I refuse to discuss the six clock issue, except to say that, as far as this movie is concerned, I've seen it 9 times now, and and I will see it at least three or four more times. For me, it transcended the experience of merely being a movie. I got lost in it (9 times) in a way I don't get lost in movies any more. Modern movies don't take me anywhere magical anymore - SPEED RACER was one of those movies that honestly made me question why I even go see movies, and it wasn't even the worst I've seen this year, and doesn't come close to the worst I saw last year ("NEXT."). Indy reminded me of why I love movies, and it takes me a place that is truly wonderous. .  So my six clocks still stand, though I knew that many would disagree, and I am osrry if I raised anyone's expectations too high - but for me to rate it lower would be like lying.

As far as the "no way" moments, one of the two that everyone out there is making a big deal about, I just don't get the problem. I'll just say that it's the one involving Mutt in the jungle, and I FREAKING LOVED IT! it was fun. It was a salute to the classic serials - which is THE WHOLE POINT OF THE ENTIRE FRANCHISE.

Oh, well. To each they're own.  But I stand by the review.

I liked prince Caspian. I felt like they didn't try to make at all 'family friendly" as much as they did in the first one--which I'm glad for. The battles and action sequences were done so much better. The characters weren't as interesting as they were in the first movie, though. Peter was so whinny, and you barely even see Edmund, poor guy got the shaft.

See, Edmund was my favorite part of this one. True, he had no major character arc like he did in thre last one, but he had some great indiviual moments - like the bit with the Witch, and my favorite line, which came straight from the book, about the last time he didn't believe Lucy.

Well, having been pilloried for my opinions about the first of the current narnia installments (as well as, admittedly, my smug and insultingly condescending attitude about the same)  I hesitate to voice my opinion on this one. But here goes.

I bloody loved it.  It was great.  I haven't read the book in some time so I was free from any angst over departures.  The actors, this time, did a fine job.  The CGI was incredible.  The plot was coherent and not impeded by stupid things.  The fighting was good to watch instead of painful.  The "jokes" fit nicely into the context. The "magical moments" were not drawn out past there usefulness. Reepicheep, my favorite character in the books by far, was treated well and not made into a jarjarbinks.  I was incredibly pleased.  Bravo.

Glad you liked this one. I thought it fanstastic.

All I will say about "Indy" is that all of the films were campy, though I admit this one had more of than the last (but not nearly as much as "Temple of Doom." My advice to anyone going to see Indy is that you simply can't get a real opinion of it until you've seen it at least twice. After waiting this long, the first viewing is not going to live up all of your expectations - not even mine. It isn't possible (I am one of the Gibbs Brotehrs, by the way. Thought I would blend in better with a screen name.)

I totally agree about "Reepicheep." I LOVE the character, one of the best in all of the Chronicles. and I was really desperate to see them get him right. And they certainly did.

I've always disliked Prince Caspian the book so when "forced" to see it (Indiana Jones was sold out) I wasn't sure what to expect.  I loved this movie.  It added some action type scenes but I felt that the additions tended to help the movie get away from the things I don't like about the book:  it is boring and they spend too much time squabbling among themselves.  I especially liked the conflict between Peter and Caspian and how that was resolved.

I agree. Personally, I loved the sequence with the White Witch. Edmund was great in this movie.

Sorry, my reply was facetious. I assumed pretty much everyone who visits this forum knows who Brandon Sanderson is, since he's one of the site's founders and his forum is hosted here. But if you just surfed in recently for something else entirely, welcome! (If the Wheel of Time series is something you're familiar with, Brandon was chosen to finish the final book after Robert Jordan's death. News of that brought him quite a few more readers, some of whom are now analyzing the Mistborn books to death over in his subforum.)

I knew I was missing something. Even after writing on here off and on for a few years, I must confesss that I am  still a bit of an outsider. I'm afraid that, while fantast novels are a particular joy opf mine, I don't do very well at keeping up with the latest authors (the new kids on the blocks to me are still people like Weis and Hickman and J.K. Rowling.)

You haven't heard of EUOL? As in Brandon Sanderson? He wrote a few books that I hear are pretty good. You should check them out. (Plus Howard Tayler writes Schlock Mercenary, but I haven't gotten into that.)

No, I actually haven't. Sorry - I'll look him up on wikipedia.

The only movie I've seen people walk out of, and wanted to walk out of myself, was Peter Jackson's King Kong.  I think about 2 hours into the movie, when they were still on the island, I was half-asleep and about 20-30 people had left.  Jackson's a great director but that movie needed an editor.

I'm glad to see both Howard Taylor and EUOL agree with me on Speed even the part about it being better then Ironman--which shows I'm not completely crazy.

Never heard on either of those people. King Kong was a MASTERPEICE, but I will freely admit that there are plenty of people who were bored by it.  But ROGER FREAKING EBERT AGREES WITH ME.

But "Speed Racer: better than "Iron Man."? Pshaw. It wasn't even as good as the first "Fantastic Four."

You are not crazy, though. You just have a specific tastes, and a different opinion than me or many other people, which is cool. I write what I think on here, and you sahould do the same. It would boring if we all  thought the same way. Nothin' but love for ya, Sprigg. Nothin' but love.

Not for content. They were bored and they thought it was terrible.

Ookla is absolutely right. I don't walk out on movies, but even though I paid $10 bucks, I would have if I wasn't with friends. This is AN ORDEAL to get through. At 2 hours and 15 minutes, it is way too long for not only a kiddie movie, but an exceptionally juvenile one at that. I felt like I needed a tranfusion when it was over.

Gotta say, I saw this movie again last night and it was even better the second time around. My apologies for the weird typos at the end of the review.

Cool. Thanks - I hated to see the "Speed racer" review go to waste.

This does seem to be one of those polarizing films. Two of my fellow editors walked out after half an hour, while another loved it. I'm mildly curious about the movie, but not enough to risk $10 on it.

Itr's definitely a love it or hate it movie - there's no room for middle ground.

Was rather disappointed in this review, I saw Speed Racer over the weekend and think it's the best movie I've seen in quite some time.

I guess it's one of those love it or hate it movies but I loved it and think that it's so much better then IronMan and Price Caspian (both of which I've seen) which were good movies but both were things i've seen so many times and neither tried to do anything different for their genre.

Speed on the other hand was amazing, I'd never seen anything quite like it and could easily watch it several more times while the other movies out this month I'm pretty indifferent towards seeing again.

Well, Sprigg, you are the only one who feels that way, so you shouldn't have trouble finding a seat. And you can even change seats as people get up to walk out (which they certainly did when I saw it, even though people paid 10 bucks a ticket for IMAX.). I will acknowledge that this movie has a vocal cult fanbase. These people are so far in denial, they are in De-Suez.).  But to each his own. Glad you enjoyed it.

I'm surprised this review got posted - I still have a review for "Prince Caspian" (which I loved, and I have seen three times) and "Indiana Jones" coming (seen it once already, and seeing it again  tomorrow.). At this point, "Speed Racer" is so close to leaving theaters it seems a bit redundant to post this. But I had a lot of fun writing the review, so I'm glad it got on here.
