Title: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 20, 2006, 06:48:54 PM
http://www.cybernations.net/
Does anyone else play this? I heard about it some time last week, and have been playing ever since. If anyone has ever played Nation States, it is similar, except with more features, and with an element of Risk gameplay added in.

That looks kinda promising. Reckon we could resurrect Procrastania and become an alliance of belligerent yet lazy nations waging war upon anything within casual strolling distance?
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 21, 2006, 05:16:38 AM
I wasn't here for Procrastania, so I wouldn't know about that one, but it would be cool to get a group of TWGers going. If anyone wants to join, I should be able to protect you until you get on your feet. Or, if you want, I can give you guys a jumpstart on money. Mind you, I've only been going less than two weeks, and I am not in any alliances, so I won't be able to help everyone as much as I would like to, but let me know your country name, and I will do what I can.

By the way, I am The Master Archon, my nation is Halo I (in Eastern Europe), and I am on Team Green.

I will probably get interested in it. Procratania sounds like it is called for once again.

Just so you know Archon, when we first heard about Nation States, several of us were interested and there was a short-lived TWG continent, which we called Procrastania. Then it got repetitive really fast, so we all stopped ogin.

Sounds like fun, me thinks I will try it.

Nation: Neo-Assyria. (http://www.cybernations.net/nation_drill_display.asp?Nation_ID=16293)
Ruler Name: Entsuropi
Location: Iraq
Resources: Gold and Furs (?)
Team: Green.

I've got an Arabic population, with a totalitarian government (the people want a royalty), i'm using the Riyal as a currency (rl currency of Saudi Arabia, who have a royal family) and the people want to be Buddhist. I'm a third world nation and I suck in pretty much every way measured.

How do we set up alliances?
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Entsuropi on May 22, 2006, 10:05:04 AM
Also, lets all go into team green. There are some benefits to teams and i don't think we gain anything by not sticking together like that.

EDIT: Being in a team only means you get a happiness bonus from trading with another team member. It's got nothing to do with anything else, and you can switch teams apparently.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 22, 2006, 12:43:16 PM
You can switch teams, but I think it is still a good idea to all be on team green, if only because other people usually draw alliances according to teams, so if you are on another team, people from green team won't usually be as friendly, so it could be a conflict of interests.

Tomorrow, Ent, I should be able to give you a decent boost, somewhere along the lines of 750 Marks, and more, as time goes on. I would give you more, but I don't want to fall too far behind on upgrading my own country. Also, I should be able to help you militarily, if someone attacks you. Hopefully, we can get you to a reasonable level, and then we can both help anyone else who wants to join.

Alliances aren't really officially supported, i.e. there is no game feature that forms an alliance. It is just an agreement between you and I that we will support each other militarily, financially, whatever. If you want a more official feel, the more established alliances will put something in their profile to signify that they are part of an established alliance.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Entsuropi on May 22, 2006, 01:36:56 PM
Yeah. I've been looking at the alliances forum. It's kinda disturbing to see that the largest alliances have like 30 nukes between them. It'd be nice to have a page listing various alliance stuff, as it appears very odd and forum based for that side of things. Largest alliances have over 100 members apiece.

I'd say that worrying about wars is not a big concern, but I just spotted that there are 1,800 wars currently raging in a game with 10,000 nations. 3 nuclear attacks in the last day or so.

Main need is to get hold of some resources. Do you have access to any of these, archon?

rubber
coal
spices
sugar
Wheat
Cattle
Fish

All of those have some degree of population growth enhancement.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 22, 2006, 03:08:14 PM
I do have rubber, but I already have all of my trading slots full. What I would suggest Ent, is to just go shopping in the new green countries section, find the resources you want, and offer a trade agreement. That's what I did, for the most part.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 23, 2006, 02:21:47 AM
Whoa, Ent. I went to give you foreign aid, but when I discovered that you had more troops than I did, I assumed that you were already getting all the foreign aid you need.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Entsuropi on May 23, 2006, 06:46:02 AM
Heh, yeah. I dropped a $5 donation down (you get some minor bonuses in return) and spent most of it on infrastructure, but a bit on troops. Game kept complaining at me for having too small an army - so now 10% of my total population are under arms.

Swell.

