Brandon Sanderson / Re: Favorite Character in Elantris

My fav character in the book is the Seons. They may be a little to obedient but overall they are the best.

Ah, yes, the Seons!! I'm still so curious about them. I thought we'd learn how they're created by the end. So, when I finished reading the copy I had (it was an old version when it was still his thesis), I just had to bug EUOL about it. ("The Seons, dang it, tell me about the Seons!" Okay, I was more restrained than that. I said something more like "Did I miss something that's in the revised version cuz I really, really wanted to figure the Seons out too.")
So anyway, I was exceedingly happy when EUOL said that he might have a sequel regarding Light -and- Dark Seons in the works after the Mistborn trilogy is out.  :D Now -that- would be cool.

I would have to say that Hrathen was my favorite. His internal dialouge really interested me . . .

I'd definitely put in my vote for Hrathen as well. What an awesome bad guy! His inner conflict was fascinating, as was his attraction to Sarene. One reason I felt more drawn to him over Raoden is that Raoden tended to be a little more, um, self-assured than Hrathen.
Yes, the un-dead Prince got off to a *very* rough start and has internal worries of his own.
All in all, though, he comes off as so determined in his specific goals.  I felt like the problems coming at him were more external whereas Hrathen is beseiged by tons of inward turmoil in addition to outward struggles. So that's why Hrathen's POV was especially intriguing for me. I really liked how his character turned out at the end, too. Hurrah for multi-sided bad guys!!  :D

Whoa. That's pretty dang cool. Of course, it'd be cooler if those people just went and bought the book! ;)
Still, a book with lots of patrons waiting for it is a very good sign!

Oh, wow. Yes, I loved that show. It ticked me off when they canceled it!! My family and I taped all of them, actually. I remember loving the Terrians and enjoying the other story lines as well--like how the planet once was a dumping ground for murderers and such. Oh, and Antonio Sabato Jr., mmm.  :D Personally, I think the series holds up pretty well over time.
Funny thing is that I've just "discovered" Firefly. A friend kept telling me I should get the DVDs. I got Disc 2 from Netflix yesterday and watched 2 highly enjoyable episodes last night after watching Lost. Loved them both so much I kept reminding myself not to laugh too hard or else I'd wake up my roomie.
As far as I'm concerned, *both* shows should've stayed around much, much longer!

No more research for meeee! Ex-cellent!
I've not only finished my research on Tor for my book pub class but also found some snazzy sci fi/fantasy fonts on this really cool site (http://www.abstractfonts.com/fonts/). I think it's one of the better free font sites out there. I spent maybe forty minutes just browsing and downloading fonts. My title page of my research paper is gonna look sweeeet! :D Too bad I still have to write the paper, though...

Thanks for all the info, Brandon. Very interesting!
Wow, 25K for MISTBORN. That's definitely impressive. :D I can't wait to see the cover art...
And, speaking of cover art, given Vaj's comments, I'm awfully curious to see how the French cover will turn out.

Hey. A friend of mine in CA just told me that a Firefly/Serenity con is headed his way. So I thought I'd post the link and dates for any fellow TWG Browncoats in that area.  :)

Burbank, CA from Dec. 9-11

Yeah, though I'm not sure it was *his* decision to let Myrtle go all stalker-like on him. Actually, I'm thinking that the powers-that-be of HP film making and publicity probably had more to do with that than poor Daniel did.
But . . . maybe fame has gone to our boy's head? I dunno. However, I shudder to think, that, at his age, he went to the director and begged to rachet-up the sexual tension in the bath scene! yipes.

Yeah, I hated that! Why can't the server people fix it so we don't keep losing the fonts?? I also got so sick of having to delete some weird folder in the systems folder so that Quirk--er, Quark--would actually work. What a nuisance! grrrr. >:(
I just hope the issue is out by the time I get back in UT to pick up my copy!
Oh, that reminds me, I planned on being a slush puppy a couple more times while I'm in town during December. Are you guys still meeting at 7:30pm on Tue and Thur and then 10:30am on Sat.?

...Rita Skeeter storyline.  I actually hate that woman with a firey burning passion, so I dont' know whether to be happy or upset about the cut.  I could have done with ... less Myrtle trying to get a peek at Harry's naughty bits, imho.

Ditto! I was oddly relieved to have less Rita than expected. On the other hand, I was somewhat alarmed at how much we got of Myrtle-the-tramp. blech. If I didn't know better, though, I'd think this might be a nod to all those young girls who've fallen madly in crush for Daniel Radcliff. ;)

Neither, sad to say. You'd think that being out here in New England I'd let myself indulge in the "real" stuff. But I've got the Log Cabin Lite syrup instead. Lo-cal stuff, but tastes pretty dang good to me! We Americans gotta do something to counter the effects of Thanksgiving.   ;)

...and many more! :D (Happy b-day Dr. Jeffe!)

I'm in a happy mood because I made breakfast this morning: whole wheat French toast w/ lite maple syrup and ripe strawberries, plus some OJ. Yum, yum.

Now I'm as prepared as I'll ever be to meet the challenges of creating a P&L statement for my book financing project... *gack*

I've been curious about the print runs of ELANTRIS now that it's in its third go-round (which is spectacular, by the way!). So... given that Tor is such a large publisher, I've been wondering how many initial copies they ordered? I mean, do you think that was a typical initial run for a first-time writer at Tor? (I just wanted to get some perspective on this stuff. I've read the numbers Ookla puts up, but I'm epically miserable at trying to interpret numbers....???)

Okay, so that leads me to ask how many copies did Tor order for the second and the third press runs?

I'm also really curious about the return rate, percentage-wise. (My book pub prof keeps saying how 30% is the going rate for books that're shipped back to publishers.) Do you get any info on this?

Oh, and has Tor told you how many copies they'll order of MISTBORN? I wonder if that projected number increased after they've watched your first book gain momentum?

Well... I think I'd better leave my questions at that for now! Thanks!  :D

We sold upwards of 70 copies of the book, which makes this the best signing I've ever done.

Very cool. Hurray for book signings on Black Friday!

Safari is irritating me to no end right now. This error message keeps popping up saying "TypeError - Null value." Whatever -that- means!!
