You might have missed this if you don't check "Site News," but I'll be unable to write The Nerdery #4 because I have Boards next week.
I need a guest writer so I'm opening the forum to ideas if any of you want a shot at it.

I'll do it, I want to focus on the Comic/ Gaming shoppe nerd, and why acting obsessive and being overly opinionated drives people away from the hobby. Not the players mind you, the merchendisers the store owners, and the clerks. Also I intend to digress on why gaming is good for kids.

Well, I just had a thought for one of these. About the N-Gage. Why are people so mean to it? Are nerds threatened by it because it could be a relialbe, useful alternative to Nintendo's answer for mobile gaming? Most of (I should probably say all of them) my friends say that the N-gage is bad, some even going so far as to threaten me with death for mentioning its name. Why I ask, Why?
That was my topic. But I guess until you need another, and I even plausibly get my hands on one this could wait. For Jeffe's sake. =P

Gemm, people hate the N-Gage because it is a phone trying to be a Games Console, and failing very badly. The games are crap, it has numerous design flaws, and more importantly, the Advertising Spiel insults it's target audience. (Showing pictures of an idiot skateboarder, the sort who beats up gamers enjoying the console isn't the best way to get good cred)

I hate to shatter your illusion, JP, but most console gamers arn't nerds. Most PC gamers are, yes, but consoles are aimed more at the casual market. Since the NGage is a mobile device, it only makes sense to target it at the predominantly casual console gamer market. There is, after all, more of them.
I know someone who has one. It's not actually that big, and doesn't look that stupid when used as a phone.

From what I've heard the new versoin is a lot better, and they're finaly starting to get good games. Though it may be too little too late. But heck, if the PA guys actualy said its not as bad as they originaly said then there must be some good things about it. I think the reason that the N-Gauge has such a bad rep is that very few of the people that rip on it have actualy used one or even seen one, they're just rambleing off the same lines as the 3 people that have seen them.
I personaly think their wireless system is very good, but I don't think it's good enough for me to pay extra a month to be able to use it.

I think gamers in general are less nerdy than you want to think. Jocks and skaters and so forth have been playing for years. Computers are becoming pervasive as well, and it is NOT unusual to see programmers and gamers from various previous cliques. Crossover groupings are common.
I'd also like to add that reinforcing or creating divisions where divisions even once existed is a bad way to live a life. It will cause only more damage to the ways of life you enjoy.
