payign job) after one sick day, but really, I'm kind of tired of hearing about pictures not showing up in reviews when I've barely seen any of the pictures in the first place.
That is all.
edit: except this: Editing your pictures so they take up less space than half a meg means I have less work to do to get them up as well. Thus, things go faster.
-
Nobodys blaming you, after all, its all Mustards fault, or Tage's.
-
Hey Eric--if I came up with a logo for Geek Girl would you maybe post it with the articles, the way reviews get pictures?
I've got next week's written, so I should have it up soon. I just have to fiddle with the html.
-
If the logo looked good then probably, it would depend on the size and where you wanted to place it, also any designs would have to be approved by 42 though. The big question is where to put it, I would think something small that could go in the blurb like movie posters would be best.
Some suggestions, keep it simple and stick to a color scheme that matches what the site uses now. You can always PM or e-mail me when you get it done for suggestions too.
-
I was just thinking something little just like the movie images that get posted next to the blurbs. That's a good suggestion about the color scheme--I think CtrlZed might help me. I'll fool around with it and see.
-
Sounds good, let us know when you get something done.
-
What he said.
Also, Sprig, Love the Avatar.
-
That is an awesome avatar :P
-
Um, is my column going up today?
-
Fell's on it.
-
Okay. Just checking.
-
just fyi, folks, <p /> is a much cooler tag than using <br> twice. All the hip kids are doing it that way.
-
Yeah, yeah...it's what I get for free train HTMLing. I'll fix it next article. :)
-
just fyi, folks, <p /> is a much cooler tag than using <br> twice. All the hip kids are doing it that way.
Sigh... must we?
On another note: The Gibbs Brothers have turned in an Oscar Column. It's in the queue.
And I will have a review of Ultraviolet done by tonight.
Edit: Voila! The Ultraviolet Review is up too.
-
which would you rather have up right away?
-
Oscars first, Ultraviolet second.
-
Nerdery 34 has been submitted.
-
Is there a reason the Ultraviolet review is not up?
-
Mostly that Fell is a poo-head. Wednesday night he told me he'd take care of it since I was going to be too distracted yesterday (and I was, after about 11:30 I didn't look at the Internet at all
I was going to hold it for next week since it was already late morning today before I saw it wasn't up,a nd we're low on content right now, but if you think we need it up, I suppose we could double-post on a day after we missed a day
-
Nah. Use it to fill the gaps next week.
-
So I have a new review of Traveller The Classic books, but its 4 pages long so It'd be a heck of a scroller. Any ideas how It could be run.
Fortunately its go 9 different sections (one for each of the 9 books).
-
I'm happy with scrolling, but if you can break it into three convenient sections, go for it.
-
sections please. Google likes to lower your page ranking if you have really long page.
-
Ok Ent and I talked about this last night, I plan to get some input from Saint and Revise. I think it'll still be a pretty detailed review and pretty long but Im sure I can split it up naturally.
-
There's a review of "V for Vendetta" up. This Opens on Friday so it can't go up until then but it should really go up on that exact day.
-
Did you like it? Im really looking forward to it.
-
I haven't seen it yet. The Gibbs brothers gave it 4 out of 4 stars though. I will be seeing it on Friday, and am heartened. I was kind of gunshy after Ultraviolet, but now I'm starting to look forward to it.
-
yay.
-
Geek Girl's in, and hopefully the HTML isn't too screwed up. It's hard to tell, since I don't know how to open it as a web page and check it.
And Sprig--did you ever get me that links page so that I don't have to put the links at the bottom anymore? *poke* ;D
-
Need input.....
seriously, we're short on material right now
*and* HoM officially stopped doing Fog of War
so....
we need more articles. Geek Girl and Nerdery are both going really good, with great content and interesting writing. But we need more stuff. Keep it coming folks!"
-
I could do that review of Kitty and the Midnight Hour I've been meaning to do for a month...
Give me a deadline and I'll actually get it done. Otherwise it'll probably just sit here and fester.
-
Then, I give you a deadline of tonight, because I've been eyeing that book and trying to decide if it was worth the read! :)
I just tossed in a humor article for editorial perusing. Rewrite of an article I wrote about five years ago, updated and much tighter. Just for kicks and giggles.
-
Here's the reader's digest version then:
It's one of my favorite books I've read in a long time. Freaking awesome.
The review would, of course, actually tell you why.
-
Your deadline is tonight. I still need something for tomorrow. I think.
-
You could review that book I mailed you SE, you know the one that you were going to reveiw.
