Lately I've been rediscovering both Tears for Fears and Roxette.  Fun albums I haven't listened to in years.

The rediscovery was spurned on by a watching of Donnie Darko where they do that amazing cover of "Mad World"

The Donnas.   I do love their version of "Keep on lovin' you"

And I'm listening to them because ABC Family is showing "Drive Me Crazy" (again) where they played the Electrocutes, before their album hit it big.

Ace of Base. Which I suppose should be counted as "guilty listening" but isn't.

I've been listening to Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle for about a month now. It's really, really good. I love Maynard's lyrics and singing.

Schroeder's Greatest Hits.

Yeah, BMG got me to buy half a dozen CDs from this line of concert music by just putting a Peanuts character on the cover of a CD collecting piano music. Of course, at first they only got me to buy the one disc, but they did a good job of it, so I bought "TV Classics," "Classical Music for Home Improvements," "Pachabel's Cannon and Other Baroque Hits," "Classics Greatest Hits" and "Vivaldi's Greatest Hits" as well.

They were a pretty decent line. Though their recording of "The Planets"  isn't as good as the one conducted by Mehta. Unfortunately, the good one was lost when I wrapped my Buick around a  tree some years ago. That made me sad. I shall go cry now.

I just picked up a copy of The Darkness's Permission to Land.  Wow. I don't know if this is supposed to be a joke or serious or what...but it's good.  The singer's high pitch is laughable at times (all in good rock 'n roll fun) but the music is great all the way through.

To put it as a comedian on VH1's The Best Week Ever: "It's like all the 80's hair bands got together and had a baby that gestated and mutated until it popped up 20 years later to rock you."

LoL.  That guy... he's so ugly.  But you just keep looking at him because you're convinced you must be seeing him wrong.  He has great hair though.  I'm a sucker for long hair.

if that's the singer of the same song on the radio that I'm thinking of, then I will never trust your taste in music again. The song I'm thinking of SUCKS. I always turn it the moment I hear it, so I have no idea who it's by. But he sings really high pitched like that, and erg... it's wrong on so many levels.

Miles Davis, Porgy and Bess. A friend lent it to me tonight and I'm on my second listening. I've wanted to hear good jazz forever and he's lending me cds to help me know what to look for. Good stuff.

Good, good. Since you're/we're on the topic of Jazz let me ask here. Know of anywhere that I could get samples of works from these artists:

Mutt Carey
Buddy Bolden
Jack Carey
Baby Dodds
Bud Scott
and Alex Hill.

now, for Jazz (as in any music) I *love* guitar. My two current favs are Al DiMeola (Jazz Fusion, but intense stuff) and Mark Whitfield (more traditional, with a mellow sound). Mark I like more, his guitar sounds well, perfect. And he's got some great tunes. His improve is very nice. I recommend his album "True Blue" most.

As a cornet and horn player, I'm partial to the horns. So Miles Davis (trumpet) is some slick stuff.

I love Jazz. I discovered about three weeks ago I was a beatnik by chance. Since then, I have accumulated about six jazz albums around he house that I'm listening to. and some Brian Eno, Funnily enough.

Everyone here makes me feel really young/less sophisticated...

I could never stand listening to Jazz. I've tried. It wasn't pretty.
