EUOL stated in his blog that he is worried about the sales of his forthcoming book Warbreaker and I was just curious to see who has read it and if you are going to buy it anyway.
I read it online and loved it so I plan on buying it and rereading the finished product.
-
I half read it. It got to the point where I just skimmed because I was reading like 5 books at once, that I can't stand reading books on a computer or on one side of paper. (I know the latter is a bit weird.)
I enjoyed it and will buy it for sure. I have read a couple of EUOL's books on my computer and DEFINITELY plan on buying them once they come out. I'm a collector though. ha ha. I currently have all of his books in hard back and signed (two of which are numbered)
-
What only two? :D
-
LOL
Yes, sadly I never was able to make it to a signing until the HoA release. Although I did get a signed copy of Elantris they had left over from a signing he did here. ha ha. You should get on FB I haven't downloaded messenger since I last fixed my computer.
-
I printed myself a copy of the latest online version Brandon posted. Unfortunately, the printing didn't go over too well and I've many, many occasions where the printer skipped some pages or had other pages stuck together. It's a real mess. I haven't tried to re-print and I don't plan to.
I will be picking up the book in June, though.
-
I think all of my hbs except Elantris are numbered.
And I am on fb. Just barely, but hey, I also just finished a very Gabby episode so... *shrug*

I read it, and I'll still be buying it. I expect there may be some minor changes, it's been almost a year since I read it anyhow.
I'm also fascinated to see how, if at all, it will affect his sales. I suspect that this might be a case where his rising visibility as Jordan's successor might play against him, as before I didn't think the number of fans who would have downloaded and read it would be as significant as the number of potential purchasers who would discover it for the the first time on the shelf, but I think a lot more people have been looking at him lately, and may have spotted the free book, and checked it out.
Now, how many of those people will also buy the book... well, that's the question, isn't it?
Has he said anything about the total number of people who downloaded the file? Surely this number is being tracked so that it can be compared to sales data post-publishing.
-
I read one of the earlier drafts when it was still being posted as a work in progress, but i stopped posting here before the final version was released (I think. Not entirely sure which one was the latest I read), and haven't read it since.
so yea, i'll be buying the book when it arrives
-
I read the whole thing multiple times online (different versions, etc.). I don't love reading on a computer, but for some things it's worth it. I loved Warbreaker--it was possibly my favorite so far--so of course I'm going to buy it! (And everyone else should too...)
-
I read it online and was very impressed. I am sure I will purchase it at some point but I can not do that right now. My budget is shot and I need to get it under control before I can buy anything. That may mean that I do not end up with a hard cover of this book and I normally only buy hard covers. Then again my book club does stock Brandon so I can order the hardcover through them for 15.
-
I read part of it, but am not a fan of reading from a computer. I will buy the book although i shouldn't because I am poor and I probably won't be able to read it for some time b/c of my WOT re-re-read.
-
I have also read it online and plan on buying the hardback, but one thing to keep in mind with this poll is that the people who are here are the dedicated fans.....
-
I've read the various drafts multiple times and had to tell myself in like december that I wasn't allowed to read it again until it came out for real so I'll enjoy it more then. (That's what happened when I read Mistborn for the second time about 6 months after I had originally read it. And I work as a cashier and have a lot of down time, so that's where I was reading and the patrons were giving me very odd looks once I started squealing and jumping up and down when I realized that my favorite part was coming up.)
Also, that cover is so pretty, I just want it on my bookshelf. Then again, even if it wasn't pretty I'd want it on my bookshelf... I'm rambling. But yeah, I'm totally getting it =]
-
The cover is pretty nice. I think it may be the best out of them all..... besides maybe HoA paperpack (for me at least)
-
I will buy it and read it, and then after that I think I will work my way through all the drafts.
-
Around 1/20 of the books I buy are hardcover. I bought Mistborn 3 in hardcover. I will not be buying Warbreaker in hardcover, since I've read it online, but I will be buying it in paperback. Data!
-
Explanation: I have read it online and will likely check it out at the library to compare 6.1 with the release.
-
I've tried reading it on the computer but I learned I don't like to so I'm going to wait until I can buy it.
Some of you are lucky to have number copies. I can't get on because I live almost half way across the country. i know I can get them on line but I just haven't gotton to it yet.
-
Im in the same boat with you.... :'(
-
umm 6.1 is the version number that BS applied to the last .doc version he put on his site.
-
I'll probably get the paperback. I buy very few hardcovers because I simply can't afford to pay $28 for a book.
-
I have read some of it on the computer. I prefer to have a book in my hands to read or my Kindel. But I have pre ordered the book so I am good..
-
When I lived in a city with a large library system I bought paperback because I could get almost everything through the library first. My hardback collection is expanding since I moved to a small town.
I hate reading on my computer, I haven't even tried Warbreaker because I don't want to even start until I can read it in a comfy place.
And it comes out next month! It's nice to be able to say that now.
-
I plan to buy Warbreaker, although I don't know when...I may wait for the paperback.
-
I plan to buy it for two reasons:
1) It was awesome.
2) I want Brandon to survive long enough to write more books. This is me doing my part in supporting him.
And seriously, I'm a sixteen year old kid with no job, trying to figure out how to pay for college, etc. I'll be buying this book, and I'll be doing so out of my own pocket. I understand that there are some people who can't afford it at all right now, but the rest of you who can ought to at least buy the paperback to support Brandon's work.
-
I have read the 4.2 version on-line and I plan to buy the hardback as soon as it's out even if I have to order it specifically from America. I really hate reading books on-line yet I just had to read it and it was well worth it. I thought it was a great book and definitely want to own it.