-
There's a review of Twilight Imperium in. I submitted it for a guy I know (actually my cousin's friend's husband). He buys a lot of Fantasy Flight games, so hopefully we can convince him to submit more reviews of them.
-
Okay, I'll write it today then. ;D
Argh. Why do I always think everything I write sound stupid?
-
Because you're a writer. We all do it.
-
Well good then. At least I'm not alone.
Review's in. Hopefully it's coherent. I'm not quite sure that it is.
Fell, check your PMs.
-
FYI, Kitty was written by Carrie Vaughn, not Carrie Vaug. Must have gotten cut off.
-
corrected!
-
There's a review of "Inside Man" in the queue.
-
nerdery is in
-
So, Twilight Imperium never got posted. Supwidat?
-
SE is a lazy bumb that's why.
We usually double post on Fridays when we missed an article in the week so you can post it if you want or bug Fell to do it, which is more fun since that would involve poking him with a stick.
-
SE is a lazy bumb that's why.
I mean, honestly. It's like you're not paying attention at all. How could not have realized I'm a fat lazy bum yet?
-
Well fine, I'll post it then. That'll learn ya.
-
Ya, learn him that if he doesn't do it Tage will.
Actually I think that's TWG's staff motto.
-
*chortle*
I was posting it at the same time as Tage. We had two copies of it for a short bit there.
-
d20 Modern "Future Tech" review is in.
-
I have read, seen no need to edit, and heartily approved the New Dr. Who Review. Post at will.
Incidentally, there was a review of a Three Musketeers movie in the queue for a while. Did it ever get posted? If not, where did it go?
-
I don't seem to recall that review.
-
I think it was by HoM...
-
Janci, we didn't get your Geek Girl for today and we missed it.
I'll run it tuesday as a swap with Jeffe's new column if you get it in.
-
I am soooooooo sorry.
Thanks for swapping it for me. It's been a psycho week and I think I've temporarily lost my sanity.
I'll get it in this weekend.
-
Yeah, so...Geek Girl's not happening this week. You guys can fire me if you want.
-
No. We always flog before we fire.
-
And pillage before burning.
-
no, we often burn before pillaging.
-
But then there'd be nothing to pillage--unless you have a thing for collecting ashes or you want to hold a barbeque. Personally, I prefer my ill-gotten goods to be unburnt, except in rare cases (haha, rare, get it?). Wow, I am SO bored right now...
-
bingo on the BBQ... after all what good are Sheep and cattle if they arent cooked.
-
This reminds me of a tag I saw....
"Screw this! Rape the houses and burn the women!"
-
Despite it being horribly twisted and sordid I still find humor in it.
-
There's a movie review, CSA:The Confederate States of America, in the queue.
-
So what's with the no new content yesterday and today with 8 articles sitting in the queue?
-
6 of them are spam, 1 is incomplete, and as for the last... I'm a lazy jerk.
-
Well. That makes sense then. Spam? Spammers should be shot. Buggers.
-
Just FYI--Geek Girl is written, I just need to put the finishing touches on it and do the html, so it won't be up until tomorrow eveningish. Sorry!
-
that's fine.
Incidentally, there has been very little to post, which is why very little has been posted.
In addition, I will be celebrating Good Friday tomorrow by playing games and wandering around. Thus I will not be online much, I think. Fell, post Geek Girl tomorrow for me.
-
Behind the counter 2 is done and submitted
-
I've got a review in for Guillotine as well. Hardly a new game, but fun and didn't see it in the list of what we've already reviewed. :)
-
Nerdery is in.
-
There's a review of "The Sentinel" in the queue.
-
Geek Girl's in, though it probably needs some heavy editing, as I haven't read it since I wrote it. Which was about 30 seconds ago. Whoops.
-
I'll do that tomorrow.
-
Ok. The Gibbs Brothers have beaten me to giving United 93 a 6 clock review. It's in the queue. I think it should go up today even if there's something else too.
-
e's not around (I'm pretty sure they had their baby over the weekend) so I will post this. It will be later this afternoon, when I get more time.
-
Dude.
Poke.
-
The review of "Stick It" in movies is waiting and ready to be posted.
Also, there's a review of "Carrie" from a new guy in the queue.
Also, there's a review of M:I III in MY queue that will be ready for posting on Friday.
-
I thought we'd see a Behind the Counter by now *glares at JEffe*
I will probably run an RPG today and one of hte movies tomorrow. Which do you think you'd rather have first? We'll have a Nerdery on Friday, and I'd rather not double up. Can you have MI3 ready for tomorrow possibly?
-
MI3 doesn't open until Friday so it should go up on that day and not before. However, Stick It would work well tomorrow. It released recently. Carrie can be used whenever you want to fill a gap.
