Title: That thing
Post by: Gemm: Rock & Roll Star; Born to Rock on October 21, 2003, 11:30:11 AM
Well, its been out for a few weeks now. I haven't heard much about it since its release. Anybody else really actually care about it? Not that I do, I could care less. I speak of the N-Gage thingy, that thing thats suppose to be a contender against Nintendo's GBA.

/me laughs until it causes serious internal injury.

The N-gage is not a competitor for GBA at all. For a start, it's already bombed, it didn't sell at all during the release. I wonder why, considering the advertising spiel focused around directly insulting the target audience, like with that print ad featuring the skater/manthing. And then they suggest that it is somehow uncool and kiddy to own a GBA, failing to realise that most gamers are considered uncool if they *don't* own GBA.

No thanks.

It's a competitor, just a laughable one that has no chance of actually competing. I honestly don't think that there were any game industry people involved in the N-Gage--they obviously have no idea how to deal with the market.

about 5,000 have been sold so far state-side.  In Europe a laughable 500 have been sold.

N-Gage didn't have a market to begin with. Another speculation that's doing the rounds is that Nokia will suffer really heavy losses on the aforementioned product and will be forced to increase the prices of it's other products-sort of a chain reaction.

they're up to 400,000 worldwide now.  That's not bad for a new system that nobody cares about.  The thing the N-Gauge needs is a must have game.  It uses Bluetooth which is a realy cool and fast wireless setup (kinda like haveing a wireless network that can connect with and phones is several hundred feet), so you can have some realy awsome multiplayer games.

While I'm thinking about it, why is it that you can't use cell phones in airplanes? Anyone got an answer?

The frequency that phones use cause interference with planes inboard navagation equipment.

I'll have to agree with spriggan there. NGage has some pretty neat features like support for online multiplayer games using bluetooth wireless technology and GPRS. And the system supports 3D games, so it does hold some potential. Didn't about the 400,000 stat though.
