Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies

1 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 15-ounce can pumpkin
4 cups flour
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 pinch ground nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 cup chocolate chips

Cream together shortening and sugar.  Beat in eggs one at a time.  Stir in vanilla and pumpkin until well blended.  Add dry ingredients.  Mix in chocolate chips.
Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet.  Bake at 375 for 12-15 minutes, until edges begin to brown.

These are very cakey and they disappear fast. I suppose you could probably make them into muffins instead, but I haven't tried that.

German Style String Beans (Sweet and Sour Beans)

1 can string beans
1-2 slices bacon
1 Tablespoons flour
1/4 Cup vinegar
1/2 Cup  juice from beans
1/4 Cup  sugar
1/4 Cup  diced onion

Brown bacon and drain the grease, but leave 1/4 cup. Put flour in grease. Stir to thickness. Add vinegar, bean juice, and sugar. Stir. Add beans and onions and simmer for 1/2 hour.  I often leave in the bacon and add almond slivers to fancy it up. It's different, and very tasty.

I thought the thesarus was my best friend, but I think it was actually my worst enemy.

You weren't the only high schooler to suffer from this affliction. I often grade papers for my mother-in-law who teaches high school English classes, and it's hilarious. It's pretty obvious that they use a thesarus because their fancy vocab words are often mis-used. I wish I had some with me so I could give examples. Next batch I get I'll post some.

I don't know how much SE plans on reading, but I can read as much as you'll give me. It's up to you.

Congratulations!

You should feel accomplished.

Thanks, Jade. It's about the same sense of accomplisment I had giving birth three times (twice without meds!). You have no choice in the matter, but you're happy when it's over.

It appears that Jade is his own worst enemy.

Jade, for you, I think it has less to do with stupidity than frustration with your story. But you have to be motivated! I mean, I need it in two weeks to read it, right?

It took me until the beginning of book 5 to get them all straight. That's wayyyy too long. Sure they were all different and distinct, but it was still too many different and distinct countries/people.

But then, being a tech writer, I'm the kind of person who likes to oversimplify. Too many superfluous details gets me all mixed up.

Eragon is certainly less confusing than Eddings' Belgariad, which I thought had way too many people and countries to keep track of. But Eragon is definitely YA, it's less sophisticated than Eddings. Which makes sense, considering how it was written by a kid.

Eragon (Paolini) is a rip off of Eddings. Much more so than Elantris. All those things I mentioned occur in each book, but the Belgariad was written 25 years before Eragon.

Technically I'm not doing NaNo this year, but I had to share...

I've made it to 40,000 words. Horray!

That is all.

In the Belgariad...

The main character was a farmboy, who was fifteen, with a white/silver scar on his palm, who went on a long journey with an old man who at first appeared to be a simple bard...

Ummm...no wait, that was in Eragon.
