yep, it's official.  November 19th for a price of $250 that includes a copy of Wii Sports.

Here's other info (from joystiq):

Games will cost roughly $49.99.

Virtual console games will be $5 for NES, $8 for SNES, $10 for N64. Super Mario 64, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda at launch.

Thirty titles in U.S. by year's end, about half at launch. Launch games include (compiled from

So I've got my pre-order in for both a Wii and Zelda at FYE.

I'm not in their first rung, but I'm the first person in the second group which isn't bad since I could still get it a launch since they don't know what their final allocation is yet for launch.

Good luck.  I'm going to have to wait until Christmas.  Sigh.

Here's an annoyance, the Wii doesn't come with the numchuck attachment used in lots of the games so you have to pick that up for an additional $20, a new wiimote is $40.  Also the Wii no longer plays DVD movies.

I thought I read somewhere the box comes with the nunchuck attachment?

In Gamespot's blog of the announcement, they said it included the nunchuck.  I can't find a more official statement, though.

Yep, Ent was right, from Joystiq, this is what ever country is getting in the big white box:

Wii Console (white)
Wii Remote with strap
Nunchuk
Wii AC Adapter
Wii Stereo AV Cable
Wii Stand
Wii Stand Plate
Wii Sensor Bar
Sensor Bar Stand
2x AA Batteries
Wii Sports (not included in Japan)

Here;s a full list of what the costs are per region and games lists, http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/15/the-only-wii-post-youll-ever-need/

I find it funny that Japan doesn't get the bundled game and it's getting less games in the launch window the any other regions.

I haven't bought a console since the original Nintendo, and I am seriously considering buying one of these. (Though maybe when the price drops in the spring.)

I bet you they'll probably do a price drop next fall, the Wii will be profitable from day one for Nintendo so once the cost of the new hardware goes down you'll see the system go down.

The DS has already Dropped $80 in only about 2 years.

Wait so do you play gamecube games with the remote or the controller.  I also heard somewhere you can buy an attachment for gamecube controllers.

No need for an adapter, the Wii has 4 gamecube controller ports in it for when you play gamecube games in it.

So it looks like I won't get my Wii on Sunday after all, FYE only got 10 in for that day. Might see if I can cancel it since I will be in NYC when my Wii does come in.

Go to a Target. They seem to be getting plenty's in. Around 20+ for each store. At least in my district. My store will, as stated in the internet "website" that we'll be getting about 40 of them.

Wii Impressions:

It's small, much smaller then I thought especially the controller.  I spent probably about an hour just setting it up, had to get it to work with my router's security, download updates and do some other things.    Several of the channels aren't up yet (weather, news, Internet) but you can download games right now, haven't done so since I don't have the spare cash to buy any VC games right now.

Wii Sports is quite fun, except baseball which I loath, boxing is probably my favorite it's like mike Tyson's to an extent but to punch you use the controller and nunchuck and you can dodge too.  It's quite the workout, a few games and you'll fell like you were at the gym.  The other games are fun, Bowling is as good as everyone says it really does kind of feel like you're actually bowling.

Zelda: Like some people have said, the Wii controls feal tacked on, which they are, but you get use to them quick enough.  Shaking the wiimote to attack work's well when actually in combat but feels odd when swinging the sword to destroy scenery.  But using the analog controller on the nunchuck actually feels more natural then your standard controller, it's more relaxing to have your hands to your side then close together to play. Aside from that it's a very beautiful game from the textures down to the animations, very well made.  It's no PS3 graphics, but I wasn't expecting that.

Trauma Center (had to buy 2 games with my Wii): Haven't had a chance to play yet.

I'm not surprised, given the kind of effort it took to beat Bubba by a mere two points. :P

But, to be fair, I'm extremely sore too. Probably from the three boxing matches.

I'm considering getting one, do any of you guys know if you can get a controller for cheaper than $60?  That's outrageous, and you need the nunchuck for a lot of games... seems like it's not worth my money if I'll need to pay nearly the amount the console cost me to play with four people once smash comes out.
Title: Re: Wii November 19th
Post by: Spriggan on November 24, 2006, 12:27:30 AM
a) Smash uses the GameCube controller as far as anyone knows (at E3 Nintendo said no Wiimote for it was planned but that could change) and those are like $10 on e-bay.
b) Nope, it's $60 and I doubt you'll see that drop any time soon.
c) Both PS3 and 360 controllers are $50 so it's not like the Wii's are much more expensive.  Due to bluetooth and such controllers are just more expensive then before, wireless isn't as cheap.