-
Wow. What difference does a Day make? We'll just run it late Thursday so those planning on going to a midnight showing of MI 3 can have a review to read.
-
Why can't it go up the day before? is that part of the agreement? Lots of places run reviews the day before release
-
Meh. The marketing firm that sends me screening invites asks me not to run the review before the day the film opens but this one didn't come from them.
Run MI3 tomorrow (I'll have it ready today/tonight). Run "Stick It" on Friday. I know it doubles up with The Nerdery but it's in the theaters and the sooner we get it up the better.
-
I like that plan. So many of our reviews are late, it's nice to have an early one now and then.
-
Skar, I've been thinking about it, and I'd really rather not run a movie review tomorrow if the Nerdery gets submitted.
My reasons are thus: We're running films today, and running another tomorrow will be a bit repetitive. In addition, we've had a real drought of articles lately. for two weeks we ran only 3 articles a week. While we're doing better (if we go with my plan, 4 this week, having missed monday, and we'll actually have just enough to fill out next week), I'm not confident that the drought won't return the third week of May.
What I'd like to do is run M-I:3 today, Nerdery tomorrow, Stick it on Monday, and push back Page 33 to next Tuesday. Then Carrie Wednesday, a new game on Thursday, and Geek Girl on Friday next week.
-
No prob. Go with your plan. The MI3 review is up as an admins only review, ready for your tender administrations and blurbage.
-
BTC 3 is in. It also probably needs heavy editing. Still recovering from the night shift.
-
There's a review of "The Promise" in Movies ready to go, viewable by admins only, as requested.
-
should I move it ahead of Carrie in the queue?
-
Yes. Sorry, should have said that.
-
Geek Girl's in and it's...well...different.
-
I'll look it over in a few minutes then.
-
Why do you keep changing my titles? It's aggravating.
-
Not sure if this is the issue fish, but there is a character limit on the titles. Sometimes the editors have to change them so everything fits.
-
Spriggo is indeed correct. When I got it, the title of the article was only "The Geek Girl's Survival Guide #13" which you had mentioned before that you didn't want as the format. I added "Story Telling" so that there would be some indication about the article in the title.
-
The title I was referring to was the one that was the subtitle when I submitted it.
For example, a month ago when I did the one on "dating," it actually had a different title. I intended to do another one that was actually titled "Dating," but now I won't because that title got used.
I should probably just get over it.
-
Probably
THe subtitle also has a character limit. They get cut off a lot.
-
I've got a review of War Drums sitting in the Table Top section, still need to add in links and maybe rework a paragraph or two but I'll have that done by Monday.
-
So... there's a review of "Poseidon" sitting in the movie section, ready to go up at your convenience. Tomorrow might be good. Yes?
-
Skar you DO realise that Fridays are always taken by non-review articles. Its kind of irratating to people when you try to get the movie reviews to replace allready scheduled articles.
-
Interesting. That's fine for this one since it's not a brand-new release (it's a week old). But you DO realize that when we get a press-screening, FRIDAY is the day it needs to post on whether there's a non-review article up or not.
Anyone who's irritated by my trying to "replace" the articles on Friday has obviously never read the HUNDREDS of posts I've made advocating the occasional double post on Fridays. There is no drive to "replace" Friday's article. I was just suggesting that since a review of "Poseidon" is fairly time-sensitive perhaps it could go up on Friday, which is exactly what I said.
Your irritation is self-inflicted by some sort of scratchy delusion.
-
Nerdery is in. Feel free to proofread, edit, or rewrite entirely.
-
To whom it may concern:
There are several spam reviews in the article queue. However, I know who BobJohn is. His review of Rubik's tic-tac-toe is not spam. I leave it up to the game editors to accept/reject/or work with him on the article. I just wanted to make sure it didn't get deleted with all the spam.
-
gracias
-
Ok. There's a review of "The Da Vinci Code" ready and waiting in the movies section.
-

I was looking at that and I'm not sure why but the name on his e-mail address looks very familiar, anyway I'll e-mail him about it I hate to post anything that's only one paragraph long.
-
There's a review of "X-Men: Last Stand" in Movies. No objection to posting it today if you want.
-
Um, so I suck. Do we have an open day this week?
-
umm, lets see. Thursday is open and either Tuesday or Wednesday would be open if Jeffe's article isn't submitted.
-
I'll have last friday's Geek Girl in by Wednesday to go up Thursday, if that's all right with Fell.
-
That is groovilicious.
-
Power of Faerun is in the RPG section, and while I'll save my review for the...err...review I'll just say I know now what I want to play in my next D&D campaign.
