Forum PVP System
« on: December 19, 2003, 09:19:59 PM »
I know that our TWG PVP system isn't highly developed and suchandall, (many probably didn't even notice it) but I've noticed a problem with the system that could use a little brushing up if anyone ever goes back to look at it. The rebuttal thing at the end of the bout seems to decide everything about the battle.

For instance: (Sorry fuzzyoctopus)

---

You cast your No Spell spell!
fuzzyoctopus defends with a Elemental Shield spell!
spell absorbs 13 damage!
You hit fuzzyoctopus for 9 damage!
fuzzyoctopus has -40 hit points left.

fuzzyoctopus makes a mighty speech!
You try a rebuttle, but fail!
fuzzyoctopus wins the bout point, and screams: 0

---

This was the ending two segments of the titanic battle between fuzzyoctopus and Must-Be-An-Elf-Prometheus. I could be misunderstanding something, but usually getting the enemy to negative hit points means one has won a match.

As I've pointed out before, there is no way to 'win' this yet.  Everything that happens below the line 'practice' is simply there for my de-bugging purposes.

Ah. If I noticed your comments on that earlier, I'd forgotten. I don't even remember what language you said you were programming that stuff in, but do you need any help with it?

Nah, I'm doing okay.  I'll get back to it here in a bit.  It's in perl, by the way.

Icky. I've seen that stuff before, and it wasn't pretty.

That's why I like it.  I found Pascal and C++ just had so many dinky little rules that I thought were foolish.  Perl lets me be sloppy, and still works.
