Movies and TV / Re: Great Westerns
« on: July 08, 2004, 02:05:35 PM »
If you are looking for old, true, gritty Westerns, there are three that are my all-time favorites:

Once Upon a Time in the West
The Wild Bunch
High Plains Drifter

They might be a bit rough for most tastes, but all are classics.  if you want something that has a more modern, Hollywood feel to it, The Quick And The Dead with Sharon Stone, Russel Crowe, Gene Hackman, and Leonardo DiCaprio was actually pretty entertaining as well.  Hope this helps.

Any Monty Python film is a catagory unto itself, but the best one is still "Life of Brian."

Some of my favorite films include:

Clockwork Orange
City of Lost Children
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Deathrace 2000
Star Wars Trilogy (the first one, not the current one)
Popeye
Hard Boiled
Hawk the Slayer
Chasing Papi
Conan the Barbarian
High Sierra
Angels with Dirty Faces
Rebel Without a Cause
Giant
African Queen
Casablanca
White Heat
Public Enemy
Fight Club
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Killer
A Better Tomorrow I-III
Lord of the Rings Trilogy
Suspiria
Clerks

At least that is my list today.  Tomorrow it may change.

He's not EXACTLY a bad guy; more a victim of circumstance.  The whole point of the character to begin with (in the comics at least) was to contrast the bullying, narrow-minded Jameson with his heroic, noble, self-sacrificing son.  I think it was supposed to make JJ Jameson realize his own flaws and try to be a better person, but luckily that never quite happened.

I really liked the Yoda fight, but the fact that he was CGI, I'm afraid, took a bit of the thrill away from it.

Hey, I still like Rocky Balboa vs. Apollo Creed.

In addition to all the ones that have already been stated, how can you forget the big fight between Achilles and Hector in Troy??

You know what I'd love to see (and I know I am going to be laughed right off the boards, so go ahead and do your worst)?  A live action version of Ralph Bakshi's Wizards.  With all the CGI they have now, plus all the great actors who can do their own stunts, it would be a lot of fun.  I just want to see one of those fat, two-legged horses ambling at top waddle from robot assassins.

Well, not the best EVER, but still very well done.  Easily one of the few superhero films that managed to stay nearly 100% true to it's background material.

Role-Playing Games / Re: So what is everybody playing?

Eberron does look cool.  My group was going to play it, but the problem was that everybody wanted to play a warforged.

Remind me to tell everybody how cool Lone Wolf is.  Psychic combat kicks!!

It should come as no surprise that I love Tolkien games.  I am also a huge fan of games that have a real feel for the pulp action stories.  Superheroics is also big with me, but it is really hard to do it right.

One genre that is always overlooked, yet one of my favorites, is humor.  Paranoia, Hunter Planet, Attack of the Humans, Supermegatopia, Hol, Ninja Burger, Kobolds Ate My Baby, Star Munchkin, and of course, Toon.  If you have never played any of the games on this list, you don't know what you are missing.  Humor is essential in ALL rpg's.  Far too many people just take the hobby waaaay too seriously.

I have it, and it is amazing; almost worth all the hype.  New feats, warforged, dragonmark clans, very magic-rich, cool art, great background.  What's not to like.  I am currently perusing the Lone Wolf RPG, but will get a chance to really get into Eberron soon.

Role-Playing Games / Re: Gear Krieg
« on: June 01, 2004, 12:54:22 AM »
If WWII is what you are looking for, Gear Krieg has several supplements out for the RPG, the first two being the Axis Sourcebook and the Allies Sourcebook.  There is also an African Campaign book (for thise wishing to match wits against the legendary Desert Fox, I'd expect), a Weird Science book, and a very detailed Heroes and Villains book (which is probably the best for getting the jist of what types of adversaries the players should be going up against).  Finally, there is the Gear Krieg Companion, which gives a smattering of a lot of different topics that might be of use to both game masters and players trying to set up a long-term campaign.  Hope this helps.
