Ninja Day
« on: November 24, 2003, 11:18:10 AM »
You all know how big an advocate I am of Ninjas, so I was pleased to get this from the makers of the Ninja Burger RPG:

Quote
We should have a Day of the Ninja. Forget 'Talk Like a Pirate' Day.
This will truly be our chance to show the world what ninja are made of.

We're going to make Friday, December 5th the Day of the Ninja. Why that
Friday? Because it's opening day for the new Tom Cruise movie, The Last
Samurai, and everyone knows that ninja will be celebrating the fact that
there's only one last samurai left to do away with. And it's Tom Cruise,
at that.

Stupid Gaijin.

I want you to help me take over the Internet on that day. LiveJournal
posts about ninja. Ninja links on all your websites. Photos of yourself
wearing ninja outfits. Whatever. Go Ninja crazy.

There'll also be contests, giveaways and special features on websites
like RPG.net, Gamegrene.com, Fark.com and others. Keep an eye out!

And most importantly, tell YOUR friends and get them aboard. The more
ninja, the merrier. E-mail me to let me know you're aboard, and let me
know what you plan to do to help celebrate the Day of the Ninja.

http://www.ninjaburger.com/dayoftheninja/

I'll be reviewing the Iron Ninja Burger Monkey and Teenage Mutant Ninja Burger supplements for that day. Also, I've requested they send Burgertech and the new card game. So, prepare for Ninja Day!

I'll help.  I really just don't like Tom Cruise.  He almost ruined Minority Report for me. I know I'm an uber-geek, but I get so pissed off every time I see a trailer for that movie, I just want to scream "Tom Cruise isn't a samurai, you idiots!  Kenshin is a hundred times the samurai you'll ever hope to be!"
Or something equally geeky.  And we won't go into how much better-looking than Cruise he is.

I guess it wouldn't be accurate, but is Ninja day a good excuse to carry around my husband's katana?

Hm. How many ninja related articles can we post on that day? SE mentioned two, and I could do a old-timer reveiw of the TMNT RPG. What else can we whip up?

You could add the old-timer review of Ninjas and Superspies.

I like all of these ideas. In the realm of old timer RPG stuff, I'd love to do Ninjas Superspies and Mystic China--I could probably do those and TMNT, if I start now. And some Ninja Burger recipes would be awesome.

Also someone can review the Tenshu (?) game. It is the strategy game where you play as a ninja. You have to kill people sneakily or you lose.

I was all excited at the beginning of the trailer for Last Samurai. I thought it was going to be a history based movie about how General MacArthur (is that right Jeffe?) introduced feudal Japan to the modern world. It did not take long for the trailer to disabuse me of such grand notions. Is it just me or are a lot of stupid movies coming out right now?

Yep, it was MacArthur. And well, Tenchu wasn't my thang.

in all fairness, Cruise isn't playing a samurai, he is playing a westerner who brings gunpowder back to Japan and leads people to victory or some such smack.

also, we need someone to reference the BESM review. Anime, nija, etc.

Umm no not right,
The Distinction of First American leader to open up Japan goes to Commodore Matthew Perry in 1853
and the US Policy at the time of Gunboat diplomacy. Take a ship, stuff it with marines and guns, go to a port and demand trading rights, and bombard it if the natives did not agree to your demands.

Yes, I don't think it was ever intended to be historically accurate. Nor do I think it's intended to be something about opening up Japan for trade. Think Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3 with only one reptile (played by Tom Cruise)

k. But is he the one who actually introduced Western Culture to the Japanese? I remember that there was a General who worked with the Japanese government. . . Or was that in helping them rebuild after the war?

World History was so long ago. . . .

EDIT: Saint: of course. I caught that. That's why I think it's stupid. I find the TMNT much less stupid than TC.
