Title: october events
Post by: Spriggan on October 01, 2004, 09:54:49 AM
We need another TWG gameing night, especialy since Skar is back and has  time to spend with us.  I was thinking the end of the month (30th is a saturday), but since Halloween is on a Sunday this year Fell, Mustard will want to be with their families that night.  So either 23rd (saturday) or 29th (friday).

Also we'll be starting back up our theme weeks, I've been wanting to do this for a while but didn't want to get stuck with doing 7-8 articles again.  The theme I want to do is "Undead", I'm sure EUOL could do a special EUOLogy for us that week too.

what ever you want.  Doubt I'll use it since it's easier and better to use this board for things like this.

What we realy need is a sidebox on the main page for announcements such as theme weeks, contests and such.  Someone get the whip out and make Tage design TWG 4.0.

Hah. Good luck getting him away from Cadamis. Though if you come and play CoH with us, he might do it :P

It could go under or over the poll. Wouldn't take a whole new version, just a feature add. It would be TWG 3.1 or something. Just like Windows!

Eh, why pay for an MMORPG when I get one for free.  I'd probaly join you if I weren't in WoW beta, but I've only got enough time for one online game.

ya he could, but the thing is there are lots of things that need to be reworked or added.  Frankly TWG needs an overhaul from the database all the way up.

Game night near the end of the month will be tricky for me because my parents and two brothers will all be in town both weekends.

We've made Halloween our family gathering holiday since no one else travels then.

Nice thought though. ???

Game night or not, I'll vote for some kind of gathering Halloween weekend, because I'm going to be in Provo. But as you all know, I'm not much of a gamer, though I'm up for trying. Just never have played most things--board games and Settlers are about it.

Post by: Fellfrosch on October 03, 2004, 04:40:19 PM
We should definitely do some kind of Halloween party, though it will have to be separate from our Skar party (dang! more parties!). I have a great halloween board game that everyone will enjoy, gamer or otherwise, though it only has six people max. We can mix it in with other things.

By the way, Stacer, I love your sig. You're a shimmering star in the forum firmament.

Halloween game/party sounds fun.

OK, Skar and I have discussed scheduling and we've determined the following. Unfortunately, Skar and I are easily the hardest locals to coordinate given that we have families and live far away from everyone else, so these dates are kind of funky.

Oct 15: Game Day/Night in Provo

Oct 23: Food Night at Buca in SLC

I regret that these plans don't include Halloween weekend, because that means they don't include Stacer, but Halloween weekend is pretty tough for both Skar and I. That doesn't stop you from having your own Provo party that weekend without us.

If necessary we could maybe do Buca on Friday the 29th. I'd really like to do the game night closer to Halloween but I can't think of any way to work it out. Suggestions are welcome; let me know what you guys think.

Sad.  :(

But I do still want to get together with whoever's in Provo one night that I'm there. I'll be dragging my old roommates along, too--cute single girls.  ;) Though I imagine Fiona's too tall for Tage. We don't really have a set schedule, so whatever night works best for you guys will probably work for us.

Okay,

Despite the fact that saying things like this tends to get me into serious trouble for some reason.

British accent=mega hot.  That's far more interesting than any height factors.

That said, it doesn't mean that Americans can't be hot too!  (I still remember the whole EUOL-doesn't-like-blonds fiasco of '03).

No no, you misunderstand, it's 5'11" which is already the inch I'm giving. 5'10" would be TWO inches. Two inches is a lot. And really, the inch before that inch, which is 6'0", is already 2.5".

Fuzzy: same height = good. Otherwise I would feel, as the Bible says, "unequally yoked." (Though I've never heard it applied in that way before...)

Height is definitely the first thing I look at. Followed by...something else.

But I definitely don't think I'm in the mood to drive 9 hours straight one way that week.

Then you should drive 18 hours round trip. That way you only have to go half as far at a time.

