Title: Vintage Superman
Post by: Eagle Prince on February 07, 2005, 06:12:16 AM
Up in the sky, look!  Its a bird!  Its a plane!  Its... SUPERMAN!

Faster than a speeding bullet.  More powerful than a locomotive.  Able to soar higher than any plane, this amazing stranger from the planet Krypton, the Man Of Steel--Superman!

Possessing remarkable physical strength, Superman fights a neverending battle for truth and justice.  Disguised as a mild mannered newspaper reporter, Clark Kent.

This is a cartoon series from the eary forties about Supes.  Well they have these $1 dvds at Wal-Mart of all sorts of old and low-budget movies, and they have these among them.  I got them awhile ago, but just thought about posting while rewatching them.  So if you are into Supes and haven't got them yet, might want to see if you can find a copy.  There is like 17 episodes altogether and split into two dvds... but that is only like 2 bucks for all of them.  They're also pretty cool to watch, if you like vintage movies and such (like me).

dude, I will send you $5 if you can get me the second volume. I saw those all in early december and I got the first one (where the first episode says "featuring the mad scientist") but I never saw another one.

It is the DVD I've put in my A+ toolkit (my professor pointing out it's good to always have one so you can test out the dvd drive).

We bought the first and second groups on DVD. My kids watched the first disc to death, but the Lost Episodes DVD was mostly WWII episodes where they portray the Japanese in a really bogoted way--and so I've discouraged my impressionable kids from watching them.

But if you like to watch Superman do major sabotage during WWII, it's fun.

Yup. That's the guy.

And the DVDs we have are sound remastered so all the booms are in stereo.

I have boys. Can you tell?

I thought the phrase went "Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound." Then again, I don't think anyone could mistake me for an expert on Superman.

It does, it gets changed up throughout the series.  The later ones go something like:

Faster than a streak of lightning, more powerful than the pounding surf, mightier than a roaring hurricane, this amazing stranger from the planet Krypton, the Man Of Steel- Superman!

The first one where he used X-Ray vision added in that to the monologue. It was modular. We just remember the most important bits.

When I read that, in my head I hear the "Let's Get Ready to Ruuuuumble!" guy's voice doing it.
