Great game, even if it wasn't for the price...
« on: March 07, 2005, 07:25:32 PM »
I just found and have been playing a game called "Battle for Wesnoth".  It is light on graphics, but has good game play.  Don't look for it at wal-mart, though, it's an open source game.  You can download it for free.

It's really quite fun.

I'm a little dumb when it comes to non-XP stuff, how would I go about constructing the game if I don't have Linux or whatever it wants.

Open-source doesn't automatically mean its linux... Unless you found its website or something.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

I did find the website. It appears that the game isn't compatible with XP. Too bad, it looked like something I would be in to.

No, I'm playing it on XP...  Let me find the link.

Go to

http://www.wesnoth.org/downloads

And click on the third link down.  'Wesnoth for Microsoft Windows'

Like I said, don't expect killer graphics, but I'm having a fun time.

No problem, let me know what you think.  I guess there are hundreds of maps, and lots of variations.  My friend showed me another open source game, but I don't recall the name of it right now.  It's more of an RPG.

So far, I love the game. The AI is kind of evil, they like to pick on my weak units a lot. I do have a question. Can you advance your units past lvl 3? A lot of mine stopped gaining XP a while ago.

The only character I've got past level 3 is the mage you're given at the beginning.  He starts at level 5, and doesn't progress.

Since it's all open source, hop in, change the code, and advance to your heart's content.