I'm hoping they release A Link to the Past sometime as one of the virtual console games, although I didn't see it on your list, Spriggan. (I've been playing my Ocarina of Time again, while waiting hopefully for an Xmas Wii and Twilight Princess.)

(When the Wii came to our office, it got everybody out of the cubes quicker than the fire alarm does.)

I'm sure that it will, Reggie (NOA's president) said that for US virtual console releases that they're waiting to release the popular games (like the marios and other zeldas) when there are droughts in good wii games so I it might be a while until you do.  Of course you could do what I did and just buy it for the GBA for like $10 used and play it on a DS.

There was a letter to the editor about the Wii in the Daily Universe. Go to http://newsnet.byu.edu/story.cfm/62404 and then scroll down to the letter entitled, "The Problem With Video Games." I think you'll find it interesting  :P

Yea! Letters to the BYU Newspaper editors!  Where's Mustard when you need him to ridicule someone (this is a favorite subject of his)?

Quote
This will give them delusions of grandeur and they will incorrectly assume that they will have the same success with real swords. So, instead of running when ninjas attack, like most normal people do, they will stay, fight and ultimately lose.

Man that's funny. Sad thing is, since it's the BYU newspaper, I have no idea if this person is serious or just joking.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking when I read the letter entitled, "Why Recycle?" It talks about how the only reason to recycle paper is to make yourself feel better. After all, trees grow back in 30 years, so it doesn't help the environment to recycle paper. As I am reading this I'm just like, "Is this guy serious?" It just seems so ridiculous.

Supposedly Wii is fun for the whole family (http://videogames.yahoo.com/ongoingfeature?eid=498032&page=0).

This article makes me want to try it out, even more so than I already did.

So i'm posting this with my Wii via it's browser.  Don't care for it's zoom function, the page is either too small or too large (it looks like a browser on a cells phone in zoom, so every thing is cramed together vertically).  the browser has a nice auto speller much like Blackberries though.

edit: just found a zoom that doesn't rearrange the page, so yea .

I got to play a little Wii at my husband's aunt's house and I found it quite fun. I played tennis on Wii Sports. I wish I could convince my husband that we should get that game system next, but instead he's looking at the 360 or PS3. He says he doesn't want to have to move around to play. That's what I like about it. It's different.
Title: Re: Wii November 19th
Post by: Spriggan on January 04, 2007, 05:15:19 PM
You don't have to move around to play they wii either (all the games can be done with simple wrist flicks that require no effort at all) but it's that you can move around that makes it cool.

Wii is the greatest!!

We got one of them, Like Spriggan said, most people don't realize most games can be played while sitting and just require slight flicks, the tennis game does not check for power of swing. only timing. So you can swing super super light and hit it far. OF course others, like baseball, do check your power so it is best to stand.

I am a big fan of Monkey Ball and Zelda right now.. Looking forward to battalion wars.

Post by: Spriggan on January 30, 2007, 05:47:59 AM
Eh, I can hit homeruns just about everytime with just a flick of the wrist, it's actually easier in some regaurds to do it that way then a traditional swing, but not nearly as fun.

I have played Wii, xbox 360, and ps3.  Nintendo was just as fun as the other two, which are a lot more expensive.  An extra paddle for them is like $50, and a game is $60.  Neither of them upcovert dvds like they were supposed to.  360 and ps3 are actually kind of disappointing.
Title: Re: Wii November 19th
Post by: FirstMateJack on January 30, 2007, 05:52:40 PM
I've played the 360 a few times.. but only the demo for the PS3 that is in the stores.

I will probably grab a PS3 when I get a really nice HDTV in a few years. but until then... I won't touch it unless someone I know invites me over for a game.

I think Nintendo is easily going to dominate this generation of systems, nice change from the Gamecube.
Title: Re: Wii November 19th
Post by: Spriggan on January 30, 2007, 05:57:58 PM
The 360 is quite nice, especially with the on-line componet which Nintendo pretty much dropped the ball on with the Wii (no on-line games until the summer in the US, and it still uses the DS's friend code system).  I think the PS3 would be a contender after a pricedrop but they're really going to have to play catchup to the other two.
