Carl's Jr. has been my favorite since 1996. I don't know anything about Five Guys.
(This is in reference to the poll at Dan's website (http://www.fearfulsymmetry.net/).)
-
Carl's Jr. Would have been my favorite prior to a couple of months ago, when we finally got a Five Guys here in Utah. It's place SE has been raving about for years, and now that I've had the chance to try it, it completely lives up to the hype. Delicious.
-
Looks like there is one 3 miles away from here. What do you recommend?
-
Anything without bacon ;D

Anything without bacon ;D
blasphemy.

Five Guys is one of these In'n'Out-style joints where there's only four options: a burger, with or without cheese, with or without bacon. Then you add a bunch of free toppings at your pleasure. Surprisingly, the burgers themselves are so good that you don't actually NEED cheese or bacon, unlike some other places I could name. And the fries are great.
-
I went by the Salt City Burger Factor (at least i think its called that). It was ok. They grind up bacon and cook it into the beef. Its kinda like an up-scale Fuddruckers.

Wait, Fell, you would willingly refuse bacon!?
-
I said the burgers didn't need bacon; obviously I still get it anyway. The only thing better than bacon is senseless, hedonistic bacon.
-
I've heard great things about Five Guys.
M2C

So Dan and I (joined by the ever-cherished Lovebasket) went there today, and I was quite impressed. Not as inexpensive as In'n'Out or EZ Takeout, but I liked it a lot more. And they have Cajun fries! I've missed those so much since Barry's closed down. Anyway, I highly recommend them.
-
Hmmm…I just wrote 'M2C' in my last post and I have no idea what it means, now…any ideas?? ???
:P

Perhaps it means Shaggy needs to take a break to recover?

That was cold.

THAT WAS FREAKING HILLARIOUS!!!! :o
-
Are these guys in Utah Valley? 'fso, I might have to give them a shot next time I'm around.
In Reno, we've a pretty awesome burger called the Awful Awful...
-
In Plano, Texas (dallas suburb near where i live) there is an awesome place called Country Burger, but i doubt that interest anyone in the midwest or whatever zone Utah is in...
-
Das right, Kazy. No one cares about Texas. :P (Just kidding.)
-
I still like Tak-Hom-A-Sak (Steak-n-Shake) best.
-

Texas is where it's at 8)
-
WOOT!!!! WOOT!!!!
-
He's just sayin that to make you feel better, kazy boy.

No sir! Texas is the best state in the union!
-
And since we were annexed by treaty we can seceed (yes my spelling is atrocious) from the union...not to mention only we have our own electric grid, only we can produce a nuke completely in our state borders, we have a branch of NASA, our infrastructure is awesome, the list goes on...
I got a texas ring from puretexan.com instead of a lame senior ring...
yeah but this is totaly off topic...i like burgers and bbq....thats on topic
-
And we have plenty of those in Texas!
-
Kaz, you reminded me of this comic strip (http://www.sheldoncomics.com/archive/080528.html).
See also the previous (http://www.sheldoncomics.com/archive/080527.html) and next (http://www.sheldoncomics.com/archive/080529.html) two (http://www.sheldoncomics.com/archive/080530.html).
-
Hahaha!! Do they actually call it 'queso??' :-X
-
It's melted cheese what else would we call it....also I'm one of the few Texans that wear the hat and boots...our higher education system is actually very good and Dallas is where the Fed (Bank) headquarters for the south and mid-west is...and everything overall is bigger in Texas and if something is bigger we get to nuke it!!!!!!
-
Texas wins. nuff said.
-
Once again the topic has strayed from our most important subject, namely me.
-
Dan do you like BBQ?
-
But more importantly, do you like Texas aka home of the queso?
Even more importantly, happy anniversary.
-
Texas is the BBQ capital before home of the queso...and we have plenty of pigs and cattle to make bacon burgers...
-
Mmm. Bacon Burger. Mmm.

Texas where the Governor intervenes to protect his friend the pedophilic school administrator and is elected president the next year? I lived in Texas for a bit and found it to be. . .Well too much crime per capita. We'll leave it at that.
-
But back to Ook's original topic, CJ's is pretty awesome though not so great since the dropped the Cali Roast Beef. Fudrucker's is pretty great, and Red Robin is good, if a bit pricey. Did they have the CJ's steak sandwich back on the menu before you moved Peter? It's pretty good, although not technically a burger.
-
I always just ate the Famous Star, back when they were having their 99˘ special for, oh, 10 years straight. It bugs me that the Famous Star is now north of $2. That's just not right.
-
Do they have Carl's or Hardee's in your neck of the woods?
-
Back on track, or Fell shall not be pleased.
-
Hardee's in Ohio, but they don't serve Famous Stars anymore, just fatburgers or thickburgers or something. I just came from California though and am now in Utah, and it's Carl's Jr. territory here.
-
There's a Hardee's in Salt Lake, a few of them I think, but I always like Carl's Junior better.
-
Peter, Dan, we are gonna have to do a Carl's Jr. run one of these days. I am a fan of the Western BACON (that's right) Cheeseburger.
Though if I want to spend more money, I will go to Fuddruckers.
-
That is such a horrible name...
Hardee's and Carl's Jr. are the same company now. I wish they would just serve the same food.
Hardees.com says the nearest Hardees are in Wyoming and Montana. I heard there used to be some in Salt Lake years ago but not this decade.
-
I don't necessarily have anything against Carl's, but I have to say, if you're going to have a lunch get-together for burgers, why not go to Five Guys? Those Cajun fries are wonderful, and the burgers were really good too.
-
I didn't end up trying Five Guys in CA before leaving. I'll have to try it out here.
-
Yeah for me those names mean nothing...except Fudruckers which is ridicously priced....if i want a real burger though i go buy a sirloin and make it myself ;D
-
Someday I'll have to make it to Louis' Lunch. :-\
-
Just tried Five Guys for the first time yesterday. Verdict: its pretty good. I got the bacon cheeseburger with normal fries. BTW the regular sized fries were more than enough for one person. I was satisfied with the whole experience, and love that they use fresh cut potatoes from Idaho for their fries.
-

