i think the answer would be more obvious if we knew more about Hoid's motivations. what is he doing with all of these shards anyway?

we'll say we both found him  :) though i would like some kind of confirmation before we celebrate. Ookla?
so now the question is, why was he shaking so "oddly"? was he just not used to the climate? is all this planet hopping, shard searching awesomeness having some kind of an effect on his body? was he just cold?

well brandon says that he makes an actual appearance and that one of the characters notices something odd about him but moves on quickly. the only other refugees specifically mentioned in the scene are the Terrisman who gives the old man and elend tea and the small group of terris soldiers. hoid could be one of these, though i still think it is the old man. he's the only one with a speaking part and despite this, is left without a given name.

i believe it is the word for "shard magic" in general, not a specific shard

so having read what little wilson posted of brandon talking about Hoid in WoA I did another search and believe Hoid to be the old terrisman in the refugee camp that tells elend about the inquisitors attacking Terris. first off he's telling a story, Hoid's trademark. this would also fit for him being in diguise. believing the Well to be in Terris, Hoid diguises himself as a terrisman attempting to infiltrate the society and search for clues to its whereabouts. since brandon said hoid learned that the well was in luthadel after vin made the connection and only because of overhearing something a known character says, this is the only possible scene for hoid to be in because it is the only scene where Elend mentions the Well after Vin leaves and before he reaches Luthadel. the only other character with a speaking part in the scene besides Elend and Spook is the old man.  ;D ;D ;D

so i pulled out WoA and found that Sazed uses zinc twice during his fight with Marsh. the first time he uses it he plots out the trajectory of the flying lamp and is able to use it against Marsh. but i'd like to point out the second time along with words that accompany each usage, "Sazed's thoughts sped up" and then it says that he became more aware of his situation. this points me toward believing he was thinking things through at a faster speed than normal and not simply plotting trajectories faster, which the brain does in a split second anyway.

has anyone else read aether of night? where would Raeth fit into this battle i wonder...

and sortitus, just because they were priests doesn't mean they auotmatically had more than one breath. i'm pretty sure llarimar only has one

thank you czanos for the mental speed citing. i'm suprised that brandon didn't use it more as it can be kind of like a feruchemist's atium. most likely because it is difficult to store. this split second feruchemical burst sounds like an instant kill to me.

true true true. although the process of creating koloss would require live captures. again i think they are even. with both sides, harvesting the enemy requires killing in a specific way.

lifeless koloss... now that is a tide turner. assuming killing the koloss didn't damage the body to the point where it could no longer fuction, turning the enemy's dead into your own soldiers is strategic genius.

how else would it work?
and true it is a gamble. but i figure if you can't win when u think as fast as a supercomputer, move faster than the eye can track,  and have the strength of... a lot, you don't deserve to. and this is a one on one competition...

i think we may be underestimating feruchemy. what would happen if a feruchemist squeezed ALL their reserves (useful ones) out in a single second. speed, strength, weight, senses, and the almost always forgotten mental speed. essentially time would slow down to almost stopping for that feruchemist. what's easier than beating a frozen opponent?

while it does indeed take more men to create koloss than lifeless, one could argue that the "superhuman factor" makes it worth it. koloss are powerhouses that have incredible strength and resistance to pain or injury. i say the lifeless remain even with koloss

i voted we postpone further judgement on an elantrian's fighting potential until the elantris sequel. hopefully we'll get more experience with AonDor then. ugh that'll be quite a while huh?
maybe i should start pulling for sazed and feruchemy to beat everyone. push the argument in a new direction...

and i apologize, little wilson. i didn't me to offend
