Title: Even more original Star Wars
Post by: The Holy Saint, Grand High Poobah, Master of Monkeys, Ehlers on May 16, 2006, 11:15:01 AM
a few of you have probably seen this clip, but most have not.

Here's a clip filmed by lucas that was originally to have taken place right after R2 and 3PO escape the Blockade Runner of Luke and Biggs hanging out on Tatooine.

I actually like the clip. The acting isn't any worse than the rest of the film, though it moves pretty slow and much of it has little to do with the actual plot. It does, however, show a lot of depth to Luke. He's not just a whiney jerk. He's still whiney, but at least he has reasons for it. And he has a friend or two.

Anyway, love it or not.

Not working here so I'll try to watch it at home. I've never seen it before--my only contact with this scene has been through the old children's picture book version of Star Wars.

I wonder why it wasn't put as an extra on a DVD?

It's cool, but I can see why they didn't put it in. Doesn't add a whole lot, and the dialogue isn't exactly inspired stuff. Especially that line about "the best friend I ever had." It just doesn't seem to fit Luke.

Huh. I liked this! Actually, I'm not sure this is the scene from the picture book at all. Isn't there a scene where Biggs comes back after he has found the rebels?

The thing I never understood was that when Biggs gets killed, Luke doesn't react AT ALL. Why?

Who were those other people? "I was in Star Wars but all my scenes got cut
from the theatrical release." How many people can say that? I only even remember two other women being in the first movie at all.

Luke is "in the zone" Ookla! There isn't time to cry and fret, he's got a job to do,

Seriously, have you ever known Luke to get all emotional when someone close to him dies, or is threatened or something?

:P

Obi-Wan.

and there is a 3 second shot of Luke mourning the passing of Biggs. A short little sad tune plays and he just stares. But then he's got a Death Star to blow up.

And then he's just happy, and stops thinking about Biggs ever again, because he's no longer a whiney farm boy. He's the HERO!

he just stares

Pretty much no reaction. He could grit his teeth or say his name or something... *shrug*
