Ah!  Need Computer Help Fast!
« on: June 13, 2005, 04:15:31 PM »
Sigh.

How does this stuff happen.

I turn off my computer on Friday with absolutely no problems and come back Sunday to find that it will not connect to the wireless network set up in the house.  A friend brings a laptop and we confirm there is a signal up there.  My computer can detect the networks, but will not connect.  We try everything we can think of with now luck.

So I uninstalled the wireless card drivers and  then reinstalled them to find that I could connect again.  Yeah.

Except that now, about every 2 hours, I get THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH.  It reports the following:

STOP: 0x0000008E (0x0000005, 0x804ECD33, 0xF2BA7784, 0x000000)

When I restart I have the problem of not being able to connect to the internet again and can solve it the same way, with the same (blue screen) result.

This is driving me crazy...help, please!

Oh, and I should note that the first blue screen I got had the BAD_POOL_ERROR as its error, the rest have had the above.

What activities were you doing when you were using hte computer on Friday? Was there anything odd about hte shut down? What about the start on Sunday?

Was the laptop using one of your wireless cards or his own?

I had done nothing out of the ordinary on Friday.  I don't remember downloading or installing anything.  Same for Sunday, the connection problem began right away.

The BSOD problem didn't start until I began uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers for the card.

The laptop was on its own wireless network card.

it sounds like a hardware failure then. I'd try downloading the very latest drivers, if you haven't already (available at the manufacturer's website, and sometimes on windows update). If that doesn't work, try your wireless hardware on a different computer and see if you get the same thing happening.

Already tried updating the drivers with the same effect.

Perhaps I should try a rollback.

Currently, I've deleted everything pertaining to my wireless card to see if a BSOD still pops up.  Should pop up soon if it does (I'm on my roomie's comp).
