Front Page and Professionalism
« on: March 31, 2006, 04:05:13 PM »
Currently there are some personal differences that are affecting the forum and the TWG site.  I am not going to comment on those, but feel strongly about speaking up for the site.

The lead in for the new article on the TWG page is inappropriate and embarassing.  I just got a call from a friend that I had sent to the site - I link here from my blog as do others - today wanting to know if I was pulling their leg about this being a serious and professional site.  The article itself is fine, thematically, but very difficult to read because of errors and formatting.  I know Spriggan doesn't proof, but someone needs to. The errors are bad enough that I stopped reading at about the half way point.  The link to the forum that should be at the bottom is also missing.

I'm going to beg, for the sake of the site, that nothing be put up until these differences have a chance to be dealt with in private.  TWG is a professional site and I, for one, really don't want to see it fall apart.  Many of us have come to love it here and to appreciate the people we interact with, and I'd hate to lose that.

Personally, I think the blurb is hilarious. Maybe I'll link it to the right place. Anyone who hasn't, should probably read the last few posts in the "Anti-Religious Memes" thread.

I agree. The blurb is totally out of place, the article needs cleaning up. I've read jeffes stuff before and his usually does. I'm not saying he writes bad articles, just that he isn't that great at making them clear to read (which is why god invented authors and then invented editors, I guess). The blurb needs to be made appropriate and not look like a high-school feud. The article needs a standard editor sweep. Clear up the double L's, remove the redundant 'well's' and such.

I'm not interested in getting involved in the dispute, but I think that admins disagreeing on articles is no excuse for letting standard site practice slip.
If you're ever in an argument and Entropy winds up looking staid and temperate in comparison, it might be time to cut your losses and start a new thread about something else :)

Yeah, I wrote that and submitted it to E for editing
but it never got edited. A lot of my stuff is written in a hurry at work.

I wish you'd been able to read it. It saddens me that you cant.

May I also just add that the non-"in crowd" handled this with awesome grace. Nobody got violent or said inappropriate things till they had figured it out and had their suspicions confirmed.

I didn't think anyone would believe it. I thought for certain I was way over the top. I mean... Kobold Nazis?

I, too, was disappointed by the blurb for Jeffe's article right on the front page of TWG--and then even more dismayed to open the link and see so many grammatical problems. In fact, I stopped reading it (though it looks like Jeffe's just done some work to it). Anyhow, like Jena and Entropy, I only speak up because I love TWG. It's such a great forum in many, many ways.

So I'd be remiss if I didn't voice my concerns over the professionalism and hope that, until these personal differences are sorted out, reviews and the like will be put on hold until they can get the proper attention. I would also hope that the blurb, at least, be changed to reflect the article instead of the current personal disagreements.

Serves them right, the dorks--and I mean that in the original sense of the word. (I didn't notice because I came in on the tail end of this). Sorry, but this ticks me off. I got bad news today that really messed me up and then I get all upset and worried that TWG is emploding and everyone's acting like little boys fighting in a sand box. >:( I've had enough drama.

Color me unimpressed, guys.  I am glad that your humor comes at the cost of other people.

Regardless of your 'joke' - used in the loosest of possible terms - the article is still in serious need of editing.
