Post by: Entsuropi on April 29, 2003, 11:58:13 AM
In this, the WRGS, i propose that we post links to the cool 40k and fantasy stuff we find. My opener:
The best painted Land Raider ever (http://www.portent.net/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=474&cpage=1&pperpage=10&thecat=&password=#poststart).

Yes, the model is cool. I've just recently become much more bothered by popups. Probably because they suck up bandwidth which is already scarce when you have to be on dialup.

www.panicware.com
they have a free ware pop-up blocker.  It's what I use and gets about 80%, and for free that's pretty good.

Frankly, I don't trust any programs of that sort. Not since I did tech support for Microsoft.

Your choice I just hate Pop-ups that I don't mind the occasional crash (Which I don't even know if this casues), and if your talking about them "monerting" what sites you goto this program dosen't do that.  I've checked it out on websited that list programs like that.

I'm more worried  about the crashing thing. I hate waiting for my computer to start. I usually leave it on 24/7 and only need to restart once a month or so, and that usually due to hardware changes I'm making. Anyway, I've seen programs like this that cause MAJOR stability problems, so I tend to stay away from all of them.

A link nicked from Misfire, which is even more erratic than ever:

Games Day France (http://perso.club-internet.fr/heweb/wargames/gday2003/gdaynews/gdnews.htm)

My favourite is the picture of LoTR elves... the epic scale harridan is nice (the 40k scale one is so big its scary)

That's some cool stuff. I'm not fond of the color scheme, but the beastmen models are awesome. I'm also glad to finally see some plastic Cadians.

Hrm. I cannot say i like that model that much. The colours do not go well together. And the painting, while neat, is not that special... just looks to be a highlighting job.

The Tau do not lend themselves to dark colours - bright, vibrant, ones work better.

Obviously I disagree, or I wouldn't have posted it in the first place. I think the color scheme and the painting job are both great, and I love the missile launcher on top (or whatever that is).

You know what I really love? The new Space Wolf stuff, the Rune Priest especially. Makes me wish I still had the kind of money I used to spend on 40k, so I could go spend it on 40k.

I agree with Fell.  It's a clean simple design and probaly the way it would be painted in real life.  And as for the colors, it's the Tron colors Entropy!  Come on they go great together.

Not really spriggan. Go check out this (http://uk.games-workshop.com/storefront/newimage.asp?Size=A&Img=200012) devilfish.

Its not only nicer, but its more realistic.

And... what the hell is that missile launcher supposed to be? I can only assume it is VDR created - if i could take a MRL on my devilfish, you would be damn sure i would have done so.

First of all, it's not fair to compare a fan's paint job to that of the 'Eavy Metal team. Obviously the guy who paints models for a living is going to be better at painting models.

Second of all, I'm sick to death of that brown color scheme on Tau stuff. Everyone uses it now, and that's silly--the Space Marines are allowed to have multiple color schemes, so why not the Tau?

Third of all, that was a picture of an alien spacecraft. Why are you talking about realism?

Post by: Entsuropi on May 22, 2003, 12:29:02 PM
1) True, but i was comparing the overall scheme, not the level of painting. I was saying they were nicer colours.

2) Er... most Tau models i have seen are anything but brown? I am going to paint mine Ivory as the main colour with black as a contrast. No real reason, it just looks nice i think.

3) Phooey.

Now thats a nice dragon. (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/dragon.htm) Pity about the £125 price tag.

Check out their epic 40k harridan (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/eharridan.htm) as well.

I just want to let everybody know (at least those of you who care) That today I had my first decisive victory with my Daemon Hunter army.   I have been slowly building up this army and I have fought with it several times.  Just over half the time I lost, but when I won my battles it was just by the skin of my teeth. When I lost I just got blown away.  Grey Knights cost 25 points so it doesn't take much to shoot them all to heck.  But I perservered and kept building my army (my birthday and Christmas came in handy for that)  And painted my little dudes.
And my luck, or I would like to blame my stratagy skill, finally improved.  Today I fought my friend's Chaos army and kicked his butt.  It felt so good.

I know you guys probably don't care but I just had to tell people.

And just for Dan and those who have been reading TWG since the begining I beat my friend like a red-headed step child.

Congratulations. Someday, when I buy more paint and glue and finish assembling them, my Space Wolves would be delighted to face your Daemon Hunters. And since I haven't played since Audrey was born (or soon thereafter) I'm sure to add another decisive victory to your record.

I need paint and glue, too.  My tyranid swarm is gonna ROCK.  My hive tyrant alone will have between 800 and 1000 points.  It's insane.  It even has friggin' wings like a harpie, a barbed strangler like a warrior, at minimum a two plus save, and armour, extra hands for movement, what else?  An insane strength...with my one hive tyrant I have decimated three squads of space marine, some firewarriors, two drednaughts and a biker squad.  AT ONE TIME!  I love tyranids with a passion that consumes my soul... Anyway, then he died  :'(, in simulation, of coarse.  I lack enough black paint to finish mine.

I love the new rules for Tyranids.  The only problem with having characters worth so many points, though, comes when you have a limited number of turns.  If you're playing a standard scenario, five turns is about average.  If you have 800 points invested in one guy, instead of spending 800 points on four units, your one expensive guy had better be able to accomplish four times what a smaller unit could.

Sure, no one is ever going to kill him, but will 800 points get mired down in a swarm of 80 point grots for two or three turns, and you fail your objectives?

When playing turn limit and objective games I go for the genestealers who, are relatively cheap, termagaunts and homogaunts, who are utterly annoying, harpies, who are fast and warriors for long distance.  My hive Tyrant sits in the sideline and eats cheese puffs.

I have seen a Hive Tyrant struck down in a single blow by Tigurius, a space marine uber-Librarian type guy. Force weapons are fun...

You havn't seen my mutated freak Hive Tyrant struck down.  Remember when I kicked Brian and AJ's butts using nothing but six warriors and spore mines?  Imagine that, but mix every species of Tyranids' good qualities and make it REALLY REALLY big.  Then watch as it devoures your men like cheese puffs on a saturday morning.

Oh yeah, you weren't there.  Let us just say that it was humiliating for Brian and Aj who had all the boards cover, except one wall about four inches long, six rail drivers, rocket launchers, twice my points in men and three tanks.  VERY EMBARRASING.

Just wait until I buy the Space Wolves commander (which I can put in my army, do to the groovy new space marine's rules that allow me to finally mix SM armies together...). If I roll right, he gets like six STR 8 attacks, with a WS of 9. And, he's nearly impossible to kill. Even for a psychotic Hive Tyrant.
