Does anyone else just think this film looks just plain awful?
-
Ya. Actualy several articles I've read are calling it the next "Gili", or at lease Berry's "Gili". And after reading over the basic plot and movie outline I have to agree.
-
Gigli, though in this case we'll forgive any misspellings.
I think this will be only for those people who wish to pay $6 to see Halle Berry kick butt in a leather suit.
-
what's wrong with that?
-
Have you seen the leather suit? It doesn't look too good.
-
No it doesn't. I don't know how they did it, but they managed to greatly decrease Berry's hotness.
-
Tage and I saw the trailer before Van Helsing tonight. After it was finished, he leaned over to me and said "One of the worst movie ideas EVER."
That pretty much sums it up.
-
The original idea was probably "Halle Berry in a tight leather suit," which isn't all that terrible of an idea. The actual exectution of the idea was pretty bad though.
-
If Michelle Pfeiffer were dead, she'd be rolling in her grave.
-
not that I cared all that much for Pfeiffer's performance. I mean she tried to play Catwoman like De Vito was playing hte Penguin. And that's just.... not right.
-
Okay, let's try again:
If Julie Newmar were dead, she'd be rolling in her grave.
-
If i exhume a corpse and roll around in the grave is that good enough?
-
as long as you leave it like that. If you were to exhume the corpse and roll around WITH it, well...that's just not right.
-
I've still not seen a trailer, though the costume doesn't bother me all that much.
On the other hand, some web cartoonists disagree with me, such as Tim Buckley (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/images/comics/20040618.jpg) and Aeire (http://www.queenofwands.net/comics/20040618.gif).

While i was in the theatre watching Troy my friends and i saw the trailer for Catwoman. Immediatley as it began another man from the crowd said in an obviously overhearable voice, "She should fire her hiring agent." Needless to say, we all cracked up until the movie started. It was funnier if you were there, i'm aware what i quoted wasnt exactly funny, nor remotely funny.

It is, however, true.
-
Just saw the trailer for this reciently. Looks like she has more than one leather suit. Personally, I can't think of a story that has Catwoman as the hero that would be movie worthy.
-
oh, there've been several Catwoman stories in the comics. However, why they think that people who don't read comics and get their ideas about Batman characters from the 60's farce can write a catwoman story....
She's too tied up in Batman. While she often has stories without him, and she's the least insane of his enemies, she's far too tied up with the Batman character to be able to make an origin and movie that completely writes out batman.
Just my opinion.
-
I thought that's what the new comic line has been doing SE. The one where she was originaly a prostitute and wears the goggles.
-
eh. Possibly. I haven't read her title in a long while. She's just not worked for me ever without the Batman baggage

Amen.
-
I liked it. The movie wasn't that bad.

How long can Catwoman keep up the 0% streak? We'll have to wait and see....

Here's a funny snippet from Eric Snider's review:
"Catwoman," based on the DC Comic character who originated in the Batman universe, is an absurd movie about a skittish woman named Patience Phillips (Halle Berry) who, after falling to her death in a river, is resurrected by a squad of mystic cats and subsequently has all the powers of a cat. For example, she is suddenly very good at basketball -- you know, the way cats are -- and she can climb up walls and stick to them -- you know, the way cats do.
-
can she mentally dominate you so you are forced to do her sexy, sexy will?
-
Do you mean me personally?
-
uhm... sure, I guess. just in general though.
-
I saw Catwoman and it was truly awesome! Great characters, in-depth storyline, true-to-life motivations, and realistic relationships!!
Hell, I'm just kidding. The movie was so bad that even Jennifer Lopez is laughing at it. I only went to see the trailer for the new Batman film. Halle Berry needs to go back to what she does best, namely flashing her breasts in a tawdry attempt to bolster her flagging career.
-
Speaking of the batman film, here are some pics of the new batman suit and such, and thank fuly no nipples are visible

Or if you want to just see the best pic, http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v345/batmanonfilm/beginsbatmanpic2.jpg
Morgin Freeman, Gary Oldman and Michal Cain all in it. WB would realy have to screw up majorly to ruin this film. And I'm hopeing they dont.
-
I'm not sure I like the look of him in that suit. There's something... just not right. Maybe it's the nose. I dunno.
But yeah, with the actor's lined up, acting shouldn't be a problem. Let's hope WB *finally* gets a decent director and writer for a superhero movie.
-
The movie is almost finished filming. It comes out next Spring. The Writer/director are the same guys who did all the Blade movies.
-
I suppose it could be passable then.
Notice this: WB is Time-Warner right? Who also own DC comics (this is why Superman/Batman adventures and Batman Beyond are Kids WB cartoons). So this is why DC Superhero movies are all made by WB. This, I suspect is why they have been so bad in the past. In Marvel's case, it's not owned by a media giant, so there's actual competition for their titles. That's why Blade and Spider-Man and X-Men and Hulk are made by different companies (New Line, Sony/Columbia, Fox, and Universal, respectively) and turned out so well. Of course, you still get a few duds like Daredevil (but come on, it was at LEAST as good as Batman 2), but on the whole competition has been good for Marvel. But the last several DC movies like Catwoman, Batman Forever, and Steel (anyone remember Steel? Yeah, I thought so) have been crappers.
I realize there's a lot left unexplained by this theory, and it's just in progress, but I think I see a connection. AOL KILLS EVERYTHING IT TOUCHES! (no, not that, AOL came in AFTER the crappy movies come out).
-
Is this suppose to be a younger Batman? Cause when I see Bale, I still see a young newspaper-selling kid who just wants to be loved.
That and Sgt. Gordon also looks younger than the other movies.
-
Yes this is a younger batman, it's called Batman Begins. And as you can probaly derive from that title its about Bruce Wayne becomeing batman. The villians are Scarecrow and Rash al Ghoul.
Your argument about WB keeping everything inhouse has a lot of merits, but I'm not going to completly dismiss they're ability to make a good superhero movie. They did make the first 3 Superman and the first 2 batman movies. Also DC has had a lot more success then marvel when it comes to the Animation end of things. But WB has Bruce Timm and marvel dosen't.
Oh, and SE don't insult Batman 2. That was the best one. Daredevil was probaly as good as batman 3.
-
Hmmm, so Alfred never really ages eh?
-
Man, Gary Oldman as Gordon looks awesome. But I suppose that's to be expected from Oldman by now.
-
I'm sorry. Batman 2 was ... passable. Brillaint compared to later installments in the series. we can quibble over whethter DD was better or worse, but as mediocre as it was as well, it blew Batman Forever out of the water.
As for WB being CAPABLE of a good movie, I think the CAN, sure. But WILL they? I dunno. I think their DC comics movie making decisions have been "hey, let's make one. you, over there, go direct a movie." If they stop to try and do a decent job, they can pull it off. but I'm not convinced they will do that very often.
ANd, incidentally, WB distributed, but did not produce Superman or Superman III. They did do Superman II and IV, but as we all know, both III and IV were terrible movies. which means on their established superhero movie production record, they are at best 3 out of 8 (counting the first two batman movies as good). Not exactly good odds.