Books online are harder to read and it's tedious. You can't roll over on your side and much pretzels that way. (pretzel crumbs in the keyboard are not fun.) It's also a pain in the but to search for something if you can't remember at least partial keywords. With a paper book you can have a vague impression of where it was and what the passage looked like, then scan.
There were good points and some not so good points in Warbreaker. The biggest issue is that I felt Warbreaker and Vivenna were guests in the great little book about Susebron and his bride. The natural extension seemed to be to explore how Suse and Siri reform the nation and begin to set the people and the "gods" free. It was quite a lurch to find that no Vivenna and Warbringer were the stars. Go figure. :) But we've only seen beta versions so far, so maybe some of that got fixed in the copy editorial.

Yeah I know what you mean but that was part of what I liked about this book and Brandon's other books, you never know what will happen next. I love a book that has good twists and keeps you guessing. I think the ending could of involved a bit of the battle between the Lifeless and the Statues but then that's just me I love a good battle scene.

My major thing is if I'm reading a series, I want to try and get the whole thing in one format (paperback or hardcover). I started with Mistborn in paperback, so I wanted the whole trilogy in paperback, haha. With Warbreaker, I'm around for the hardcover version to come out and it's a oneshot (I think?) so I'll be getting it just about as soon as I can physically make it to the bookstore after the hardcover comes out.

Same here. I bought Hero of Ages when it came out in hardback and I had to recently buy it in paperback so it would match the rest of the series. Elantris is in paperback as well.
-
I've read Warbreaker and have already preordered two copies of it; one for myself and another for a friend.
-
I've read it, and I'll likely buy it when it's translated to Polish. Depends on the price and quality of translation. Buying English version depends on shipping costs. Anyway I'm going to show my support somehow. If both options fail, it can be Paypal.
If more artists start to publish some of their work on Commons licences, it will be great.

Not only did I read an early draft online, (I'm reading the final now while I wait for it to release here) it also turned me onto Brandon's other books, and eventually WoT. So I'd say he did pretty well out of Warbreaker in my case ;)
-
I read the prolouge back in April, and I was extremely excited by it after reading it, so I stopped, and went and preordered the book. When it did come out, I ate the book up, and now that I'm finished I want to read it again. It was such a good book.
-
I read it online like last year and bought the book the second day of its release finished both in 2 days loved em. Hey whens Brandons next signing i want to go get them all signed ;D
