Post by: Spriggan on June 26, 2003, 02:45:12 PM
here's a preview of what me and 42 are doing for next week.  it's a fireworks program.  there's are only 2 different types done atm, I'm going to have 3-5 more.  And 42 is generiuos enough to do a few backgrounds.  There is sound, you can turn it off by clicking the green stop button in the bottem right hand corner.

If we had real bad taste we'd ask you to code the shuttle as a firework.

But how about a sloth shape!

I curse my connection. It may be my firewall, but I'm unwilling to give that up, as I have too many scans and attacks.

ok just an update that I am on target to be done by Monday then Fell/Tage can post it on the main page if they want.  I've got 3 backgrounds, 4 fireworks and a menu bar for the buttons (so they're not on top of the background/fireworks) and the ability to launch the fireworks via keyboard as well as by the mouse.  I'm going to have at least 2 more backgrounds (more if others make some) and 3-4 more firework types.

Cool!  My only suggestion is to make it so you can have multiple of the same shots going at the same time.  If I highlight one of the slow ones at the bottom, then click on it again, the firework I'd launched before dissapears and is replaced with the new one.  It would be cool if you could spray off a barrage from the same color.

I've found you can just "give them the focus" and they go off, no clicking needed. Much quicker. I'm not actually sure if it is quicker. It may not be.

lol there's no code for clicking.  Only when you rollover the button.  Clicking will do absolutly nothing.

Do to file size I'm limiting the number of backgrounds to 4 and number of fireworks to 5 (not including various colors).  With everything it's going to be about 350k and I don't realy want to go over that.  I'm cleaning up the file now and redoing a few animations, I'll post the actual file in about an hour.

First off, how cute. A simulator of fireworks, so geeks do not have to go outdoors to watch them.

I must say, it is rather good fun. But... backgrounds, please. It cannot be that hard to find photos... do a google search. Can we also have an option to fire ALL fireworks at once? Put in some spectator sounds... clapping etc when a certain number of fireworks goes off in the last few seconds (eg... 'IF fireworks = <3 THEN cheering = true ELSE cheering = false. Yes, i did fail my computing course.). Also, can you put in some code that occasionally birds fly across and can get hit by careful application of fireworks? That would just make my day.

The backgrounds are crappy for 2 reasons:
1) I have no artistic ability
2) useing photo's greatly increase the file size.  The jupiter one raises it by a 50k alone.  If I had all 4 or more of them as photos then we'd be looking at a file size of at least a half a meg.  And that's two big.

There allready is claping after so many are launched.  A launch all is a good idea.  I might add that, but the rest of it stays as is.

There is a spaceship that rolls across the screen that you can hit, I've done that. And I believe the clapping sound is there, its justa  bit hard to hear if your, ya know, deaf. I'll agree with the backgrounds. It's a bit... well ya.

I've decided against adding a "launch all" button.  the fireworks are too complex for lots of them to be on stage.  Doing so slows down flash.  When all are there it's not 12 objects on screen but 200+.  And yes the backgrounds aren't spectacualr but I'm not going to address those again, just read my previous post.

Since Fell is going to post this one the main page I've gone through and cleaned up the 3rd background.  Tossed the 4th one (since no one knew what it was) and added a new one.  Also there are "hidden" events that will occur with mulitiple key presses.  I.E. U-F-O.  All three pressed at once.  All are 3 key combos and may contain keys that are not linked to a firework.  There are also 1 special one per background.  Also the Pre-loader has been improved.  Hopefuly it's more enjoyable now.

EUOL wanted me to post the codes for the hidden effects in the program since he never knew about them.  At any time press C-H-T, all three buttons need to be pressed at the same time, you can just hold them down and that works too.  That code brings up a list of the things you can do.  And, thanks for Flash 7's (ie MX 2004) better complier and prossecer, now that flash runs faster more things can happen so next years will use particles that are animated mathmaticaly instead of frame wise.  This will let you launch lots more, set them to any: size, shape and color.  So watch for that next June.
