Found this (http://www.itvt.com/story/6310/3d-tv-round) link and thought you guys would want to talk about it.
I was watching 'The Feed' on 'Attack of the Show' and they made an announcement about it being a big thing at CES this year, so I tried to find some information about it, I also knew that we had brought it up in the Avatar (http://www.timewastersguide.com/forum/index.php?topic=7306.0) thread.

the HD/digital switch just happened, people STILL havent upgraded their disks to bluray, if they ever do.
now, as a consumer, you will look at this and do 1 of two things
Ignore it
Ignore BluRay/HD as most people have not upgraded their disks and players yet. and many have not done HD yet either. (I did, a few years back, and I JUST bought a brand new 60" HD TV)
-
I'm excited for it, I'm always excited for new technology. Blu-Rays are wonderful, but I can't wait for 3DTVs.
-
I don't know, I don't particularly think 3D is a necessary enhancement. With HD there is at least a clear upgrade in quality. I'm not sure there will be anything particularly essential about a 3D TV. It's a gimmick.

3D TV? It's a trick! Don't fall for it! They're just trying to give the sharks an easy way to your children!
But yeah, i honestly wouldn't really care for a 3D TV, since the cost will be too much for so little gain. Maybe in the future when the technology is cheaper.

I've always thought that 3D has been a gimmick. Sure, it can be a good gimmick which adds to the experience, as Avatar shows, but it's not enough, in my opinion.

Oh, it very much so is a gimmick. its basically a "that's kinda cool" effect to something, nothing must-have or that you could live without.
-
Exactly. HDTVs are clearly superior in quality to Standard Definition. I don't think anyone can argue that they aren't (you could argue that it's unnecessary, but I wouldn't be one to make THAT claim. I like HD ;) ). 3D is not necessarily superior in the slightest.

I have those feelings for blue ray b/c i'm a cheapo!
-
/me wants 3d.
-
That's because you ain't a cheapo! Is it just me or are americans a little too free with their money....
-
I'm free with money once my bills are paid.
-
I wasn't referring to you.... but our culture is based on pointless expendatures for convience and entertainment and it interferes with long term goals i.e. retirement
-
Very true. I got into an argument with my grandfather the other day about how people should have money for retirement/insurance and everything else they need once they stop working, and that it's their responsibility to save this money. He started yelling at me and telling me that we shouldn't have to do those things and it should just be taken care of for us by the government.
I was like *headdesk headdesk headdesk*.
-
He has an entitlement issue as bad as our generation....wow!
-
Yeah, I had to leave the room, I couldn't even talk to him or it would have gotten ugly.

This IGN article pretty much sums up my thoughts on 3D TVs, at least in the realm of gaming. A lot of the comments seem to be pro-3D however.

I do like how they compare 3D to, say, crappy, pointless Wii "waggle" controls.