Oh, yeah, I forgot;
Nation: Sober Ireland
Ruler: Egardo
Location: Scotland (http://www.cybernations.net/nation_drill_display.asp?Nation_ID=16390)
Resources: Gems and Suger
Team: green

My nation hates their goverment (not really, they just want to be democratic) and wants to be Islamic. I need more money, other than that I'm doing well.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 24, 2006, 10:54:04 PM
Yeah, the money problem gets better as you go. In a week or two, it should clear up.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Entsuropi on May 25, 2006, 07:58:05 AM
Yeah, buy infrastructure with a few soldiers constantly for the time being. I'm breaking $6,000 taxes per day.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Faster Master St. Pastor on May 25, 2006, 09:56:16 AM
Yeah, that would be easy, and I was doing it, except some idiot declared war on me for no reason
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Entsuropi on May 25, 2006, 10:48:08 AM
That happens. Especially out of alliances. I'm moderately safe, because even if someone does declare war on me, i'd just shout for help and the guy whould get zerg rushed.  Of course, my alliance is at war, but there is no NAAC nearby who are in my war-range. So i'm safe atm.

Who is attacking you? Can you post the battles? I've sent an aid offer of 74 men to you. Accept it, and remember to change your DEFCON to 1 so you can cheaply recruit soldiers. Do that AFTER you collect taxes (since it reduces tax income I believe) on the first day, but remember it'll take a few days for it to be changed again.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Faster Master St. Pastor on May 25, 2006, 06:34:42 PM
This is the guy who attacked me:
Nation: russmania
Ruler: lars the goodlooking
Team: Red
Soliders: 65
Defcon Level: 3

I can't help but laugh with glee; thanks to you and Archon I now have 183 soliders, I can't wait for tomorrow so I can deploy them.

EDIT: here's the battles I've been in.
Battle 1: You have been attacked by lars the goodlooking. You lost 4 soldiers and 0 tanks. You killed 15 soldiers and 0 tanks. Their forces razed 0.000 miles of your land, stole 0.000 technology, and destroyed 0.000 infrastructure. Their forces looted $0.00 from you and you gained $20.57 in your enemy's abandoned equipment. In the end the battle was a Victory.

Battle 2: You have been attacked by lars the goodlooking. You lost 12 soldiers and 0 tanks. You killed 1 soldiers and 0 tanks. Their forces razed 0.040 miles of your land, stole 0.000 technology, and destroyed 0.134 infrastructure. Their forces looted $3.04 from you and you gained $0.00 in your enemy's abandoned equipment. In the end the battle was a Defeat.

Battle three I lost (it was a counter attack) and he killed 12 guys, and gained about 17 dollars.

When he inevitably has to surrender to you, remember to demand reparations. Grind him into poverty!

Reparations are a major part of the alliance meta-game. It's been known for reparations to run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars after alliance wars :)

Russmania:
Nation Strength:       15.461 (My nation strength is: 177.035)
/me smirks

I can't actually war with him (out of range - needs to be within 10 points or so of my nation strength and within 1500 miles) but I'll continue sending you soldiers as you need.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Faster Master St. Pastor on May 26, 2006, 01:54:54 AM
Actually what I need right now is money (I have a 15 cent decifit) since with all the soliders I have defending my economy is pretty much screwed (about a hundred dollars in taxes screwed). It might clear up when I depoly in the morning, but as far as I'm concerned I don't think I'll be to milk out more than three hundred or so.

As reperations go not only am I going to bankrupt him, but I'm thinking of just declaring war on him again after winning and ruining his economy to teach him a lesson, and it'd be fun to crush what little chance of recovery he has.

Declare war on me will you!

Yeah, I just carried out two succesful attacks against him.
Battle 1:You have been attacked by Egardo. You lost 5 soldiers and 0 tanks. You killed 6 soldiers and 0 tanks. Their forces razed 0.018 miles of your land, stole 0.000 technology, and destroyed 0.094 infrastructure. Their forces looted $3.54 from you and you gained $0.00 in your enemy's abandoned equipment. In the end the battle was a Defeat.

Battle 2: You have been attacked by Egardo. You lost 18 soldiers and 0 tanks. You killed 18 soldiers and 0 tanks. Their forces razed 0.019 miles of your land, stole 0.000 technology, and destroyed 0.098 infrastructure. Their forces looted $6.22 from you and you gained $0.00 in your enemy's abandoned equipment. In the end the battle was a Defeat.

Sorry, they're from his perspective; I just copied the battle reports the system sent to him.

Hey FPM... are you attacking? You have to use the 'deploy military' button to do so. Me and archon looked at russmania, he's worse than you in every way and has gotten only a tiny trickle of foreign aid, so we can't see how he stood up to the 150 soldiers we sent you :s

Tomorrow we'll throw some cash at you, you can use it to buy loads of soldiers and make sure to deploy loads of them into his sensitive areas. :D
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Mad Dr Jeffe on May 27, 2006, 11:02:08 PM
and you'll loan me lunch money so I can build up some infra in hippy mode... then I'll go militaristic...

Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 27, 2006, 11:45:48 PM
Jeffe, you know you don't have to be on hippy mode right? You can't be attacked until your fourth day. Hopefully, we should have you decently strong by then. To that end, we are sending you some aid. We will be sending you a lot, but only keep 1000 of the money for yourself. Send the rest of the money and the troops to FMP, since he is in a war right now.

FMP, we are going to funnel you some more aid. It is from the Jurado Digital Alliance. It is not conditional, it is an act of good faith. If you want to join, after this is done, feel free to do so. When you are sufficiently rebuilt, we will talk again.

I've been attacking, but I sent too many out the first day and it started riots, which crippled my economy. Then yesterday night (I was up late) I attacked again and then pulled a large portion of my troops back to defend against a counter attack, which wouldn't have been a problem except I then bought enough soliders to make my citizens unhappy.

So yeah, I have been attacking with deployed military, but seeing as this is my first time I haven't been doing a praticularly good job. No worries though, the whole trial and error thing really works.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 28, 2006, 12:35:03 AM
With the number of troops we sent you, you should be able to keep like 60 back to defend, and then attack with the rest,  which should amount to well over 100. Anyway, check your PM's.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations

the alliance feature is totally roleplaying right?

Cause I really dont read manuals.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Mad Dr Jeffe on May 28, 2006, 02:37:34 AM
ok as pathetic as it is 10 soldiers have been sent to aid my ally Sober Ireland in crushing Russmania, which sounds suspiciously like wrasslemania.

Im still waiting for yall to donate a few florins my way though for some good old fashioned development.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Faster Master St. Pastor on May 28, 2006, 05:53:52 AM
So, it looks like I may have him on the run, or at least he's trying to build himself back up for a while; because even though his last activity was yesterday morning he didn't attack me, despite me attacking him. Either way this news pleases me.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Entsuropi on May 28, 2006, 09:51:57 AM
Your both in anarchy. Offer him peace - your economy needs to recover, I think. I can't send you aid, because i've already sent you aid recently. Just bought 311 soldiers as well, whoops. Might go invade someone. Sent Jeffe as much money as it would allow me to.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 28, 2006, 01:10:16 PM
Jeffe, did you keep 1000 of that aid package? And yes, the alliance feature is, in fact, roleplaying. By the way, Jeffe, the reason why the aid seems so little is that our big players already have their foreign aid spots full, so that aid came from the little ones. Give it a few days, and we will help you two out more, if you still need it.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Faster Master St. Pastor on May 28, 2006, 03:46:00 PM
So how does one demand reparations? I just realized that  after I attacked him today that he had already offered me peace yesterday, the system should send you a message when that happens. But yeah, how does that work? Do I just send a message demanding reparations?
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 28, 2006, 03:53:57 PM
Yeah, you just tell him that he is going to pay you X amount, or you are going to keep warring.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Faster Master St. Pastor on May 28, 2006, 04:06:15 PM
Ok, I wish I had known that before I accepted peace from him. Maybe it'll still work thought because I sent him a note telling him that if I didn't get reparations by wed I'd attack again, and since I have a stronger economy than him I should be ready to destroy him.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Mad Dr Jeffe on May 28, 2006, 08:37:58 PM
Ha! I was attacked

Intercepting Fist (neo19387)
Blue Team

I hit him back really really hard... so maybe he'll learn from his mistake.

First battle went so so with me losing 4 infantry to his six...
of course the second hurt him

I lost one infantry he lost 21 infantry.

Dont mess with a mad scientist.

So Aid

might be a good idea.

Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Mad Dr Jeffe on May 28, 2006, 08:53:12 PM
So I also said if he wants peace, he can have it (which a sane person would do considering I dwarf his military right now and it will just get worse tonight when I get my taxes.)

I did save the thousand, even though it would buy me mucho land. (course I may grow soon anyway...) ;)

Who needed it.

Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Faster Master St. Pastor on May 28, 2006, 09:05:50 PM
I needed it, but you'll have to wait before you give it to me because of the stupid system. Anyway, since I can't help you through forgien aid I figure I'll just attack the guy too.

