Did one of your friends at Slummites post a link on fark again? Because this lag is horrible.
-
Yeah, I was noticing the lag too. Unfortunately, I never know when we get a big hit spike until the day after, when I can see the usage reports. The load on the server doesn't *say* it's getting pounded, but remember that I'm still on a shared server. If the whole box is getting hit heavily, then we'll feel it too.
EDIT: Nevermind, there was a huge spike from fark yesterday, and I think it's safe to assume that it's continuing today. Sorry for the lag, everyone.
-
I don't want to come off sounding rude but do you think you could talk to them about that. I realise that it's your server and that we're here because of you, but it's realy inconsiderate to us and the others you host when they do that.
-
I just disabled the offending pic.
Yeah, I think you're right. Back when we had a better server, even fark hits weren't that problematic. It's obvious now that's not the case anymore.
-
uhh
Don't we WANT more readers? That is, one assumes, a goal for all webpages.
I take it the problem of funding now pops up, a perhaps not inappropraite phrase?
-
what there doing is posting a picture in a forum the same way we can include one in our posts. The people aren't actualy visiting the site just viewing a picture from it.
-
Hm..
What picture? IT is not like TWG is a picture hosting site...
-
no but slummites.org is. Both that site and TWG are hosted on Tage's server throught rickstranger.com. So when that site uses a lot of BW we feel it.
-
Slummites is a place for my online friends to hang out, so I generally let them do whatever they want with their space alotment. Anyway, it's no big deal, we won't get stuff like that anymore.
-
Perhaps you could look into an indirect-linking block, so that people actually have to visit the site to view an image? Doesn't really take away your friends' ability to post images, just requires that viewers actually click the link on the 'fark' forum (whatever that is) to view the image.
Just a thought.

hey Tage how do I make a browser go to a 404 page I made? can this be done with PHP?
-
No, it's usually handled in an .htaccess file, or even better in the httpd.conf file. You have to have root access to edit the httpd.conf file, so you'll probably want to us an .htaccess instead. Make a file called .htaccess with the following:
ErrorDocument 404 /the404file.php
where "the404file.php" is whatever file you want it to go to.
-
cool thanks.
-
here's another fun database problem for you. on Mr.P's robotech battlecry review it wont let me save meta tags. I want to put gamecube there, I've tried other ones as well and nothing saved. However 2 other reviews of his saved them.
EDIT: ok I cannot add meta tags to any of the rpg reviews that I need to. Trying to add decipher to several.
-
there's a problem with the RPG header Tage. No when looking at an article in that deparment it shows the normal TWG header not the RPG one.
-
It's the header for all the articles. The $dep variable is getting lost somehow, and I can't figure out why or how. I'll work on it later when I have a minute.
-
$dep might have the wrong thing stored. the dep id is "RPG" right? I've noticed before that sometimes is was storeing "RPGs".
-
in the submit an article pagethe link to the HTLM help page has changed to http://www.it.utk.edu/useful/htmlresources.shtml
-
Whats an HTLM page? Hehehhe ;D :D
-
One of these days our mockery of Sprig is going to push him over the edge and he's goign to shoot all of us.
-
He'll probably miss once he realizes that real guns don't have joysticks.
Sorry, couldn't help it.
-
Yeah, they have mice. Right?
-
Cool, I want a gun that shoots mice.
-
PETA would be all over you. I wonder if the mice-gun would be enough to fend them off.
-
I thinking you are all running on the mistaken assumption that he cares.
Or maybe he does, and he's just been spending the last year developing an automatic weapon with PS2 controls.
-
I wouldn't put it past him. I hope he's covered with mice, so that I can shoot him easily.

What version of HTML does TWG's sever have installed? None of the text formatting (size, color, etc) that I'm trying to use shows up when uploaded to the site. It also could be something to do with how your PHP code takes the HTML and stores it in the database.

Most likely the latter. HTML versions almost never change, and are entirly client-side anyway. There is no "version" of HTML on the server. Which article in particular are you talking about?
-
my edit of the modern ninja. my tags to change font size and color don't work here. They're HTML 4.0. I know SE has had this problem before too.
-
All I'm seeing are class calls to some unknown stylesheet. I don't see any direct tags for color or size. Who on earth wrote that weird article, anyway?
-
that would be JP
-
Don't take this the wrong way, JamP, but you frighten me.
-
Thank you. :)

Hey Tage - I sent another copy of that last review I did with some small corrections, but you must have missed it before you posted the original. Just so you know that that's what it is when you notice it. The corrections are no big deal at all, so feel free to ignore it.
-
I was just carrying out Fell's orders, and I didn't see the second one. I just looked over them both and can't even tell the difference between them. If you want something specific edited, just let me know.
-
There were only small changes to paragraphs 3 and 7. They were there only because I had learned a little more about the game, so nothing is incorrect, really. I guess just erase the copy.
-
I was working on some PHP for a page and tried adding a "for loop". However, when ever I added a "+" symbol and saved the code it would get deleted. Any way to get around this?
-
You could try escaping it, although I don't know why a + sign would get deleted. You can escape characters with a backslash, ie:
\+