It's looking like I might be in Provo on Friday the 29th, though I promise nothing and I'll know more in a week or two. Maybe we could do something then.

So if we follow our plan we'll be having a game night/afternoon in Provo this weekend on the 16th. Who's interested? What games do you want to play? Where can we do it? Possibly the Cottontree? The HumPub? Tage and EUOL's house? Somebody else's house? Speak up.

Let me say that I want to play some Magic, maybe some Heroclix (with a scenario this time, rather than a random battle), and at least one board game--I'll be bringing three new Avalon Hill games, including a very cool haunted house game and a new version of Risk called Godstorm.

We also need to consider food.

Post by: Spriggan on October 12, 2004, 02:07:40 AM
16th is no good for the cottentree, there's a football game this weekend and I can tell you it'll be busy.

You're allwayse welcome at my place, we'll (read 42) will even clean the ferrits cage, he does every friday or saturday, so it won't be stinky.  And as you know, I don't think Tage or EUOL would have an objection to their place (I think EUOL said his place is allwayse open).

I'll be there, and if 42 isn't working he'll be there, I'm sure promethious will too.

I can bring HC or starwars minis.

*If* we decide to do some Magic games, are we going to be enforcing 100/3? It's been so long that I've needed to worry about that format that I just realized that I don't have a 100/3 deck made right now, but it would be fun to do it again. (Can have one done by sometime tonight easily though.)

We could also try out Emperor format too, if enough people want to try it.

Title: Re: october events
Post by: Spriggan on October 19, 2004, 03:24:16 AM
It's around 7200 if I remember correctly (where you there last year for EUOL's party?), not sure on the time though I think they were planning around 7-8pm.  Also i'm not sure how they're going to do the bill since Bucca is more a family meal type of place where you get something that feeds 4 or more people for $10-$12.  So they might just take the bill and divide it by how many come.
Title: Re: october events

Shall we say 5:00pm? Here's a map that I hope works: http://utah.citysearch.com/map?mode=geo&id=35707602&map_lat=406224&map_lon=-1118647&fid=&cslink=

The price isn't as bad as Tage says, but it is on the pricy side. Plan 10 or 15 dollars per person, and we'll just order a bunch of food and split the bill as evenly as possible. Bring cash if you can, because it makes things a million times easier.

Can we get an approximate head count by, say, tonight? I want to call and reserve a table (or many tables, as the case may be), so I need to tell them how many people to expect.

Oh, heavens-to-betsy yes, no kids. Tage has personally volunteered to babysit everyone's kids, so don't bring them.

I will, however, be at an early Halloween party. I'll take your kids, but I won't be held responsible for anything that happens to them at said party.

Obviously me.  My husband now MAY be going, but probably not. I'll let you know if plans change.

Hey Mustard, if I bring my copy of On Second Thought, would it annoy you to sign it?

I'll sign it. With actual mustard.

"Happy birthday Mom! I got you a copy of that book I was talking about!"

"Megan....Why is there mustard on it?"

"Oh.  That was the author's brother."

I would gladly sign it!

Have you read it yet?  I can't remember who has and who hasn't...

Yep, I have.

I used to have a picture of Fellfrosh's sock somewhere if he's eager to sign something in mustard.

Well, it looks like my lovely wife won't be joining us.  She's got the whooping cough, apparently, and is quarentined for five days.

Post by: Fellfrosch on October 21, 2004, 07:17:28 PM
We just got our results back, no whooping cough here. Hooray!

So far we've only got 7 people, but we haven't heard official confirmations from EUOL and many others. Is Izzy coming? Brenna? Any other random Provo-ites?
Title: Re: october events

I bet Izzy is not coming, since it would require coming  from California with a newborn.

lol.

I know EUOL and Kije are comeing.

And my friend Steve might come too, though he dosn't get off of work until after 5pm so he's not sure if he'd make it up in time.

