Brandon Sanderson / Re: Atium Mistings?
« on: March 13, 2008, 07:13:14 PM »
I'm with Charity on this one, I'm thinking he used it all up somehow. While yes it was supposedly where all his wealth came from I believe that was all just a front. This is supported by the fact that absolutely noone(or at least it's not mentioned) has actual seen a large quantity of it at any one place. Also, he feeds the illusion by selling just a little bit to various nobles along way. What he used it on I'm not exactly sure but maybe it's used in the process of making inquisitors or maybe it was used to fight off the well spirit. I'm not sure but my gut tells me he used all of it or most of it in some way.

Everything Else / Re: Sword Fighting Prowess

I'm gonna have to say it is a purely a sword fight. No magical blades and no magic used by the fighter. In which case Vin wouldn't probably stand a chance against any of the other characters mentioned here. I still have to say when it comes down to pure skill with a sword Rand beats anyone. Furthermore even if anyone wanted to use magic against Rand I'm pretty sure they would lose there too. He can just level an the entire continent said person is on with balefire and call it a day.

Maybe I missed something here but what ever happened to the boatload of atium the Lord Ruler had? You can simply answer that he never had it and he made it up but we know he was constantly mining the stuff from the Pits of Hatsin so where did it all go?

In order for a lurcher to make any sort of effective shield it would require a huge arc which in turn would require the use of more and more metal objects to effectively "shield" the area. The more objects added, will mean more concentration  required to keep said shield spinning. I don't see this working to the lurchers advantage it might be a neat trick but not very useful in a fight. Kinda like the trick Zane does for Vin when he twists in midair using a coin as his base. I think she even thinks to herself something along the lines of "very amazing and graceful but not very practical." Those words would apply in this scenario.

Even though I have seen the movie about 300 times, the ending of Braveheart gets me everytime....

That is quite interesting the movie puts quite a positive spin on Jesse James. Making him out to be a hero of some sort. Going so far to show how much everyone despised Robert Ford for killing him.... I really wish I had a time machine...It would be really handy to figure a situation such as this. Ah well it wouldn't be the first time Hollywood presented a historical villain as the good guy.

Movies and TV / The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

Personally I thought this to be one of the better movies I've seen so far this year. It easily had to be one of the best acted movies I have ever seen. It's true it is really slow moving but the characters have so much depth and are so well portrayed that I found myself absolutely engrossed. I knew the movie was long but when I picked up the case after watching the movie and read that it was 2 hours and 40 minutes long I said to myself "Wow, it was that long." The people I talked to either loved it or absolutely hated it and the haters have a wide margin on those who loved it. I think most people expected it to be more along the lines of 3:10 to Yuma.  I just find it odd that there was so many who disliked this movie when I genuinely enjoyed it. What do you guys think?

Brandon Sanderson / Re: Do Steel Inquistors need to burn metals?
« on: February 29, 2008, 11:15:09 PM »
Good question... It would help to know the whole process behind how inquisitors were made. Which is something we probably will find out about in HoA. All we know is that it has something to do with the spikes/hemalurgy and they become "synthetic" mistborn. However as to if they burn metals or not, I believe that they do. If my memory serves me correctly in the first book when Vin and Kelsier break into Kredik Shaw the inquistor facing Vin burns atium.

Just throwing this out there....What if they were just called a glimpse?

As in...

"Hey did you just see that atium burner over there?"
"Oh. You mean the Glimpse?"

Maybe it's not as neat sounding as a soothsayer, but hey I think it works...kind of....

Awesome! That cover is freaking BA! That is pretty close to how I imagined Vin would look. I also like how the art is more realistic.

1. What I wanted to be when I was little was to be an FBI agent.

2. Struggling with what I want to be but leaning toward something in Geology, Biology, or Chemistry.

3. Right now I am a store manager for a wholesale plumbing supply company and going to school to get my Bachelors in Biology.

4. Hopefully someday I will be a field biologist maybe a zoologist or hey maybe even work in lab somewhre. Although, I may just keep climbing the corporate ladder with my current employer.

Movies and TV / Re: Books to Films.....
« on: February 14, 2008, 03:03:50 PM »
While I have to agree that I would love to see Robert Jordans WoT on the screen I am a little wary. I believe that good books can become good movies. Take for example the Lord of the Rings books and movies. Although, you are correct that large chunks are taking out in order to keep the time of the movie manageable. Also, it's nearly impossible for film to recreate those scenes in books where you get incite into what a character is thinking. By not being able to bring that to the screen you lose a whole lot of important character depth....

I personally think that the WoT would work better as a series on a network such as HBO. Which does a really good job with their originally series such as Sopranos and Rome. Making it a long running series gives you more time to get in as much as possible as opposed to a movie in which you get three hours. Even if you made a trilogie out of it you still only get nine hours. However, if you make it a series that last for say six years, at twelve episodes a year, and each an hour long you get 72 hours. Given the size and depth of the WoT series I think that that would be the best option.
