In my family, all rabid Heinlein fans, we divide his work into two phases, before and after he turned into a dirty old man.

Most of his stuff was done before.

I actually enjoy this book, and I don't know why.  I need to buy a copy.  It's so long.  And Heinlein writes terrible endings.  Yet all my favorite Heinlein books are the ones with the worst endings!  (Like this one, and my super-fave, Citizen of the Galaxy.)

There must be something wrong with me.

I loved the ending, it just fits well.

It does! I totally agree.  But his endings have a tendency to not be very... well, endy. Which I happen  to like.

yeah, Stranger in a strange Land had an endy end. But even Starship Troopers just kinda... stopped.

Double Star was a great book. One of the first sci-fi books my sister read to me, even before Star Trek books.
