Conference weekend
« on: September 21, 2005, 09:48:31 PM »
I figured that perhaps not everyone reads Site News and that I should put something here instead, since I only saw two people reply to my other post. This is what I said there:

Quote

Okay, so I'll be in Salt Lake for Conference weekend--Friday morning (a week from this Friday) through Monday morning. I've got Friday lunch booked already, as is Saturday night. I'll be up in Salt Lake for pretty much all the sessions of Conference. So, that leaves Friday night or Sunday night--or, if you all insist, Saturday between sessions, but that becomes more complicated--to hang out with you lot.

I'm thinking that since we enjoyed learning Magic from EUOL when he was up here, and I've since heard that Fell has prepared a Very Special Deck, a game of Magic would be in order. I can bring some cards as well, either for a draft or just for something fun to do.

So, who wants Friday and who wants Sunday? Where shall it be and what shall we do?

Fell has voted for Friday, playing Magic. Chimera has voted for Sunday. I'm available for either, though I have another old friend who may claim the open night, and I think Friday would probably be a better night for most.

I also would like to play Magic, but if we have a large enough group, we can have other games going on at the same time, too.

And we definitely need a host. And I suggest a potluck dinner rather than eating out. I can bring my grandma's famous chocolate chip cake, as it travels well and always tastes better on the second day anyway.

Thoughts?

Are we set in Salt Lake, or can you come to Provo/Orem?

I'd prefer Friday in Provo I also know EUOL is planning on Friday too.

If it's Sunday I doubt I'd be able to show up, and while I'm not speaking for EUOL I wouldn't be surprised if that day is busy for him being in the Elders Corm Presidency.

I can come to Provo. I'll be driving down, so I'll have my truck. I also talked to Brenna, who is planning on Friday. So we'll say Friday, and just need a place and a time. Fell or EUOL/Tage, either of you willing to host?

Friday is better for me at the moment. My gaming group was thinking about getting together then, but they haven't  made a decision, so TWG get priority.

Sunday might be hard for me as my family often gets together after all the conference sessions.

I have talked to Tage and Stacer, and we have decided the following: 6:30pm  on Friday, September 30, at Tage's house. Please bring:

A potluck food item of some kind, dinner or dessert, I don't care.

A magic deck if you have one. We will also have other games, including the divine Robo Rally.

No children. This pretty much just applies to me.

No Children!

I guess I can't bring Spriggan along then.

Actually, I may have a complication that makes it so I can't go to my Mission Reunion. I have to go to the Choral Performance for my job, and I picked up tickets for Friday night without realizing that was when my reunion was. So I'm thinking now that I won't be able to make it to my Mission Reunion. On the plus side, this means that I could pop my head into the TWG party on Friday night after the performance, which will probably be over around 9:30.

How late do you think you will go? Where are you having this shindig? I'd like to play Magic again, and to see Stacer.

See Fell's post above. Home of Tage and EUOL, 6:30, potluck. Not sure how late it will go, but as these things often do, probably a while.

So, we have: Fell, Mrs. Fell, Tage, EUOL, 42, Sprig, me, MsFish, and Chimera possibly later. What about Skar, Kije, and Prometheus? Haven't seen Kije or Prom around here in a while, actually. Did he move away and I just forgot?

Brenna has since said she can't make it after all, so we will miss her, but I'll see her later in the weekend. My old roommate Fiona, who many of you know, may be coming along with me (I hope). Seeing as how I'm staying with her, I really hope she calls me this week--she moved to her new apartment in Salt Lake last weekend and forgot to give me the new number. Whoops!

Am I missing anyone? Assuming the presence of anyone that hasn't actually confirmed? :) Aw, just show up one way or the other, I suppose.

Prometheus isn't a given since we have yet to talk to him (unless Fell got a hold of him via WoW), 42 is going to e-mail him some time this week if he hasn't already.  Dono about Kije, he may not have seen this thread yet (while he checks the forum often enough he doesn't read all the threads) though he knows we're planning something this weekend just not when.

There's the possibility of people from 42's gaming group showing up as well, I invited them so they could show up.  42 himself may or may not depending on if he's up(he does work the Friday night-shift).

Also I doubt I'll play magic since I don't care much for the game unless not enough people show up for the draft, but from the looks of it we will.  And if nothing else is going on I'll probably stop in to say hi then leave since watching people play magic isn't all that exciting.

Not sure how long it would go, usually the drafts we do run about 2 hours and if you add dinner into that I'm sure plenty of people will be there around 9:30ish though the draft will be over and some people will have left.

Sprig, some people will be playing RoboRally or other games, too. So, hopefully there'll be something there to interest you.

I talked to Prometheus this weekend, and he's planning on coming. Also, we're looking at doing normal constructed magic for this thing, and a draft some other time--that will make it easier for those who don't know the game as well (such as stacer, ms fish, my wife, etc.).
