Well, I did not intend to give a life lesson there in that simplistic statement. What I meant was that we should not express such strongly disapproving opinions about REAL-LIFE people, only politicians and such... because... what if a newcomer were to commit suicide after a particularly brutal slapdown? And of course that is extreme and preposterous, but still.

B) We have already toned down newbie slapdown for similar reasons
C) Using that philosophy, you should never say anything mean or hurtful to anyone.

I highly doubt that. You may not do so with malicious intent, but I would be willing to bet that you do say hurtful things more often than you think. It isn't a reflection of your character, it is just a natural part of being human. People have different experiences, different weaknesses, and different things that they take offense to. It is impossible to go through life without treading on feet, even if you avoid doing so consciously.
