That could play out really interestingly. Because it would require Dalinar to forgive him, and after what happened that would require friggin' divine levels of honour and mercy. Of course, if there's any character to display such a thing...

If you tilt your head, you can see that she's standing at an angle on a wall with Kredik Shaw in the background.

In all seriousness, I'd love to see you take a stab at Ashir's "experiment" from Geranid's interlude (starting page 711 in TWoK.) Some of the description of it:

"The small stone room smelled sharply of spices. Ashir was trying another new experiment. It involved some kind of curry powder and a rare Shin fruit that he'd caramelized."
"She eyed the contents. Bits of bread covered with a red sauce."
"'Yes. It was really fascinating the way that Shin vegetable caramelized.'"
"'Yes, but you'd hate it. No fruit. Is this fish you added?'
'A dried handful of the little minnows I caught outside this morning.'"

It sounds like an interesting dish, and certainly quite challenging. :)

OK, I will admit that I was being a little hasty with Soulcasting; it does have limits (currently it is directly related to the size of the gemstone, but more limits may arise). However, I will complain about AonDor.

I just feel like I have to chime in here that AonDor doesn't need to be "excused" for any reason. I thought it was a wonderfully written magic system, intuitive, consistent, and fitting for the world, with clear limits and consequences. Just one uninformed, ranting fan's point of view.
Where are the "limits and consequences?" The system is, "if you draw the shape correctly, you get power." The only "limit" is distance from Elantris.
You don't think that every magic user in the world suddenly transforming into a tortured, immortal being when there's an earthquake is a "consequence"? AonDor is very closely tied to the land, and if something happens to it, everyone who uses it suffers. If I had a choice, that would definitely be enough to make me think twice about taking it up.

In the interests of possibly saving people some work, isn't there already a Sanderson wiki?

Very interesting! I'm sure this is a lot fancier than what the skaa peasants would be eating, but no matter - just reading about these things is making me salivate. Maybe this is what the servants in noble houses whip up when their masters let them take leftovers home. :)

I'd be interested to see you try to recreate the seed corn and slime mixture that one of the Elantrians eats in Elantris. :P

Also, the first time Kaladin realized he was taking in stormlight (when Teft punched him) wasn't he holding the sapphire spheres they'd taken from the chasm? Another interesting parallel there.

I wish he would come to Western Canada, or at least Seattle.  Seeing as I could theoretically make a day trip to Seattle if I really wanted to. Although an overnight or weekend trip would be more practical.

Yeah, we Canadians kind of get shafted when it comes to the cool people touring...

The spren affinity has some logic.  The problem I have with that theory, however, is the lack of spren in Dalinar's visions.  There are none and there are still Knights Radient...

Just a wild theory that just jumped to mind... but what if there are no spren in the visions because they were all bound to Radiants? After the Radiants fell, their spren were all abandoned to just wander through the world, mindless and without memories, like Syl was. After a while people just got so used to seeing them around that they took them to be a natural part of life.

That all makes a bit of sense.  Especially the part with storing youth.

Thinking about TLR really makes me curious.  I'd love to read a novel/short story about the time period right after the logbook ends.  Reading everything about him at the well, discovering/gaining allomantic abilities, his rise to power, etc.  I think it'd be an interesting story.

I think it'd be depressing, actually.  I got the impression he wasn't a particularly good leader.  Sure, the worst excesses probably came from Ruin's twisting, but my suspicion is that he wasn't a good leader in any case, just obscenely overpowered with his combo of Allomancy, Feruchemy and Hemalurgy (the last used to create Koloss, Kandra and Inquisitors, which all extend his power even if he does not let himself get spiked excessively.)

Might be depressing, but it would still be really interesting. At the very least it would answer a lot of questions about the world of Scadriel.

I'd assumed that the diversity of humanoid life was just another way to keep the coral reef feel of the world going. You walk through a city and you're surrounded by not only a whirlwind of different cultures, but different colours of skin and other differences in appearance. Given the sheer number of diverse species in the ocean, it just felt like a natural part of Roshar to me.

And wasn't Gavilar originally the honorable one? He was the one studying the Way of Kings while Dalinar was still obsessed with killing. It was only Gavilar's death that made him start following the Codes and such. So your theory's plausible, but it would be a bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy...

Can I just throw out a random theory on the Knights Radiant here? I was reading the back of the book, and ended up just staring at the line, "before the Heralds abandoned us and the Knights Radiant turned against us." for ten minutes.

For no apparently reason it occurred to me that maybe the Radiants have somehow 'fallen from grace' for lack of a better term, and that maybe they got cursed, or something to that effect.

It's been a long time since I have had the book--I just barely got it back--and I'm too lazy to look it up, but I remember something about the Voidbringers being the parshmen, or at least that's what Jasnah thinks. Any chance the Radiants are Parshendi? or vise versa?

I just had to write it down before I started pulling apart the flaws :P

Any thoughts?

I don't think it was so much the knights that fell to grace, but the humans around them. Without the threat of the voidbringers, humanity started fighting amongst themselves, and the knights got sick and tired of being used in these fights, so they gave up and let humanity fight amongst themselves.

You'd think if they were sick and tired of all the fighting they would have hidden the Blades and Plate away where nobody was going to find them anytime soon, of course, maybe the other orders besides the Windrunners  and Stonewards did, and that's why there are hundreds of Shards missing. Rather then you know leaving the fighting people with even better ways to kill each other.
Or it could be just their way of saying "You know what? You want to use these things to slaughter each other, you have fun with that. We're done."
