The curse is broken
« on: October 28, 2004, 12:43:41 AM »
Red Sox just won the World Series. Not that I really am a fan, but it's been fun to live in the World Series winner's city.

Live pictures at Kenmore Square include cops in riot gear. Baseball fans in Boston are a little crazy. A girl died last week after falling from the Green Monster. After she climbed the Green Monster.

It's momentous. I only saw bits of the game, though. LOST was on. >_>

Plus it was pretty anticlimactic. 4-game sweep? Now, what would have made a really memorable series would have been winning the first 3 and then losing the rest.  ;D

ha, that would have been one for the books, for certain, ookla. I like the way you think. So, who do you think will be president in 90 years when the Red Sox win again?

Let's not forget the girl that died from being shot by a "pepper spray pellet" by the BPD.

While that is unfortunate, that's kind of the risk you take when you participate in mobs and riots.

And since human beings are not yet civilized enough to participate in or watch professional sports without forming mobs and riots, I eschew sports.

I think part of the problem is just the sheer number of people on the street. You can't get out if you want to. But climbing the Green Monster--especially while drunk--is an idiotic thing to do. Not that I'm saying she deserved to die, at all. It's just sad that people do stuff like that.

Right, because mobs and riots break out, like, all the time.

By that same logic, you would also eschew politics, or civil rights issues, or court cases, or many many other things.

It sounds like you eschew sports anyway, and use this to justify your eschewing.

it's one of many reasons, I think.

That's what British soccer fans are FAMOUS for, HoM, mobbing.

I don't know about this eschewing mobs thing.  A little mob violence can be a lot of fun.

I'm not denying that mobs and riots happen.  Fuzzy just made the statement that humans can't participate in sports without mobbing and rioting, which is obviously false.

I've attended sporting events my entire life -- hundreds of games -- and I've only witnessed mob violence at one.

On the contrary, I've been at far less political rallies, and seen violence (albeit mild) at several.

I saw mob violence at a parade once.  Should we eschew those as well?

yes. In fact, all social contact should be eschewed. Online contact is questionable. That's why I'm going to live in a hermetically sealed container as soon as I have the funds to do so.

Pardon me, but.... DUH.  Of course it's false.

Saint, I've never met House of Mustard in person yet. Does he not understand the comedy that exists in hyperbole and sarcasm?  Because he seems to respond very seriously to very frivolous posts.

he, like I, likes to argue. Putting HoM, EUOL, and I into a single room and saying the phrase "I think that..." completed with almost any vaguely defensible proposition would probably produce enough energy to power Seattle for a month or two.
