You like change the way you position your teeth.  I promise you can do it. xD  Also a weird thing with your tongue.  It's like instead of using air to make the hiss you use the buzz to make the hiss.

The difference between the sounds doesn't involve the teeth or the tongue, but maybe you're doing something different entirely, like making a 'Zh'* sound.

* IPA symbol for 'Zh' is [ʒ], and it's the sound at the end of the word massage.

edit: spelling

My version of English uses the same a for wash and father: a as in the Spanish/Italian/most-of-the-world a. The other common a's are the so-called short a (IPA symbol [æ] ) in hat and the so-called long a (IPA symbol [eɪ] ) in hate.

The a in Vasher is the [æ] sound as in hat.

Wait, so wash almost* rhymes with harsh? Cool!

The pronunciation of Vasher seems pretty intuitive, Peter. Good to know. :)

* depending on whether you pronounce the 'R'.

It is interesting though i believe it is a misinterpretation of the data given to us. It is my understanding that the power may be used for anything save creation, but to use it destructively expends more energy.

No, the powers definately can be used creatively. Ruin is pretty clear on this- he wanted to create things to destroy them later, so he was forced to co-operate with Preservation.

There doesn't seem to be any indication that destruction requires any extra energy. All indications point to Ruin and Preservation being almost matched, with the apocalyptic nature of the trilogy being true to Preservation sacrificing some of his power (or "body") to create intelligent life.

Isn't it implyed near the end that Preservation needed a person created by Ruin and Preservation together in order to attack Ruin at the end? if not, wouldn't Preservation just do what Vin did thousands of years ago?

There'd be no point if nobody else existed to pick up both powers at once. Ruin might be enticed to kill them both under certain conditions, but for Preservation, killing Ruin without someone to take their places would be unthinkable.

It's not too hard.  You just make the hissy s sound with the buzzy z sound at the same time. ha ha.

That's actually impossible to do. :) Z is what is called a "voiced" version of the same sound as S- that is, you're making a buzzing sound in your throat while  pronouncing it. It's an on/off thing, so you can't do both at once unless you are blessed with two heads. ;)

For me it's always the vowels.  Talking about Warbreaker with my dad, he just laughed at me when I pronounced Vasher's name as VAW-sher, with a long a.  Is it the 'a' in 'hat', or the 'a' in 'wash'?

And Voldemort's name is also pronounced incorrectly.  The 't' is silent, like the French.

Darn those French people and their funny words!

The 'A' in "wash" is normally associated with the letter 'O', by the way, like in "cosh", or "pot". ;) The other common 'A' sound is the one in "father".

I'm probably way wrong, but I combine the s and the z sound.

Oh, I was just being silly. :)

I always liked the idea of viewpoint icons. It makes even more sense for super-long epics with tens of viewpoints. :)

What I now want to know is how to pronounce Szeth, and if it's possible to do it without showering anyone in front of you. ;)

Apart from that, the world in WoK will easily be the most imaginative and alien world of all of Brandon's published works so far.  You guys will dig it.  And really, WoK's release isn't that far off.

It's only eight months away, and all.

I think you and I have a very different conception of time! ;) Although I agree that eight months isn't long in the publishing or writing world, it's quite a while for fans! :)

I think Plasman's idea hits on something I decided when I included my own oracular magic into the Worldcrystals universe: Seeing the future is much more interesting when it's extremely limited. :)

Plasman has people knowing how they're going to die, and I have a character who knows who his greatest (remaining) enemy will be. :)

Some of the posters here test read for Brandon. :)

Really looking forward to reading this (hopefully) next year. :D

Would certainly be pretty cool, so long as Bradon's got the time for it. :)

That could be either amazing for EUOL or terrible.  If he lives up to it, it will be amazing.  If he doesn't, then it could really stick a wrench in TOR's and even EUOL's gears.

Something that aloof is very . . . sketchy.  I am confident in his writing, but that's a LOT to say.

I'm pretty confident Brandon has the chops to do it. I think how well he picked up the WoT is a good indication. :)

edit: Something that aloof? You think Brandon's new idea is distant and uncaring? ;)
