Blood and Marrow Donation
« on: April 28, 2005, 05:27:15 PM »
used to donate blood a couple times a year.  However, due to my medical history, I am no longer eligable to donate
At the same time, I have a better understanding of how important those donations are.
My Birthday is May 22.
As a gift, I am asking any who are able, to register with the NMDP for possible Bone marrow donation
http://www.marrow.org/cgi-bin/NETWORK/center.pl?ctr_typ=DC&state=Virginia&st_abbr=VA
Is a list of donation centres, but your doctor can test as well.

Or,
Just donate Blood, any local hospital has a schedule when you can come in and donate... And you get free cookies!

So, Thats what I am asking for for my B-Day, Blood and Marrow

Yeah, I wish I was allowed to donate blood. I figure I'm not though, given I'm kinda anemic.

I haven't tried giving blood since last year, when the nurse couldn't find my vein. After she did finally find it, the needle came out and got air in it and she wasn't allowed to try again. So I had a big bruise but couldn't go home with the satisfaction of having actually donated. This inability to find a vein has happened every time I've tried to donate recently, so even when I successfully donate, I end up dizzy or with a really painful experience while they dig for the vein. I'm not sure why the blood bank has such a time with it--when I go to the dr's office for whatever blood tests, they never have a problem with it.

Once I get settled in my new job, though, I'm going to have to try again. I like to donate--it wasn't such a nightmare experience at BYU, for example.

I donated blood last month, and apparently Red Cross comes to my  job every 62 days or whatever for specifically that purpose, so I think I'll continue to just donate at work until I'm not able to.

I'll donate and you can drink as much as you want.

Actually, I wonder if I can. I used to frequently. I did plasma too (for cash!) But now I'm on medication. I guess I could ask.

I would, but I'm underage.
Also I might have an iron deficiency.

Your birthday is the day before mine!! You're the closest yet. That's really cool.

Cooler is that my bf's birthday is 4 days before mine. My ex's was 3 days after.
Obviously if someone appears with the *same* birthday, I'm gonna marry 'em.
