What do you mean by steel? Sai, katana, tonfas, kamas, or nunchucks?

None of the above.  It's a longsword.

I just love being told I'm crazy. =/

Ah, how easy it is to get sidetracked...

You know, over 1% of the population is autistic, according to a commercial I saw the other night.  I think that means that every mainstream fantasy movie is obligated to include an autistic character.

Yeah, don't worry about whether or not you can draw—I certainly can't.

However, the more you learn about geography, climate, etc., the more realistic your world will be, and the more natural the stories which take place in it will be; your own knowledge will naturally affect your worldbuilding.  However, if it becomes a chore, don't worry about it—I find the entire process enjoyable, myself.

I should mention that there are two approaches to worldbuilding—the Tolkienesque approach, where you create a single, intricate, well-developed world, and the Brandon Sanderson (and probably many other authors who have preceded him) approach, where you simply worldbuild as much as you need to move your story along and flesh out some details.  While the Tolkienesque approach will leave you with a richer world, the Sandersonian approach is advantageous in that you aren't putting all your eggs in one basket, and you can move from setting to setting as you see fit.

I saw this about a week ago.  It marks the first time I've ever been particularly interested in Star Trek, though I've seen several Next Generation Episodes, lots of Voyageur, the occasional OST and DSN and several of the films.

So, I liked the film.  I think it's an improvement, generally, in the franchise.  I've actually started going through and watching OST because the new film has finally piqued my curiosity somewhat.

Lots of Chinese stuff.  Can't pronounce the names well enough to type them up without great effort (which I will eventually, but have not yet, engaged in).

In theory, Swahili uses infixes, though this really depends on your definition of infixes.  Additionally, many languages, Old English and Welsh included, use vowel changes to decline nouns.  This is somewhat similar to infixes.

Our little Martial Arts group is growing, and we're gaining more equipment.  I love my steel.

I'm not convinced that it's an elaborate satire... but it is pretty lame.

Homosexuals need to understand that homosexuality, inasmuch as 98% (give or take) of the population do not engage in it, will never be mainstream.

It's one thing to expect blacks or hispanics to show up in the media.  It's another to expect mainstream television shows to include Tajiks because they simply happen to be a minority.  Assuming alternative sexualities are as innate as ethnicity (a much debated issue), whining about lack of representation seems just as silly.

I love my job, but the hours interfere with a lot of other things (like getting together with people), and particularly with prime martial arts time...

I disliked the second and hated the third.  I'm not sure if I'd even going to want to rent the fourth...

...or was it that I hated the second and disliked the third?  Hard to remember now.

Rants and Stuff / Re: What's your favorite wintertime holiday?
« on: December 08, 2009, 05:58:44 AM »

Yule is the Pagan holiday that celebrates the winter solstice.

Whereas Christmas was originally based on Yule, before it was changed, they are now very different holidays.

Bah, they're the same to me!  I mean, I'm a Christian but I light up my tree and put greenery around the house and all...

I had a middle aged guy almost run me over and when i yelled at him he got out and preceded to threaten me. My response went something like this, "My father is a well respected lawyer so if you touch me you better tell your wife bye, because you will become well acquainted with a cell." he called me a pussy and got into his truck.

This is why it's good to know HEMA.  Just in case his father is a well respected lawyer, too.

Necroben and Monsta better get in a duel soon, or I'll be sadly forced to drop them from the rankings...
