WATCH (world against toys causing harm)
« on: November 18, 2003, 08:57:29 PM »
Ok, I shouldn't hate these guys, after all they have a noble purpose... but their top 10 toylist is a bit overprotective http://www.toysafety.org/worstToyList_index.html...
Whats more the group hates big wheels and violent toys.... and slingshots... who could hate slingshots!!!

I could hate slingshots if my kid or worse- someone else's kid hurt me with one.  Sorry, slingshots are out.  But Bigwheels seem odd-  Some people are just militant about everything.

the argument is that bigwheels are too low to the ground and arn't easy to see by cars.

Bigwheels are cool.  My grandparents had a bird named E.T. that could imitate the sound bigwheels make on pavement.  It was very cool.  He was good at it!

I had a slingshot--actually, the 'cooler' wrist-rocket version--when I was a kid.  I thought it was just about the most awesome thing I'd ever owned.

The problem was, there wasn't ever really anything to shoot it at--at least, not something I wouldn't injure or break.  Having a conscious sense of morality really ruined that toy for me....

I had a slingshot and never had a derth of things to shoot at, I made rock piles, shot at cans, and Gi-Joes.... I got pretty good too. I never got tired of it.

hehe the second one on that list (the yo yo ball) reminded me of "Super Happy Fun Ball" when I first read the warnings.  That list is huge.
Screw it, I'm buying crayons and paper. I can imagineer my own adventures! Wheeee!

The problem with the slingshot was it was TOO powerful.  If I shot it in the backyard, and missed, I ended up putting holes in houses and fences.

You know what this says to me? This says, "Toys that are dangerous only if you are too lazy to teach your children simple disapline." Obviously you should let your kid drive their big wheel in the street. . . ., etc and so forth.
