That sounds about right. I think that makes the most sense of anything we've said so far....

Honestly, I don't really think he cares about the ultimate victory. He just wants to convert the Dragon because the Dragon is the only one who can beat him. Then he wins and destroys the wheel and lives happily ever after.

Well, just a thought, but when you're building things, you don't sit there and say, "It has to be 100% steel." It doesn't really matter if there are more than one metal. I still don't agree with it, but indeed, nice theory. I just don't see a real need for it in the plot, so why complicate things?

Kelsier could have taken the scenic route.  Or possibly, keep venture is northeast of camon's lair. There are ways to make that work.

Well, if we're going to get all technical about it, the oaths can't be broken until removed, which makes them no longer oaths. And the oaths really don't create a false sense of security, as they are so easily gotten around...

Also, this thread is about the ashmounts, remember? We moved from ash to plants to mist to aes sedai to elantris. I vote we move back a few steps.  Is it possible that plants aren't green due to ash blocking light spectrums from entering? Say there is LESS green light getting through....this would mean that there is less green light to reflect, and therefore they would be able to appear more br0wnish? The ones that get more green light are yellowish, so this kind of makes sense...

Good points, guys, but could we include our thoughts on the epigraph as well? We seem to be getting a little sidetracked here....

No matter how good your reaction time is, you're still not going to be able to move quickly enough to get out of the way. Even if you are ridiculously fast to begin with and burning pewter, half a second isn't enough time to completely move. Even if you know what's coming. Ookla, channelers don't have to train themselves to control their emotions, they have to learn to not let them show and to not let them affect their actions.

Anyway, back to original topic, if you were to wrap them up in air before you BF'd them, they couldn't react. Yes, yes, I know, the medallion...so use earth and build a stone wall around them (and above) then you bf them. Regardless of what a mistborn could do, a channeler would win. The mistborn could hold his/her own for a bit, but they would eventually lose. What it comes down to is that a mistborn can't attack effectively from a distance (coins don't count, their too easy to block with air). A Channeler can, and mistborn really couldn't defend themselves against it.

So What? You can see the huge white bar of liquid fire flying toward you at 10 million miles per hour? Why would that even matter? You see it, then a half second later your dead. You have no reaction time. There is an ongoing discussion as to whether balefire would affect someone wearing mat's medallion, but either way, hit them with lightning, their dead.

Well, emotional allomancy is only influencing emotions, not controlling them, and thats only as long as the affected doesn't know about it. The sensitivity of a channeler when wielding the Power would make them aware of something affecting them, and they'd fairly quickly start taking measures against.

I do agree that while they are very superior in a head to head battle, a Mistborn could whoop up on a channeler assuming that they could sneak up on them. Mistborn are creatures of stealth and shadow, channelers are blatant and powerful.

Actually, I would say that a Mistborn is controlling emotions, just not the person themself. Think about it, they can make them feel whatever they want, they just can't control how they react to that emotion. They can PREDICT it, but not control it.

Read the quote again, darx, and you see that Brandon says ANY allomancer with access to steel or iron could learn how if they tried. That means little weak mistings who can only burn iron as well as full mistborn. It's not in the power, it's in the control they have over their metal. There is some trick to it. This is why vin doesn't go into matrix vision as you called it. She could see the lines to the bracers because she was powerful enough to pull on them, the blood didn't block it anymore. Seeing trace metals as the inquisitors do would not require power, just skill.

Avalon, your theory makes sense to me, though I still feel it is too similar to allomancy and feruchemy. Brandon has emphasizes multiple times that hemalurgy is its own magic system.

I did just notice though....Brandon says earlier in his MB1 annotations that only very powerful allomancers could pull on metals inside someone's body. This seems to conflict with the quote I gave. Any ideas on how they can both be true? Or did Brandon mess up (yes, I know, blasphemy)?

I suppose it's possible. My initial guess would be he built spires because.....he liked them! I don't see how this would work as being hemalurgy. I suppose that it is possible, Coma, but I doubt it.

I've changed my stance. Inquisitors use allomancy. The previously mentioned quote did it, along with this one. I was never really sure to begin with. However, I think that Inquisitors use hemalurgy to do other things (like heal fast) that we haven't seen yet. Anyway, Brandon's MB2 annotations, chapter twelve:

Quote
By the way, you probably remember form book one the way that Inquisitors see. They have such a subtle touch with Steel and Iron, and their lines, that they can see via the trace metals in everyone's bodies and in the objects around them.

The thing is, any Allomancer with access to iron or steel could learn to do this. Some have figured it out, in the past, but in current times, nobody--at least, nobody the heroes know--is aware of this. Except, of course, for Marsh.

And he chose not to share it.

So this actually implies that the inquisitors DO burn steel and/or iron to see. From what I gathered, Marsh could share this with anyone who could burn steel or iron. Implying that he burns steel and iron to know how to do it in the first place.

I think that strange refers to the nails, not the metal. It could be any metal for all we know. Hurray for speculation!

My one thing, Vintage, is that the mist spirit cannot for sure use allomancy. It possibly could, as vin feels it giving pulses when burning bronze, but she is unable to determine what metal it is. This makes me think that is just more of an allomancy-mists connection.

I think we need help. Major, very expensive psychiatric therapy.

Agreed totally.

This was a new find for me. MB1 Annotations, prologue part 1

Quote
Somewhere in the italicized pre-chapter blurb of the prologue here is the clue one needs to figure out the over-arching mystery of the entire series. If you figure it out, good for you! If you don't, you'll have to wait until the last chapter of the final book to get it explained. . . .

So what I found may or may not have any relation to this, but what does everyone think is the important phrase? And, yes chaos, I don't really know what inspired this topic. It all made sense yesterday....