-
There is a review of Mutants and Masterminds 2e in. Use when ready.
-
Down with movie reviews! It's time to stand up and actually have a month where at least one article isn't movie related!.
-
I'm thinking of maybe doing book reviews for you guys.
If I did, would you prefer books that have recently been released, or can I do reviews on any books? Even those that have been out a while?
Of course, most of the books I review would be from the speculative fiction genre.
-
Do what ever you want, just check to see if we allready have a review of the book. If we do, ask SE or Fell if you can do a second.
-
just check to see if we allready have a review of the book.
I don't suspect there will be any overlap, especially considering how there's only about half a dozen book reviews posted.
-
uhm... even if you don't count comic books or audio books, there are over 5 dozen book reviews in the archives.
-
Hm. Couldn't find them. Can you point me in the right direction?
Edit: Sheesh. I found them. Sorry, your navigation wasn't clear enough to me, I guess.
-
if you go to the book section (or any section) there's a link at the top-right for "articles" and one for "reviews"
-
"A Geek Girl's Guide to Character Conflict" is in.
So sorry it's late (again). I shall earnestly strive to do better.
-
Nerdery is in...somewhere.
-
So, um, I was going to do a different one for next Friday, but since the last one didn't go up yesterday, is that still possible? It might be weird to do two in one week.
-
I was a bit lazy last week. It was a hard week for me on other fronts.
Normally I'd say let's just do them on Friday. However, since we've been shy on articles, and *if* I remember to write my column we're still not going to have enough to fill this week yet, I say go ahead and write another, and we'll just do two of yours this week.
-
Okay. Will do.
-
So I was wondering if anyone was reviewing The Omen?
-
That would be Skar's department, but I have a feeling they already would have if they were dead set on doing it themselves.
I'd say write something up and Skar will contact you about it if needs be.
-
ok will do
-

I'd say write something up and Skar will contact you about it if needs be.
Correct. We stand ready to accept your submission. :D
-
ok now, next question... how would I submit it...
-
ok, before I have an anyeurism I'm going to bring this up.
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1932442529/theofficitime-20
^-- proper format for an amazon link.
I never want to see anything like this one again (which is what a lot of you have been doing lately:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&tag=theofficitime-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&path=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fproduct%2F1588466000%2Fqid%3D1149189580%2Fsr%3D2-1%2Fref%3Dpd_bbs_b_2_1%3Fs%3Dbooks%26v%3Dglance%26n%3D283155
Note that in the first, nice one, there is only one thing you *ever* need to change. The 10 digit code. Soemtimes this code will have letters in it. Don't let it throw you off. This code is listed in every product description on Amazon as an ASIN number. If you can't find it in the text, however (thought it *will* be there, I promise) you can find it in the url. The beginning of every normal URL on amazon you find by browsing will look like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1932442529
The end part is the 10 digit code. there will be a million characters of other stuff after that, but none of it is relevant and it just makes my eyes swim when trying to edit an article. Sometimes the URL won't be easy to read like that, however, like in the second url above (the ASIN for that link is 1588466000, incidentally, which is in the url, just not in an easy to find place.
Fell or Tage, this would be *really* nice information to have on the "submit an article" page. It may sound picky, but this is something that would *really* help me look over articles faster.
-
caiticlu, either click this link: http://www.timewastersguide.com/edit.php?page=articles
or go to the main page and click on the "submit an article" link on the left side under the departments, the long code is the stuff Amazon generates for you.
-
ahhh 4th wall! You broke the 4th wall!
That was me SE, I was just being lazy and using the build a link function in the associate site.
-
well, stop it. It drives me nuts.
-
Caiticlu, I uh... accidentally deleted your review. Do you mind resubmitting? I was deleting a bunch of spam articles and got carried away, sorry.
-
There's a review of "Cars" sitting in Movies just waiting to be blurbed. Anxiously it waits, chewing its little fingernails.
-
Cars will probably run today then.
-
So I don't think I'm going to get a Nerdery in today. Would it be okay if I submitted one to be run at the first half of next week?
-
like with geek girl, normally I'd like to hold it off till your next scheduled time. But, since we're currently in an article drought, I'll run it as soon as I have it.
Incidentally, there *will* be a Page 33 next week. and there *should* be one two and four weeks after that... if I can remember to bring the material I've got to transcribe.
-
I just submitted a book review. For posting whenever you feel like it.
-
I should be able to get that Tor article ready to email to you tonight. Just have to do some of that html stuff and clean up the appendices a little.
Oh, and remember you can post it in pieces... whatever works, since it is long.
