Ahoy. Anyone going to this next weekend? I'm working the TOKYOPOP booth again. It's supposed to be a lot bigger than Anime Expo, and I found Anime Expo to be pretty large. Comic-Con is more mainstream though, with lots of Hollywood and TV types involved, besides the comics people.
Anyway it will probably be quite interesting as well as tiring.

No, but I was tempted to go just to get a Skull (from PVP) plush that will be an exclusive at the con.
-
I'd like to go to mock fred and Scott and Tycho and so on. but still...
no, I'll go when I'm famous. Right now I can't afford to cross the country for something that's not my career, no matter how interested I am.
-
Admit it, you're not going to Mock them becasue you're scared Gabe would jump you.
-
hey, was Gabe even on my mocking list?
-
well you mentioned Tycho the went "and so on" I took that as you skirting around Gabe's name so you wouldn't have to worry about admitting your fear.
-
yeah, i meant to have Jeff and Jonathan and Pete on the list.
Not gabe.
That guy's TERRIFYING
-
Wow such a fast recovery. You went from denail to acceptence in just one post. I think you're well on your way overcomming your fear SE. I applaude you sir.
-
I don't have the attention span required for a long recovery.
-
No, but I was tempted to go just to get a Skull (from PVP) plush that will be an exclusive at the con.
Me too. I want one!

So I'm at Comic-Con now. I heard there were 75,000 pre-reg and expecting 90,000 total people.
Today at the booth I ran into Anne Sowards! Remember her...she used to work at TLE (around issue 34) and now works at Penguin/Ace/Roc. I went to her apartment for family home evening several times when I was in New York.
She said that Worldcon is tiny compared to Comic-Con.
Oh yeah...Harry Harrison had a panel I went to. It was cool. He talked about how Stainless Steel Rat has been movie optioned for 20 years, and who knows if it will ever be made. And he was supposed to get 5% of the profit for the movie Soylent Green (which was based on his book Make Room! Make Room!), and the movie APPARENTLY never made a profit, because he's never been paid. But at least he was able to make some good contributions to the movie during the filming.
-
Yes, Worldcon is tiny compared to a lot of things. However, it's the largest SF con.
Do me a favor, Ookla. Go to stop by booth 4608 and say hi to Stephen Martiniere for me. He's the guy who did the ELANTRIS cover art.
-
ah crap! That's the other thing I wanted to do... Yeah, I saw his one-page ad in the program guide and said "that's that guy!" It had the Macross picture... Arrrrrrrrrgh um, didn't check the board until just now, and completely forgot to stop by. Tomorrow's Sunday so... Errrgh.
Maybe I can stop by before church.
-
Well, a guy I know and a guy a friend of mine knows are apparantly there.
Worlds colliding.
-
okay. I stopped by the booth, but he wasn't there. I left a message with the person that was there, though.
Ray Bradbury was also at comic-con. I sat in on the first bit of his panel, and then had to go back down to the booth. He was in a wheelchair. He was still entertaining though.
-
Thanks, Ookla. I appreciate your stopping by for me.
My goal is to use Stephen as my cover artist well into the future.

You'll have to write something with giant robots in it.
When are you going to update your blog?
-
I've never had one of those before. How often do people update them? And, do you think it would be a good idea to do it on a set day(s) of the week?
-
Whatever Neil Gaiman is doing, do that.
-
In Tage's absence I agree wholeheartedly with the saying used by Tage.
-
CJ Cherryh updates hers almost every day... I dunno, update whenever you have something to say. But I'm thinking 2-3 times a week would be a good frequency for when to have things to say. ;)
I'm not so interested in Cherryh's ice-skaing lessons; it's more interesting when she talks about the writing.
For a while in this forum you were posting in that update thread, with how many pages you wrote per session. Mundane mechanical details like that can actually be interesting to the public.
-
the purpose of a blog is to have a regular update that people can come back to see, so they come back often. So you should definitely do it more often than once every few weeks.
-
It's definatly a vast Left Wing conspericy to force the metric system upon unsuspecting Amercians.
Also I think you should at least update your blog once a week. Until we start getting other content that will be the only thing that would make a person return to the site with in a decent amount of time.
-
I think you should write about the fish episode.
It would be good blog material.

Aaron Williams mocks ComicCon's most common product...Anime

it's quite an exaggeration. By far the biggest space-taker was booths of people selling comic books. There WAS a large anime presence, but the Lord of the Rings booth and the Star Wars booth added together probably covered more ground than all the anime booths added together except maybe a couple of them.
The comic book shop booths were generally small, but there were zillions of them.
