Well there's a D&D MMORPG in development
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/ddonline/news_6028104.html
-
Huh. If it is based on Basic or 1st edition rules you can sign me up right now!
Otherwise, I'll pass.
;D
-
Well it's slated for a 2005 release so by that time it will be D&D 3.7 edition
-
Now you can powergame to your hearts extent online!
;D
-
And the DM is actually a computer program.
How completely appropriate.
-
Oh please, the whole idea makes me ill of an MMOG. Actually, most of the existing ones do. We all know that this computer won't be truly replacing the same experience of playing D&D face to face with your friends.
-
I'm currently playing Dark Age of Camelot (for the 3rd time--I take large breaks in between being addicted). What I like about that MMORPG is the social aspect. It's not *as* fun as playing PnP with your friends can be, but it's available anytime, and you get to meet a lot more people.
As far as having a DM, MMORPGs shouldn't even try. That's not how they work, and any that tries will probably fail miserably.
-
It's kind of funny, I actually have been considering applying for a content designer position at Turbine Entertainment. If I did apply, actually got the job, and were still around in 2005, I'd have an opportunity to help make this MMORPG as open-ended as possible.
I've got my cover letter/resume written up and everything. Only problem is, I really don't like the idea of moving to Boston.. :(
-
Dude, Boston is a *cool* town. And I'm a Southern boy talkin' bout a Yankee town.
Plus, you'd be a few hours drive from the DC area and could game with us on road trips.
-
Yeah I'm sure it'd be cool, it just doesn't fit too well with my Plan. (Note: That was my Plan, not my Evil Master Plan. That comes later.)
-
Ooo. Evil Master Plan? Does it, like mine, involve chickens? Undead Chickens of Doom!
-
No, he's moving to Boston. So it must involve clam chowder. Possibly undead clam chowder
... i wonder if that tastes better than non-undead clam chowder
-
Undead clam chowder wiggles a lot more on the way down.
