Is Mistborn a nationwide book or a local one. I know i may sound stupid but i'm just wondering. When did that harm anyone.
-
Nation-wide. It's published by Tor.
Another FYI, anything related to Mistborn or and of Brandon's other books should be posted in his forum if you want him to see it. He does check the other boards but not as often as his own.
-
Alright. I only wondered because i live in spanish fork and all my friends seem to know of it. I've asked my cousins in other states and they hadn't heard of it, so i thought it might have recently gone nation-wide, or that it had been already.
-
The reason it's more well known here is because Brandon, or EUOL as we call him, is a local author and he does a lot of local promotions. Like visiting schools and book singings.
-
I see. Well I'm glad to live here then. :) Doesn't he work at BYU, thats what it says in the paperback of Elantris, because my dad works there.
-
He teachers a Creative Writing class once a year at the Y.
-
Ahh I see. That is probably why he doesn't know him.
-
I'm sure EUOL would rather equate that to his mad ninja skills keeping his true identity a secret.
-
EUOL has no ninja skills. He's an undead overlord. *I* control the ninjas.

I am pretty sure that it would be horrifying if EUOL actually did a book singing.

I live in New York. Mistborn is on the shelf of practically every local bookstore I've been to and has been since July 25th (when I bought it).
Utah is a bit far from me but I get the impression that Brandon likes to visit his publishers every few years so I'm holding out hope that I'll eventually get a book signed.
-
You're not convincing enough of your friends to buy it, are you?!
-
So far I've missed every signing in utah except one. I'm hoping to catch it on the 7th.

He useally visits NYC at least once a year if not twice.

He mentioned on his forum that he was holding off on an East Coast tour until next year so that he could hit up both Tor and Scholastic. Â
I happen to work in NYC so if "hitting up Tor and Scholastic" coincides with an NYC signing, I'll be happy.
-
What he meant by that was book tours are expensive and he's waiting to have two book companies help pay for an East Coast trip. Also having the weight of those two publishers will help get him locations.
He usually hits NYC in the spring or early summer to visit Tor and his agent but has yet to do a signing.
-
Ack! Don't make me go to Ebay!
Seriously, though, that makes sense. I'm still allowed to hope he does a book signing and in the meantime if his agent and/or Tor suck at picking out pizza places I'll post a list :).
-
Decided to move this since it was a busy thread and it should be in this forum.
-
Oi. I'm afraid I expected this topic to be much more interesting based on the title "Utah?" and the number of responses it had already received. I'm sure if I'd tried something like "Oregon?" it would have died halfway through my post.

Some answers:
linternet,
I'll be in New York for sure sometime in the next year. My goal is to get out there around the time of the release of the MISTBORN paperback, which should be around May or June.
Seeker,
Most authors tend to sell very well in their home state, because they can do more booksignings there. I've managed to publicize myself very well in Utah. Of course, it's still only the number three state for sales on my books (California and New York, by virtue of population, have quite an advantage.)
Did I post somewhere that I'm doing a signing on the 7th of this month? Because as far as I know, I've got one tonight (well, not really a signing. A meeting with BYU's Quark SF club) and one in Salt Lake on the 27th. Did I forget about one?
Also, it's no surprise that your father doesn't know me. If he happens to be in the English department, he might have heard of me. However, since I only teach adjunct--and only one class a year--I'm not really around all that often.

It says October 7th. But yeah my dad works with The department of plant and animal sciences. Not close to english :'( lol
-
lol. That's right. That store, unfortunately, closed! The mall itself is closing down for remodeling. I suppose I should mention that on the website! Thanks for reminding me.
-
Nooooo! that was my last chance. Lol. oh well. pretend to sign my Mistborn copy right here. :P
-
I was supposed to be there when he signed Mistborn at Waldens but I forgot that I had to work that day. :( And that's terrible that the store in Salt Lake closed...though I couldn't have made it due to some sibling wedding nonsense I'm supposed to attend.
-
There was a copy of Mistborn already signed on the shelf, like a day after he was at Waldenbooks, but I had to wait a few more days to get my paycheck and when i returned, it was long gone.
-
I found one at Borders after I'd already bought a copy.
-
Seeker,
I WILL be at the Gateway mall in Salt Lake at the end of the month. That's very close to where the Borders used to be--it's only about three blocks south of Temple Square.
I'll also be at BYU on November 14th. So, if you live in the area, I should be signing close to you sometime in the near future. It just won't be this weekend. :)
-
Awesome I'll probably catch you then in November. :)
-
The Gateway is actually west of Temple Square, lest anyone go the wrong direction and miss the signing.
-
Oops. Right. I had my directions screwed up. Nice catch.
-

You can always ask EUOL for his address and send the book to be signed. He usually ships them back within the century.
;)

Well I know for a fact that there is one signed copy of Mistborn at the Orem B&N right now, since I was there about and hour or so ago. So if your really wanted it you could drive down there tomorrow and get it, it probably won't be gone, seeing as how a week ago there were two signed copies, and one of them is still there. It'd be a fun way to spend your Saturday ;)
-
What the? I don't see a mention of the signing at my store. I hope I didn't just make up the whole idea that you're coming to the Sandy Barnes & Noble sometime this month. (I admit, I'm not sure which day it is...20-somethingth?) Because I just finished Mistborn about 20 minutes ago and now I have to go buy one of the copies we stockpiled for the signing so you can sign it and you can't sign it if you're not coming. You are coming, right? You sent us a sign and everything...
-
Ha, shows what kind of bookseller I am. Had to go to Brandon's website to find out when he's coming to my store. (Would've called and bugged my manager, but they've closed by now) October 27th, 7pm, Sandy Barnes & Noble. Everyone come out! He'll be there, I'll be there (even if I'm NOT working), and there will be books to buy and have signed. Yay!
-
Ha! I love the avatar, Amalthea!
I'm looking forward to going to the Sandy store. I have a friend who used to work there (Alan Layton--it's been a few years now) and he keeps bugging me to go to that store.
Next week sometime I'll throw up a bigger announcement on the front page of my website, once I'm sure everyone has seen the "My email was down!" one.
You have copies of the paperback Elantris too, I assume?
-
Thanks, it's my favorite movie. ;D
We've got a ton of Mistborn, a healthy stack of hardcover Elantris, and a bunch of the paperback Elantris. So we should have everyone covered.
I don't remember an Alan, so he must have been there over 4 years ago. Yeah, I've been there FOREVER.