EDIT: Ok, nevermind, I'll have to wait on that too because I changed my war/peace status to help me recover from my war, so now I have to wait for the second to change it back. If you haven't crushed him by then or if I haven't grown too far to attack him then I'll attack.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Mad Dr Jeffe on May 28, 2006, 09:26:50 PM
Ha, well I bought more troops on my first turn than he had in his whole army, so I dont think He'll be a big problem for a bit...
heck I only lost 7 of almost a hundred soldiers (which is a lot for me.)

So

I'll shoot your loan over in a bit.

Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 28, 2006, 11:48:04 PM
FMP, that was out of order. The thousand was attached to an aids package, the rest of which he forwarded to you. Keep in mind, the only reason you got the upper hand in that conflict was because of me, Entropy, and the JDA. And the reason that you aren't getting more aid is, as I already explained, that our foreign aid spots are filled. So, you need to cool it for a couple days, and we will consider you for aid again when our slots reopen.

Um, I didn't get anything else, except ten soliders that I'm going to give back. As far as the money that you said I'd get I never did. No worries though, I think that I (or everyone) got confused.

Also Jeffe, what I think is funny is that he surrendered after I sent a note to him telling him exactlly how thoroughly you were going to crush him. Of course I could just be being arrogant (very likely). Anyway I think its funny.

dont give the troops back... It'll screw me up worse right now... I got jacked up in wave one. I have almost as many troops now as I have citizens... not good.

I got a couple of thou from ent and archon, but Id sent my troops the day before and I couldnt send any more... lame system...

Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on May 31, 2006, 01:59:33 PM
I think it is fair, otherwise you could never really beat a person in war, they could just have a constant stream of foreign aid coming in. This way, they can only get a few, big shipments, instead of a constant stream.

Alright, I just had an aid slot open up, so do you guys still need help?

Alright, I just tried this, and apparently, I can't give you aid until the 4th, so... I'll help you out then.

Edit: Yeah, Jeffe, that's what I have been doing. I just logged on today and collected taxes after a few days, and I had 13,000. It was pretty nice. Now that I dumped that all into infrastructure, I am making close to 6000 a day.

2nd edit: Okay guys, I just sent you each 4000, courtesy of myself, and the Jurado Digital Alliance. We encourage you to join, but again, it is not a conditional gift. Do with it as you please.

Okay thanks. That money, as well as my taxes just shot me up nearly 30 points in the rankings.

Also, how exactly do you join an alliance? I've tried to figure it out, but I just can't.

*FMP hangs his head in shame*
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Entsuropi on June 04, 2006, 09:49:19 PM
It's all roleplay. You ask to join the alliance in question, then if they say yes you just put it in your nations bio.

The rest is all IRC/forum based roleplay and co-ordinated planning, basically.

And btw, when you don't collect taxes on a certain day you get 8% interest. You also pay 10% on your bills, which also accumulate. It's not worth it, money wise.
Title: Re: Cyber Nations
Post by: Archon on June 05, 2006, 01:58:45 AM
What I do Ent, is to collect taxes one day, and then pay my bills every day with that money for a few days, so that my taxes can collect interest. I think that it works out to being worth it, considering the fact that if I collect my money and buy stuff with it, my expenses go up for those couple days, and I don't get the 8% interest. And, the more you buy infrastructure, the more it costs, so that way I can buy it in chunks of 10. Also, since I had to accumulate a decent sum of money for foreign aid, it was just more convenient.

Welcome to the TWG forums, BTW - read the FAQ (http://www.timewastersguide.com/boards/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=news;action=display;num=1080380396) and introduce yourself (http://www.timewastersguide.com/boards/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=news;action=display;num=1051196804;start=135), but if your a CN forum vet you should be pretty good at this civilised talking stuff.

Who are you the diplomat to? I'm the diplomat from GATO to LUE, which basically means I play scorched earth online with LUE a lot.

Sorry Gemm, I have been on a trip for a few days, so I only just now noticed your post. On behalf of the Jurado Digital Alliance, I've just sent you some pretty decent aid.

And if I remember next time I get on I'll try to help too, on behalf of myself and my rogue nation.

Hmmm.... my nation went from Revolutionary Government to Totalitarian State, and my people's happiness went from 16.10 to 16.50. A 0.40 increase.... My people are strange.

Okay, I've just been attacked by some retard who is on the SAME team as me, just when I was recovering from my last war. As you can probably guess I need some financial aid, as well as any cruise missles or soliders that you guys are willing to give me.

Thank you. Once again the financial support has put me on the path to victory, and I am so going to make him bleed with reparations.

One of these days I'll figure out how to join your alliance, but for now it remains aloof from me.
