Brandon Sanderson / Re: The Mistborn Trilogy. *Spoilers*
« on: November 13, 2008, 08:23:31 AM »
I really liked Final Empire, I think because of the "newness", the originality of allomancy as magic, the imagery of the red-and-ash world. It was just a really fun read.

I loved WoA, because it reminds us that just because you get rid of the bad guy doesn't mean all the troubles are over. I love how even though it's fantasy, what happens in the book is so real. The head bad guy falls, everyone and their dog makes a play for all the power, the general population suffers and starts thinking that maybe it wasn't so bad before becasue it's worse now. Most countries are like that after a war or revolution. BS really knows his history when it comes to these things.

Do you think maybe Morgan Freeman's voice would be too deep for a eunuch? ;-P

You know.... that never occured to me :D

I guess I'm tainted by the lack of experience.... never knew a eunuch inreal life :D

Hahaha! Well, I don't think there's a whole lot of grown men out there who could play him without sort of skirting around the whole eunuch thing.

Everything Else / Re: Whay you do and why you hate it!

I train dogs.
I love dogs, and it's very rewarding when I've been working really hard to get someone's crazy dog to be calmer, obey commands, and stop tearing up the house and they say "OMG, is that even my dog??!!" when they pick it up.

On the other hand, I HATE it when someone asks for my help, either to come to their home and give them instructions, or to keep their dog in my home, and they don't bother to maintain the dog's training! It's not a tennis racket, people. You can't just put it in a closet and take it out when you want to play. It takes work to keep your dog behaving well. You can take a highly-trained police dog, seeing-eye dog, drug/bomb sniffing dog and neglect their training and stop laying down rules and discipline and it will turn into a very ill-behaved canine. I hate it when people waste my time, and I really don't like letting them waste their money.

Books / Re: What books did you grow up on?
« on: November 07, 2008, 02:26:49 PM »
I Started with Grimm's Fairy Tales. Let me tell you, that is not the kind of thing 5 year olds should be reading, hahaha! Fairy Tales from the brothers Grimm are not all that innocent.
I used to tell my parents to leave the hall light on and my bedroom door open. I think I had them convinced I was afraid of the dark. I wasn't, I just needed the light to read by. When I heard them coming down the hall, I would hide the book under my pillow and pretend to be asleep.
Starting at 8, I got into Madeline L'Engle, Marguerite Henry (I drew horse pics and sent them to her and she wrote back!), Jack London, and just about anything with horses or animals in it.
I kept re-reading the fairy tales until I was 13, though.  :D

Thanks!! Guys, I really appreciate your responses. I hope I won't need online summaries, as I plan on reading the whole series throughout. (If I like the first book of course)

I'm sure you'll like the first book, it's not slow the way I've heard the later books can be. I remember it being a really fun read.

I remember reading the first 3 books about 13 years ago. I really enjoyed them. When I tried to read the fourth book some time later, I realised  I didn't remember what the hell was going on and I needed to read them all over again. I never did go back and re-read enough to keep up with the series.

My sister on the other hand, loves it. I'm sure she'd reccomend the series to anyone that enjoys fantasy. I'm thinking of finally reading them all, since I won't have the problem of forgetting everything while waiting for the next book to come out.

Oooo! Yay, speculating about who would be in a Mistborn movie!

Hi, I'm new here. I've visited Brandon's site a few times before and read his blogs and other things, but never signed up for the forums.

I would LOVE to see this made into a movie. I remember being so amazed when I read the first book that I could literally see the "flying" and fight scenes in my head. I've read some reviews that said it was confusing for some people, but I just don't see how. I think he did an excellent job with the action imagery. I've lost count of how many times I've skimmed over action scenes in books because they were either too tedious, or just plain boring. Never have that problem with Brandon Sanderson's books.

I'd say Kate Beckinsale would a great Vin, but she's too old. (Not that she's old, but I don't think she call pull off 16 in the first movie).

Do you think maybe Morgan Freeman's voice would be too deep for a eunuch? ;-P