I've never seen a Hardee's in Montana before, and I've lived here five years. I've seen Carl's Jr.'s there, though.
-
i liked hardees before the merger with carl's junior, now i dont much care for them anymore :(
-
I worked at Hardee's in Ogden from 1994-1996, till I finished school, got a job, and moved.
The same guy owned all the Hardees in Utah 20 some stores I think and 2 or so in Idaho. He sold them
all in 1997 or 1998. The one in ogden became a Buger King.
Any way My favotie bugers here in AZ:
Fudrukers
In and Out
Whataburger
Carls Jr.
-
There are a bunch of seniors at my school who go to Five Guys every Thursday (or something like that).
-
I went to Five Guys a couple weeks ago. I was kinda underwhelmed. I paid $9 for a pretty good burger and some crappy fries. If I ever go again, I'm skipping the fries for sure. The burger (double stacked it turns out) was enough food without them.
-
You didn't like the fries? I'm...astonished.
-
Well, maybe the Cajun fries are better. I didn't see them on the menu.
The thing about me and fries is that I don't like the plain sorts. McDonald's vaunted fries make me yawn. Give me Arby's curly fries, or Red Robin steak fries. I'd thought that (based on this forum) maybe Five Guys would have some magic process to make plain fries somehow less than ordinary, and I went away disappointed.
-
I used to love Whataburger but they shut down in Cali. I remember being 8 or 9 and going there with my dad to get a Whataburger (7" in diameter with a bun to match) with cheese and a whole pickled Jalapenio the size of my hand. Saturday tradition.
-
McDonalds has vaunted fries? I'm not sure we live in the same universe.
-

Well, *I* don't like them. But whenever the topic of McDonald's comes up and I mention how atrocious it is, people always say, "...they have good fries, though."
You know who has good fries? Good Times. Too bad they don't exist in Utah (they're a Colorado thing, but they seem to be spreading).
-
Jack in the box has pretty good fries. Strangely, I miss the old processed potato sticks that Carl's Jr. used to have.
-
People like McDonald's fries because they have sugar on them...
-
BK fries for me. 9 times out of 10 McD fries nearly kill me.
And 5-guys fries are pretty good too. Like the fact that they're "real" potatoes. Just went there for the first time last friday and was pretty impressed. A bit expensive for a fast food joint (thought it was a sit-down place at first with menus and such, before I got corrected by a friend early last week) but on the whole, I think it was a good experience. I'd go back anyhow.
-
I like McD.'s milkshakes and fries; but I've only had them 3 or 4 times in my life (fortunately).
-
Really my favorite burger has got to be Steak-n-shake. They have great malts too. Just wish they'd cross The Great Divide.
-
Eugh. I don't like Steak-n-Shake at all. Very little meat and weird stringy fries. Last time I ate there was while my keys were locked in the car 60 miles from home and I was waiting for the AAA guy to arrive. Also, I had just gotten a ticket for an illegal U-turn while trying to get out of a freeway entrance left-turn lane.
Plus I don't eat shakes, so...
-
Ook you should post that in the Grumpiness thread.
-
It was 7 years ago.
-
I went to this place called Island Burger it kinda blew
-
It was 7 years ago.
So?
-
So, the grumpy thread is for things that happened very recently.
-
Really? Do you mind showing me where that is in the rulebook?
-
You're going to have to take my word for it that that's the way it has been on this forum for the last four years. If you like, you can read from the beginning: http://www.timewastersguide.com/forum/index.php?topic=486.0 All the posts are about very recent occurences, mostly what the poster is feeling right then. "If you're feeling grumpy, bitter, angry, whatever, post about it here."
-
Normally I would say I'm not going to 'take your word for it' and continue this further; but I'm gonna let it drop. Would you like me to delete the posts about this?
-
I think you need a hamburger Shags. Too much stress over finals and not enough protein makes one cranky without realizing it. Too much stress over editing a friend's book or working for a personal friend for that matter can make one grumpy as well.
I prescribe hamburgers all round. :P
