depends on the position, IMO. Senate, you're probably right, can't muck up too much in 2 years, though.

That was what I meant....

Oh, well, sorry for the misunderstanding, then :P

....especially with the Dems having the majority...

I take it you're republican, then, since this sounds like a stab at the democrats?  Note that it doesn't really matter to me, just curious, as I'm one of the proverbial "Swing voters". I vote for whoever has the most policies I agree with, dem or rep.

It's even better at the end of the article....The last governor is in prison, and this guy said he'd do better....LIES! :D

And I know about that amendment. I believe that the person would come up for re-election in the next election. A little under two years isn't time enough to do a whole lot, politically.

I live in Chicago and it's quite ridiculous how corrupt the politics are out here. We are now going to have two governors heading to the big house with Ryan the first and now Blagojevich.

I say we just go with the old "three strikes, you're out" rule. 1 more and illinois is no longer part of the US and is it's own country! (kidding, obviously :P )

Honestly, I'm not surprised about this, though. He always struck me as an untrusworthy guy. (as i mentioned prior, being pretty literally right on the border between two states gets both states politics coming at my face in full force. For those wondering, I live in a suburban are just outside St. Louis, called O'fallon.)

That is one unintelligent governor....Still. I think it's hilarious he tried to sell the seat. Horrible, yes. Corrupt, yes. But hilarious....And how would that work? It's the people who vote, so anyone the gov appoints wouldn't really last long enough to do a whole lot if the constituents didn't like them....

Actually, the 17th amendment give the governor the ability to appoint someone to the senate if a sudden vacancy becomes available before the current senator's term limit ends, until an election is held for that position. I'd always assumed the person fills the role until the next election (could be wrong on this, as I have no proof), and the Illinois election JUST happened on nov. 4th (i live 20 minutes from Illinois, so i get all the news for elections from there locally), and obama resigned from the position on the 16th, so anyone who got put in now would still have a full term ahead of them.

i currently use a palm Centro, which is a palm (duh) powered smartphone on the low end of the spectrum. I know it can do word documents (and e-books!), but i'm not sure about PDFs, never tried.

Notes are certainly there, i use them all the time (as well as scheduling on the calendar)

database of contacts is very yes, including home, cell, and work numbers, addresses, emails, contact photo, etc. And of course you only have to put in what you want.

Has solitare. I also got a small, old-schoolesque dungeon crawl (think dungeon master, or eye of the beholder) on there called pocket dimension 2 from here which if i remember correctly was free.

Quick connectivity is certain through USB, and i actually really like palm's system. It's pretty much plug it in, and click the button on the cable, and it does the rest.

Screen is touch screen and color.

In the scheme of things, it's kinda lame when it comes to online stuff, as palm is getting very dated, so it's not an uber phone deal that does all that stuff all the other things do. It's also cheap. Mine was free from verizon.

If you dont want a new phone because you dont want a phone plan, you can probably find some old, unlocked models that the centro is essentially an upgrade from. I would recommend the treo 650, that was my old phone, and does everything my current one does, just on crappier hardware (and it was bigger. Sadly, though, it had MUCH better battery life, which i hate :( )

It also works great as an MP3 player if you buy an SD card to put music on.

Books / Re: What are you reading, part 3
« on: December 05, 2008, 02:52:49 PM »
The Prose Edda by Snorri Sturlson, a translation obviously, since the original was written in the early 1100's or so and is in old norse.

I highly reccomend it if you like norse (viking) mythology. It's a pretty good primer, from the creation of the gods, to their role, to tales of their exploits, all they way up to ragnarok.

i could totally go for some rings that have the symbols of the metals and/or the metals wheel from the back of the book. :o

Of course, i'm biased, as the only jewelry i wear is rings.

Got an associates of software engineering here, finished college at the age of 20, and have been in the field ever since. Someday I would like to go back and get something higher, when i get the time.

i don't have a problem with someone who objects on things from a moral stand point (i.e. if you dislike harry potter because of the message it sends, OK, that's fine). i do, however, hate when certain people/groups distort things beyond the actual issue, either out of ignorance, or a desire to rally support. Sort of like the previously mentioned Jack Chick's "Dark Dungeons" which has a heavily distorted perspective on roleplaying games in general, and has refused to even listen to complaints of how it is horrendously wrong

Yeah, I know before HoA it was the current theory, as I think a few characters talked about it in TWA, didn't they?

And you're right. It was clarified in the epigraphs by sazed, i'm like 99.99% sure of it. (always that fraction of a doubt :P )

there's also an error under "well of ascension"

Well of Ascension
The Well of Ascension fills with liquid every 1,000 years. The person who enters the Well absorbs the liquid and is temporarily granted god-like power. The Lord-Ruler did so and completely reshaped the world as well as created at least 2 races. It's also possible that he created Allomancy and Hemalurgy, as these were unknown prior to that time.
