One slight technical error: it says "Camerlengo Patrick (Ewan McKenna)", and it needs to be "Camerlengo Patrick McKenna (Ewan McGregor)".

As for the review itself, I'm actually looking forward to this film now. I wasn't quite sure what to think about it before.

Nice review. I think it's a bit silly that they're playing this as a sequel to Da Vinci. It's not as though people are incapable of grasping the concept of a prequel (although, technically, Angels and Demons was written first).

Quote
[The Screenwriters] seem to be hell-bent (no pun intended) on improving from their previous misfire [the Da Vinci Code]

That's one way to look at it, though I would as soon attribute it to the source materials. The authors, having not read the books, have no way of knowing, but Angels and Demons was a far better book than the Da Vinci Code. I didn't mach care for the latter, but I loved the former. Given this disparity, it would be shocking if Angels and Demons were not a better movie than The Da Vinci Code.

I definitely liked the book of Angels and Demons better. I mean, there's an anti-matter bomb! That's just plain cool.

I've read that the plot to Angels & Demons is frighteningly similar to the plot to Da Vinci Code.

Had I reviewed the Da Vinci Code film, I would have probably given it 1-1½ stars.  I'm so skeptical of "Angels & Demons" that I'm even afraid to rent it for fear of wasting 2 hours.  Glad to hear it's better, but I'll need a few more second opinions before giving it a chance...

Yes - but only in that ALL of Dan Brown's plots are strikingly similar. A&D is better done, though, and without all the Templar myth baggage.

(Ok, in fairness, I haven't read everything he's written, but I think three books is a decent sample size.)

Deception Point. (http://www.amazon.com/Deception-Point-Dan-Brown/dp/0743497465/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242148558&sr=8-3)

I have read four of his books.  Digital Fortress and Deception Point have absolutely nothing to do with religion, though they are suspense thrillers.  Deception Point actually attacks science, to a degree.  I also liked Angels and Demons better than the Da Vinci code, but I thought both books were good.  The Da Vince Code movie, however, was not good at all.  I didn't even watch the whole thing, to be honest.  I'm glad they did a better job with A&D (ambigrams are awesome, by the way).

It should be obvious from my avatar that I agree. ;D

I must say, I quite enjoyed the film. Very well made. I'd recommend it for sure.

My first non-intro post! I was going to post in the religion thread but I haven't read through all of the pages yet. I saw this movie the other day (along with UP in 3D which was so good! As well as Night at the Museum 2 which was funny but not brilliant) and I really enjoyed it. Much more than the Da Vinci Code certainly. I hadn't read the book yet so the twists were surprises to me. In fact I got the "bad guys" all wrong! Usually I'm better at it but I was off my game. Anyways I would give it 3 stars probably, I'm generally easy to please.