If the dinner was tonight, I could go, but we already have plans with Mr. M and his wife (and MsFish) for tomorrow night. So, alas, I will not be there. Sorry!  I'd love to try some other time--it's been forever since I've had the chance to see Skar!

So we're down a Mustard and up a EUOL and a Kije (and, presumably, Kije's wife). That puts us at 9 people, or 10 if Steve shows up (whoever that is). Not the enormous Buca party we've had in the past, but a fine one nonetheless. I'm sure any extra stragglers can be accomodated as well.

Ufortunately, Kije will not be there (nor his wife.)  We are both currently in a production of Fiddler on the Roof involving a performance tomorrow night.
That is also the reason for my hellishly annoying beard.

I liked having a beard. At least, I did as soon as I learned to stop scratching it compulsively, thus irritating the skin beneath.

I too liked having a beard.  It itched after a week for another two weeks and then was just fun to have.

I once had a member of our AMF (the afghanis we were working with) tell me I had an Al Quaeda beard.  It was red, like some men from the more northerly part of the middle east, I kept it trimmed over my lips and ears and he thought I looked just like a member of Al Quaeda.  That was kind of wierd.

I didn't know you could have a beard if you were active in the military...  (although I imagine that shaving facilities in Afghanistan were unreliable).  I guess I was wrong.
Title: Re: october events
Post by: Skar on October 22, 2004, 07:17:55 PM
You're only allowed to have a beard in the active duty military if you are working with indigenous people who think that if you shave you are declaring your homosexual leanings.  Or if you've been in the field away from shaving facilities for so long that you grow one.  Thus it's mostly a Special Forces thing.

It was really fun having a beard on the few occasions that I was on the big base in Kandahar because all of the regular military guys think you're some ultra bad ass killer working directly for the CIA and give you wide clearance.  (Which in my case was only totally true part of the time;) )

Even though I won't be going tomorrow, I made your reservation.  6:00pm at the Fort Union Buca Di Beppo's tomorrow night.  The reservation is in the name of Dan Wells.

So, if you guys aren't all dinner-ed out after tonight, howsabout next week? I'll be around from Friday afternoon to early Monday morning, so any of the three nights is good, though of course if Sunday, we'd need to have it potluck at someone's house rather than out somewhere. Or we could have it potluck at someone's house anyway. I'm open to all ideas.

So far I'm still flexible on the night, so what works better for you guys?

I desperately want to be free on Friday, because that means I don't have to go to my Father-in-law's birthday party, but the odds of that are nil. So count me out altogether, unfortunately.

Okay, it's sounding like not too many people will be able to make dinner. How about lunch? And whoever's around at dinnertime, we can do dinner later (which so far is Brenna and 42--where shall we go, guys?). I'm going to be at Mama Chu's (Mexican) for lunch around 1:00-ish on Friday. I've heard they have a great lunch special. Anyone around at lunchtime that might want to meet then?

You know, I may actually be able to do lunch at Mama Chu's on Friday. We often go there on Fridays anyway, since that chicken chimi special is so amazing.

Okay, so we have so far at lunch: me, Fiona (old roommate), EUOL, Tage.

Anyone else? Fuzzy, you available at lunchtime?

I stopped paying attention for a while, and now I'm confused. The Halloween party sadly lost Fell when it went to a Friday, and now it seems to have morphed into a luncheon and a dinner to accomodate more people. I could make a dinner tomorrow. Were we planning on doing anything else afterward? I had mentally blocked out all of Friday evening for a party of some kind, myself.

Thai Chili Pepper (used to be Thai Chili Garden) at 6pm tomorrow, anyone who can make it. No real plan on what we'll do after. Kristy and I were going to go shopping at Old Navy if nothing else came to mind. But if there's something interesting to do, why, let's go for it. But it sounds like it'll be a small group.

The lunch is more of a "whoever's around, let's do lunch" thing. And anyone who wants to meet my British roommate.  ;)
