Title: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Post by: stacer on March 29, 2006, 01:35:40 AM
I've been Netflixing the series from the beginning, and I'm having a lot of fun. Now on disc 2 of season 4. I just saw the FUNNIEST scene of any of the scenes I've seen in the entire series. Xander finds Harmony (post-vamp) burning Spike's stuff, and then they taunt each other with slaps and stomping each other's feet, and then it goes into slow motion slapping girly-style, with her finally getting him in a headlock and him doing something to her waist, all the while Harmony saying, "I'm so gonna bite you!"

Seriously, the funniest scene of the entire series. I wish I knew how to sample scenes, because I'd totally rip that one scene to watch it over and over again. If anyone knows if this scene is on the web somewhere, let me know. I just rewound it to watch it again. Turning Harmony into a vampire was perfect. I mean, she was already part vamp in high school.

What's the episode name? I'd try searching for it on youtube.com

The Initiative. I think it's episode 7 of the season, if that helps.

Now I went to youtube.com and searched for "Buffy The Initiative" and ta-daaaa!

"Xander and Harmony's Catfight." It must lose something if you've never watched the series, sorry, 'cause it was ok but I wasn't cracking up or anything.    ;D

Thanks! That's awesome. Yeah, you really do have to know the characters, I think. But if you get the chance to watch the show on DVD, I recommend it. Lots of fun, and funnier than I remembered. I started watching it again (I'd caught a few in the 2nd and 3rd seasons because of a roommate with a Buffy addiction) because I realized it was written by Josh Whedon. Well, I already knew it, but after watching Firefly and Serenity, I realized just how funny he is and wanted to give Buffy another try.

Also, now I'm going every other disc with Angel and Buffy because I'm into the 4th season, and there's crossover between shows. I think I like Angel even more than Buffy, which is what most fans of the show when it was on used to tell me. I used to catch Angel from time to time last year when we had cable, but didn't understand a lot of what was going on with the continuity, so I wasn't as interested, but now that I know why Cordelia was on the show, it makes so much more sense.

It's actually Joss Whedon.

Uh. Yes. Whoops. I knew that. It was just late at night.

If you want to see how funny Joss Whedon can be, watch Angel, season 2, episode 21 "Through the Looking Glass". He is Numfar, in the background, silently doing the Dance of Joy, the Dance of Honor, and later the Dance of Shame.

IMHO, considered as a whole, Buffy the Vampire Slayer is the greatest television show ever made.

I didn't start watching it until reruns of the second season when it was airing.  But I wasn't really hooked until the second season's finale -- one of the most perfectly conceived and executed examples of requiring your protagonist to make a painful choice.

stacer, that scene is a gem. One of my favorite Angel episodes, though, has to be Smile Time. Puppet Angel is so hilarious.

Okay, the episode of Angel I just saw does rival that episode. Angel gets asked to dance, and he imagines himself dancing like a dork, tongue hanging out and everything. I'm thinking this show is worthy of having for re-watching, it was that funny.

hmm. Doesn't ring a bell. What the name of that one? You know, I really, really want to start adding Angel to my DVD collection. Buffy too. *sigh* Cash flow: nonexistent.

I think the title of that episode is "She," and I bet it was there on youtube.com, too...

Yep, here it is, for your viewing pleasure:

Thank you for that vague, outdated cultural reference, Jam.

How did I miss this topic for so long?  BTVS is one of my all-time favorite shows.  I watched most of season 1 before I went to college and then promptly ignored the series for four years.  I picked it up again when the DVDs were released and was hooked all over again.

I own the complete series of both Buffy and Angel, loving both.  I think Angel had a stronger finish than Buffy, though.  The last Angel episode was simultaneiously butt-kicking and heart-breaking all at once to the 200th degree, which has always been what Joss excels at.

The only thing that tops them is Firefly, Joss's absolute best.
