So, having tried for the last month to find a copy of Alcatraz 3, I've come to the conclusion that either a) Scholastic is being much stricter than usual with the release, or b) my local bookstores suck and just aren't selling it yet. And the local bookstores of all my friends and extended family. So, I'm wondering if anyone else has managed to get their hands on it yet, and if so, where at?
-
I ordered a copy from my local bookstore and haven't received it yet. This is the same bookstore that got me Warbreaker a week early, so I would guess option a.
-
Personally, I have always seemed to find amazon's listed date for a book to be very accurate as to when that book will first be available ... so I am not expecting to see this one until October 1st.
Has anybody else had a different experience?
-
The reason why we're so confused is because for the last two they started popping up a full month ahead of time.
And I've checked around here and none of the bookstores have gotten it in. It's a good thing for EUOL though since that means all the sales will count towards bookscans.
-
Ok, so it's not just me then. That's good to know.
-
b)
The book was already seen in the wild two weeks ago.
-
In the wild where? Anywhere here in Utah? Anywhere I can get a copy...?
-
I know for sure in New York. There have been other reports, not nearby. But it turns out there probably will be a release party around Oct. 1.
-
at the byu bookstore i would assume?
-
I dunno, the last two Al book release parties were at B&N. When should we expect more info?
-
Yeah, not BYU. More news when it gets closer.
-
I can also confirm a sighting at the BYU Bookstore as of today ;D
-
Hey ook, has EUOL started signing any yet, or is he saving that for the release?
-
I don't think he has signed any yet. He will probably wait until that date but I'm not positive.
-
Well, my little sister got a copy from Barnes and Noble here today! So look around again if you've been trying to find it.
-
Well, amazon sent this on its way to me, today. Still won't likely see it until next week because I have the free (slow) shipping, but it has left the warehouse.
-
Ook, any more updates on the rp? I told my little sister about it, and now every day she bugs me about it... I just need something to get her to stop asking.
-
I will ask later today.
-
I got mine today, though my boys grabbed it before I got in the door, so it will be a few days until I get to read it. Please announce a signing. I would love to bring my children.
-
Off topic, but may I say, I miss Ookla ... was a fun name.
-
11 years is a good run. I will still answer to it, so you don't have to stop calling me it.
The release party is Oct 10, 2:00-4:00, Barnes&Noble in Sandy. An announcement will go on the site soon.

On topic: Still searching for a copy at my Borders. They're rapidly vanishing, or just not carried. Not sure which one yet.
Off topic: Ook is no longer Ook?

Bah! Why is it that every time I go down to vegas he does something cool? Still, if I have to choose, I'll be in Vegas every year.
Also, ook, why did you change it?
-
If you look on the shelf and it's not there, go up to the desk and ask them to order it in for you. Don't just hope it will be there the next time you go, because it probably won't be, especially not at Borders.
The site that was hosting my avatar went down. I was going to put the avatar on Brandon's site but didn't like the quality of the old one and couldn't find a new one that was any good. Also, I don't use the name anywhere else now except for Ars Technica and I may change that. I've been using my real name in public communication on messageboards except for this one for at least three years (at animeondvd and animenewsnetwork), and on facebook and twitter. Using real names is what people do nowadays.
Besides, my connection to Ookla the Mok was through the band. I have never actually seen an episode of Thundarr the Barbarian. He's not a nostalgia item that accurately represents me. And naming yourself after your favorite band is starting to seem kind of boring. Even if it is a band that few people know about.

Well, amazon was pretty quick, even with free shipping.
Got book 3 today.
Maybe I will have a chance to read this weekend.
