Fellfrosch is hittin' the big time...maybe
« on: June 29, 2004, 12:45:29 AM »
I didn't want to say anything in the early stages, because it was still pretty distant and intangible, but I'm applying for a job with Wizards of the Coast to be a creative writer: 60% Magic, 40% new games. I think it's okay to mention now, however, because I just found out that I'm in the top 25 people being considered: that's a little more tangible to my thinking, and I'm all giddy with the possibilities. The job essentially has three parts: write names for Magic cards, write flavor text for Magic cards, and make up new worlds for Magic to take place in; you also do similar things for other games that WotC makes. Sitting around all day and coming up with crazy new worlds and characters and stories? |That's my dream job.

So, as one of the top 25 (I'll never get tired of saying that), I have one week to show off my skills with a creative exercise: I have to write five names each and three flavor texts each for ten different magic cards. That's a lot of work to cram into my busy nights and lunch breaks, but I'm as excited as a person is legally allowed to be. Wish me luck.

Yes, it's full-time, and would require a move to Washington. It's worth it to me though, pending minor details such as pay (I do, after all, have to feed my family).

That is so cool.

You will, of course, act as a mole to supply unique and juicy informational tidbits to TWG, correct?

Well if he does get it we loose free stuff from Wizards, we might be able to get away with switching who gets what from Fell to someone esle.  But Wizards might not want to send free things to a site owned and ran by an employ of theirs.  Also we'd have to put a disclamier on our site about that.

yes, I therefore forbid you to get this job, Fell. Or at least, if you do, straight out what I keep getting.

If I get this job I will probably just turn over TWG to other people (namely, you). I'd still contribute, but I don't think they'd want me to run it, and I don't think I'd have the time.

I still say you should have applied for that copyeditor job at Blizzard, that way I'd have someone to play WoW with.

They said no on the creative writer, but they're still interested in me as an RPG editor. I'll send their test back tomorrow and then it's three more weeks (I assume) of waiting.
