Title: Office Pool
Post by: House of Mustard on September 18, 2003, 02:49:45 PM
Okay, since I work in an office full of middle aged women, and therefore miss out on all things football related, I propose we begin an 'office pool' here:

The rules, assuming any of you are interested in playing:

1) Each week, I will post the post the point spreads (I will only choose ten or twelve games).

2)  Post your picks before noon on Thursday (this week -before noon on Friday).

3)  For every correct pick, you'll get a point.

So:  For example, I post:
Texas vs. Virginia Tech (-15)

This means that Virginia Tech is picked to win by 15 points.  So, you can vote two ways:  Either say that Virginia Tech will win by at least 15, or that they won't.

If you choose VT, and the score is VT: 21 Texas: 13, then you are big loser (VT only won by 7, not 14).

Does this make any sense?  It's really pretty simple.

Also - the ten or fifteen games I choose each week will be either be big deal games, or games of local interest to participants.  Consequently, being in Utah, there will be a lot of MWC games.  If you have an alma mater or other favorite you want included, let me know.

Why does it have to be College Football? I don't pay attention to College football. If it were the NFL I'd go for it, but you may get my picks.

UNLV vs. Hawaii (-2) UNLV
Wyoming vs. Airforce (-20) Airforce
Miami vs. Boston College (-7) BC
Oregon vs. Michigan (-6) Michigan

And where is Penn State Homsar???

Random choices, huh? I pick whichever team has fewer letters in their names, as you typed it on the list.

I can't believe you want to get TWG involvement for something sports related (besides the World Cup). What kind of geek are you?
Title: Re: Office Pool
Post by: Mistress of Darkness on September 18, 2003, 08:00:16 PM
I don't understand why football is on a TWG forum. It's not in any way gaming related. ;)

Besides, it's boring. There's more action per minute in  WarHammer.

/me laughs

I can't wait till were all old and gray, and pruning. Sitting around a TV with our kids watching televised matches of Warhammer, Mage Knight, Heroclix, Magic, etc... Can no one else see this? Our kids in their office jobs, making an office pool seeing which team will win in this seasons HCL(Heroclix League).

It will be the future.

Well, since football is already having "spectator" commercials, it's probably not very far off.

Conisdering the existance of the World Cyber Games, such a thing is beginning to sound very plausable.

That would be scary - when you roll a 1, the entire world laughs with your opponent.

And most wargamers arn't TV friendly as such, although we make surprisingly good storytellers (you get into the habit of relating battles so often that you become practiced...).

Magic tournaments are already broadcast on one of ESPN's various channels. Only the really big tournaments, though, like the World Championships.

So as of the noon deadline we only have 4 takers?  Well I want you all to know that you're losers already as Virginia Tech won last night.  One point for me.

Gemm -- I'm more than happy to toss in some NFL too - which teams would you like?  I'm a fan of Green Bay and Pittsburgh - what's your preference?

Oh, and we'll add Penn State too.

Title: Re: Office Pool

Title: Re: Office Pool

The 49ers have Brandon Doman, who was BYU's QB (13-2 as starter.)  He's something like 3rd or 4th string now, but he got a lot of play in the pre-season.

Wyoming vs. Airforce (-20) Airforce by 6
Miami vs. Boston College (-7)  Miami by 19

Kind of sad really.  You would think that, if you chose totally randomly, you would get 50%, right?  Instead, Entropy and Fell managed a big 36%.  I got 54%.  Gemm got 27%.  We all suck.

I choose all the teams who live in cities who's symphonies are led by foreign conductors. Or, if that's too hard to research, I'll just stick with the short names.

Now, in a period of months (1, 2, 3, etc..), lets see how long until I take myself to a psychologist/psyciatrist. And maybe to even further it, will the person examining me go insane/suicidal, or will I just stop?

Fine by me.  Welcome back, by the way.

Also, would anyone be terribly depressed if we ended the pool with the superbowl?  We've been including other sports, but football is so much easier (being only once a week).  We can continue doing other sports until then, and maybe restart this thing for march madness, but basketball and hockey schedules are too complicated to run a pool with (unless everyone posted everyday).

Unfortunately, this looks like it will be the end of the office pool.  I simply don't have the time to keep it up anymore (as my absence from the forum will attest).  If someone else wants to take over, knock yourself out.
